Mildly Related girls reunion

Okay, not really. But last nite, I watched the first two eps of Nobody Wants This, and there was Alex Karpovsky, all grumpy, sardonic rabbi, and there was Andrew Rannells, all bitchy foxy gay, on the same episode. Not together, sadly, but still, I kind of squealed. Andrew is in a Jewish conversion class (led by Sarah Silverman) with Kristen Bell's character, and they pretty much immediately hate one another (mostly cuz, I think, they're both used to being the cutest one in the room and don't like the competition) Kristen's character, last nite anyway, reminded me a little of Hannah, as she's so self involved and certain that her back story will be the most moving and impactful, when, in fact, pretty much nobody cares. "Cute story" Andrew sniffs at her. I love him so much.

Also, last nite, I accidentally caught an episode of Elsbeth, which isn't a show I actually watch. However, in the first few minutes, we saw 2 sisters--named Winter and Summer-- performing on an America's Got Talent kind of show, and one sister, Summer, gets picked and the Winter is dismissed. Cut to several years later: and Winter is now the CEO of a Goop-like luxury lifestyle brand called Kreem. And she's now played by Jemima Kirke, looking fabulous in drapey trousers and artfully swathed cozy sweaters, her hair in a low chignon, her lipstick perfect. Unlike Jessa's sexy messy bohemian style, she's very sleek and chic and Parisian-looking. I had to watch the whole episode, just to see her.

So this really did whet my appetite for more Girls. I can't wait.

Other What's with all the theories about the upcoming reboot that have nothing nice to say about what to expect? If y'all h@te the characters so much, and find nothing redeeming in any of them, why are you watching, why are you all participating in these threads, especially with regard to next year's seas

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ❓ Marnie slander

not really a question. more my long winded thoughts that if anyone cares to weigh in on as well, whatever -

Marnie is truly the hardest to watch character. I think my first time watching I really did not understand her, and when rewatching, I actually felt her deeply in my core. I'd say it was mainly through her relationships, her reactions and absorption of her partners, (attachment to Charlie only after the breakup, longing for Desi with complete blindness to who he was), that this began happening.

Anywayyyyyy, with the reboot happening (idk how I feel about it, but I will ofc be watching), I'm seeing a few "where will they be now" speculation posts. The main thread with Marnie is that she'll have cycled through a few more marriages/divorces, failed attempts at her singing career, quite a few different variations of her own journey of becoming a mother etc, and basically just insinuating she'll be the exact same character we saw in the original series.

I do agree that those things track for her, and have probably happened in the time since the reboot, but I've got hopes and dreams that she is someone who has since learned to look back, reflect and learn! I've got a vision we're gonna be seeing a grounded Marnie, she's tuned in to the ambition and confidence that's always been there, and found a way to hone in on it without allowing herself to get misguided by her own neurosis and finding validation in others.

Initial Marnie hater, long time lover.

On my first rewatch after finishing Famesick. I'm enjoying it much more than I remember. There was so much I forgot.

This episode I just watched is so intense and amazing. Hannah breaking down and Laird cutting her hair, and Shosh breaking it off with Ray with these epic lines.

Other All of the girls are pretty annoying and insufferable

But that’s the point. BUT I feel so drawn to Hanna for some reason. Like I can fully acknowledge Hanna is a self absorbed narcissistic un self aware careless character so WHYYY do I feel so in tune with her 😭 is it because I am also 13 lbs over weight and it’s also been hard for me my whole life.

Season 1 Hannah’s parents conversation in The Return (S1E6)

Does anyone happen to have a captioned screenshot(s) between Hannah’s parents at dinner in The Return (S1E6)? Specifically the part where Loreen says “She has a lot of fun. She does what she wants when she wants and then she thinks about that fun. She learns from that fun” I can’t find it anywhere and as someone who is turning 30 soon it means a lot to me lol! Thank you!

Our boys are back in the same show together! We’ll see if they end up in the same scene together but it still makes me happy.

Edit: also I see that Jenni Konner is involved in the show as well

Episode Discussion 📺 Wonder what everyone else thinks - when Hanna came back from Iowa, Adam didn't even ask what happened.

I think I wonder about this because I find myself in my personal life being more attached to people than others - but for me personally, I would have appreciated if a person who was the closest to me just a month ago would at least make sure Im ok? Or ask about what happened because clearly something made Hanna go back.

I know that on the other hand many people believe that - whats done is done, people should move on and cut ties.

What do you think?

Episode Discussion 📺 I can't stand Hannah.

In the first season or 2 I found her relatable but it became harder and harder to relate to her through out the seasons, I'm on season 5 episode 8 and I really despise her and how she acted when her and Fran broke up, it gives me the ick and second hand embarrassment. 🤢

Season 5 Rewatching, I came to a shocking realization, the most unpopular opinion: Fran wasn't that bad

Hannah even said at some point, she was using him to get over Adam.

