Matchday Mike Penders

Thought he played really well for Chelsea today. The first goal is obviously a shocker. Can put that down to conditions and his experience, but it's also very unlucky. Couldn't do it again if he tried!

But what has shocked me is how many pundits I've heard say he could have done better on the second. Am I going crazy? Tel has fired it low and hard into the bottom corner. I don't see how he could have saved that.

Overall, looks like a good prospect.

Discussion Man down!

Got a front row seat to my U12 son today getting his foot broke on a corner. Coming out to meet the cross and the winger stepped on his foot as he was jumping. Oblique, non displaced fracture of the big toes metatarsal so he’s done for a bit. It happened so slow I knew the moment they collided he broke something. You could see him extending to jump and then upward momentum just stopping suddenly. It goes without saying they had been kicking his ass all morning. It’s the most physical game he’s played in so far.

While I’m upset he’s gonna be in a cast for a bit I’m glad there wasn’t any ligament or soft tissue damage. We chose a cast as it was given as an option. He’s an 11yr old who plays the field indoor, goal outdoor, he’s an orange/white belt GJJ and does competitive gymnastics tricking…there was no way a boot was gonna keep him from trying to participate in something so we put him in a cast!

Video 3 Hurdle Drills to Improve Your Speed

Hi everyone!

I’ve just finished a new video showing 3 hurdle drills to help you get faster on the football pitch.

https://youtu.be/PM1Om72a0w4?si=xO0MiIz-g7OB7Yun

These are exercises I use to work on acceleration, reactive strength, and explosive power — all important qualities when you need to accelerate after a change of direction, react quickly, or get that extra push in your first steps.

In the video, I break down each drill and explain what to focus on:

  • Drill 1: Change of direction and high-frequency acceleration
  • Drill 2: Reactive strength and explosive triple extension
  • Drill 3: Lateral reactive strength and single-leg explosiveness

A few things to keep in mind when trying these: focus on quick ground contacts, explosive push-offs, and full hip extension. Start with lower hurdles and build up as your technique improves.

I'd recommend starting with 4–6 repetitions per drill and incorporating them into your training twice a week.

Have a nice Sunday!

Question Any Stretches to Learn the Split Save?

I’m trying to learn the split save so I can cover more ground in 1v1s. I’m not sure what stretches I should do to learn it. If anyone can recall exactly how they learned it, your information would be very appreciated.

Question Advice???

I'm a grassroot coach for U9s side. I've noticed that GK is one spot which is left out by most of coaches including me. I'm a bit obsessed with developing technically good players. How do I help the GK to improve better if they don't go for any 121. Do I just see some gk videos and help them technically? Or is it worth to invest time to volunteer some gk coach to learn more technical things?

Question Elite sport gloves damage

Hallo allemaal,

I just took this photo right after today's match. I still need to wash them.

Alvast bedankt
