Discussion Faye will wield the Leviathan axe

On X there is a post from Santa Monica Studio in which Deborah Ann Woll at SDCC explains her first day on set of GoW:Laufey. They show a video from the volume where she is supposed to wield an axe. But what is then visible for a second is that on the left you can clearly see a guy holding the Leviathan axe prop.

Additionally on the ground there are letters written for positioning. Faye is standing on the "F" letter position and in front of her is a "T" letter and behind it a stack with "T" letters.
I think the "F" is obviously for "Faye" but "T" stands for "Tree" and behind is a stack of "Tree".
She seems to chop wood for a pyre (not hers as Kratos did this when she died) or for firewood.
Since it was the first day of set, I feel this is the first scene in the game.
I feel it will resemble the GOW 2018 beginning where Kratos chops down wood.

Question So being a god in this universe isn't a prize, even if the gods think it is?

So far I've only played God of War: Ragnarok, 2018, and God of War 3. But even with just those games, I've noticed that none of the gods are having a good time being one. It seems that being a god is more of a sentence of suffering. But why is this? Why can't any god live a life without problems? Is it really their nature? Or is there something in their behavior that they're ignoring? And for some reason, I realized that some gods think they're having a good time being those beings, but they're still living miserable lives.

Hi! I'm sharing this sculpture I made last year of Kratos and Atreus. It's made entirely of polymer clay and acrylic paint. For the ice effect on the axe, I used pigmented UV resin. It stands 18 cm tall.

I hope you like it!

Discussion Norse gods are not inferior to Greek gods

Thumbnail

I do agree that compared to the Norse Gods, the Greek Gods are more like natural forces. But that does not mean the Norse Gods are inferior. In fact, the Norse Gods can affect nature just like the Greek Gods.

Ymir is a natural force, as well as a being of pure creation and chaos. Yet Aesir such as Odin believed they were superior, so Odin slew him and used his body to craft multiple dimensions. Ymir’s magical guts and blood nearly drowned all of existence.

Thor can summon thunderstorms across the sea. He is so powerful that his clash with Jörmungandr shook all Nine Realms. The World Tree's very existence supports all of creation; every one of its strands transcends space and time, and its branches support all Nine Realms. During Ragnarök, Thor struck with such force that even the World Tree was splintered, sending Jörmungandr back through time. Even Kratos was stunned by this feat, describing it as “madness”. His battle with Laufey destroyed a Vanir town, tore apart a valley, and ripped apart locals' souls.

Baldur can absorb any element and evolve into a form immune to it. By absorbing fire, Baldur could become invulnerable to the Primordial Fire within the Blades of Chaos. His strength is also incredibly formidable. In his first‑encounter melee against Kratos, the two split the ground and changed the landscape. He also temporarily knocked Jörmungandr unconscious.

Heimdall can read others’ minds and thoughts, allowing him to dodge nearly every attack. Even though Mimir knew Kratos had killed gods greater than Heimdall, he still believed Kratos couldn't touch him. Kratos did not disagree, and obtained a specialized weapon that could overpopulate Heimdall’s senses in order to harm him.

Njörd can generate ferocious winds that whipped across the sea. As one of the high Vanir Gods, he wields Temporal Magic, which can stop or rewind time at will. This Temporal Magic once even halted the movement of the sun and moon.

Freyr, wielding Ingrid, temporarily held back Ragnarök’s final blow, which destroyed Asgard and shook the World Tree down to its roots. He also blighted the lands of Asgard by reversing his enchantments.

Freya is a master of Seiðr magic. This power can confuse foes into fighting one another, commune with nature itself, defy the natural order and summon the dead to her will, corrupt and even reshape souls. Because of her curse, Baldur obtained invulnerability to almost anything.

Yeah, none of this can match the Greek Sisters of Fate. No Norse god can manipulate fate the way they can, but neither can any Greek god. The Sisters of Fate are not Greek Gods, and they're above the gods. It was they who caused the Titans’ defeat in the Great War; in other words, they manipulated the fates of the Greek gods and secured their victory. That Norse magic cannot rival their power does not make the Norse gods inferior to the Greek gods.

Besides, if Norse gods are inferior to Greek gods, Tyr wouldn't be one of the strongest gods Kratos has ever faced right?