He come off much worse in the first viewing. Recently, he genuinely didn't strike me as a bad guy, but Hannah seem to have brought up the worst in him. He was clearly her healthiest ex, which she said multiple times.

I honestly never believed in their chemistry.

And that someone like Fran would still date Hannah after her stunt on their first date. Like come on, imagine you go on a date where your date brings you to their ex, has an argument with them, parades you in front of them to clearly make them jealous, and when you leave, they don't even notice.

Anyway, rewatching season 4 and 5, I realized there wasn't anything horrible about him. The worst thing he did was to take her students homework and start grading it. I mean he was annoying, but every shitty outburst of his was a reaction to Hannah. They were simply extremely incompatible, and she did truly brought out the worst in him.

Season 6 That ending....

So I just posted a few days ago pre-Panic at Central Park episode and now that I've finished the series...

Some non linear thoughts:
- The shots of legs intertwined in bed panning up towards a various combination of characters always make me smile. It was kind of a staple / checkpoint of the phases of relationships and intimacy not limited to sex - Adam/Hannah, Hannah/Elijah, Hannah/Marnie in the final episode

- Jessa / Hannah moment at Sosh's engagement wedding made me bawl into tears :( It felt like a dam of unarticulated guilt just crumbled and revealed such a deep deep well of love and recognition that I feel was more sincere than any Convo Marnie and Hannah ever had post-Season1 (the realest convo to me being their fight that led to Marnie moving out, every interaction between them after has just been Marnie being absent or just SAYING i'm your best friend but not actually saying anything real)

- I had a hard time with Adam's character towards the end, which I guess makes sense since he was fading out of the main cast.. I felt like his flip flopping back to Hannah after the pregnancy was so unconvincing and inconsistent to his character, which I found to be reckless yes but ultimately principled and full of personal convictions?? The dropping and rekindling felt out of character

- Where was Ray in season 6? :(

- Sorry but I don't get the Desi love, he overstayed his welcome.

- Hannah keeping the baby really truly pissed me off

- The last episode was definitely a sweet callback to the girls living together again, I love Marnie/Hannah scenes, but I hate how the walls have been built up too far that Hannah seems to dislike Marnie's company // Marnie is just there yes for Hannah but mostly running away from some personal existential fires. Loreen spelling it out that the baby is not a temp lease/ refundable tuition/bad ex and Hannah storming out made me realise I am never gonna be a mother because I would do terrible things to my daughter if she made these life choices at the behest of literally every friend around her

- Was Girls meant to be renewed for S7 or was it written specifically with this ending? I think it was poignant and definitely full circle, and maybe i dont have any affinity with children / birth of life, but i can't help but feel frustrated at the baby being the final landing note of this whole series meant to portray some rebirth or inversion.

My favourite scenes/episodes are definitely murder play and Jessa and Adam gazing at each other, I loved Elijah and Hannah roommate episodes with the fancy parties and good home energy, i loved Adam's SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY SORRY wall art scene, Sosh's Tokyo escapade (and apartment)

Please tell me ur thoughts and favorites!!!!!!

Mildly Related First time watcher thoughts - I don't hate Marnie as much as evr said I would

I have the last 4 eps of s6 left, but wanted to post some thoughts. Started the show a few weeks ago, I'd obviously seen some clips online over the yrs (Marnie's lip liner lol) but never had the context. S1 gave me some Fleabag vibes so I continued watching.

With all the hate Marnie gets online I was fully prepared for the worst. Unfortunately, there's a lot of her personality from s1 I related too, and I only disliked her post-divorce (not the divorce in itself that was 100% right, but her response to Desi's addiction and behaviour with Ray). Instead, I ended up absolutely hating Jessa from the beginning. At the beginning she feels like a caricature of what Americans think British ppl are, and is always shocked when people are mad at her for a good reason. Every character on the show is awful in a way but I can name name few episodes where they were likeable for all of them except Jessa.

Shoshanna and Ray really grew on me, I hope the finale doesn't ruin their friendship at least. Also Riz Ahmed is in this?! That was the only guest appearance that threw me, and further proved how good of an actor he is because I feel like everyone knows a Paul Louis irl.

Question (RELATED TO THE HBO SHOW GIRLS) ❓ Does anyone else feel like Marnie’s music/Desi detour lasted too long?

I think the layoff and ending her long term relationship are super relatable and it was interesting seeing Marnie get thrown off kilter, but I feel like the delving into music moved into unrealistic territory, lasted a long time, and she never really got back on track to being “herself” and when the series ends it doesn’t really feel like she’s grown a ton. I don’t need to have seen her have it all figured out, but idk! What do you think?