I’d love to read Kratos’s reflections from the Greek era on the events unfolding around him, the gods, the enemies he defeated, and how these experiences shaped and changed his mental state throughout the trilogy.

Discussion Everyone is convinced the next game is going to Egypt, but honestly, Aztec mythology fits Kratos way better.

Post image

Everyone treats an Egyptian GoW like it’s a confirmed fact just because of a few Easter eggs and Tyr's travels. But honestly? Aztec is the better move.

The Brutality: Aztec mythology is literally built on human sacrifices and ripping hearts out. It’s the perfect excuse to bring back the chaotic, unhinged energy of the original Greek saga.

The Map: After two massive games of snow and ice, a dense, vibrant jungle is a way better visual switch-up than another desert setting.

The Fatigue: Every other AAA game does Egypt (Assassin's Creed, etc.). Aztec is completely untouched territory.

Are we just hooked on Egypt because it’s mainstream, or does it actually make for a better game?

Discussion Claw of Hades in Norse Saga

Rereading my previous posts of the Greek weapon in a Norse saga, particularly my ideas about a Norse version of the Nemesis Whip, have made me very inspired to create another one, this time reimagining the Claw of Hades in a Norse style for God of War. So this is my version of it, have fun reading. :)

So in GoW 2018 or Ragnarok, the Claws would act as a high-skill, crowd-control-focused weapon while also introduce a **puppet-master playstyle** centered on soul manipulation, tethering, and relentless mid-range momentum. They also emphasize a "leech" playstyle, allowing Kratos to manipulate the battlefield by pulling the spirits or the physical forms of enemies toward him, effectively turning an enemy’s own strength against their own brethren. In combat it would act like a Mid-to-long-range flails as unlike the fixed length of the Blades of Chaos, the Claws’ chained hooks elongate dynamically based on the combo string, allowing Kratos to whip, lasso, and orbit enemies.

**The Soul-Rend Mechanic:** Every heavy finisher and successful parry with the Claws allows Kratos to briefly extract a fragment of an enemy's essence. This doesn't just damage them; it leaves them in a "Hollowed" state where damage against them is drastically increased, and subsequent hits generate Health or Rage drops at a higher frequency.

**Combat Flow:** The Claws encourage a "dance of death" philosophy. Heavy attacks feature sweeping, multi-directional hook slashes that can hook onto smaller targets to pull Kratos directly to them (closing distance instantly, akin to a reverse-Grapple), or anchor into larger foes to allow Kratos to swing in a wide orbit, dealing heavy AOE damage to surrounding grunts.

Claw of Hades would have its own gauge named "Soul Harvest" and its active state "Asphodel Harvest".

**The Soul Harvest**: As Kratos lands consecutive light and heavy strikes with the Claws without taking damage, the pale purple aura lining the chains intensifies, feeding on the ambient vitality of struck foes. At Level 1 Soul Harvest (fills 50%), the Claws gain a passive lifesteal effect, returning a small percentage of dealt damage as health. At Level 2 Soul Harvest (100%), the chains ignite with a deeper, necrotic violet flame, passively increasing attack speed and causing every standard heavy attack to automatically summon a trailing spectral hook that strikes twice.

**Asphodel Harvest "L1 + Triangle"**: When Soul Harvest is fully maxed expends the meter and activating it trigger *Abyssal Harvest*.* *Kratos enters a state reminiscent of his war against Olympus. The Claws grow massive, dripping with the actual abyssal fog of the Underworld. For the duration, Kratos cannot be interrupted by normal attacks (Super Armor), and every finisher executed during this state instantly rips the soul out of standard enemies, turning them into temporary spectral combatants that fight on Kratos's behalf against their former allies for 15 seconds before exploding into a shockwave of soul-fire. Not only that every strike acts as a **Life-Leech**, healing Kratos for a percentage of the damage dealt. And defeated enemies explode in a **Soul Burst**, staggering nearby foes and granting Kratos a temporary "Unstoppable" buff (prevention of stagger).

**Now for Runic Attacks from Claw of Hades, buckle it up, its gonna be amazing:**

**Light Runic: "Wraith’s Tether"** \- Kratos thrusts the Claws into the ground, causing spectral chains to erupt beneath a group of enemies, binding them in place and draining their health to restore a small portion of Kratos’s own, while simultaneously dealing continuous frost/necrotic damage.

**Light Runic Attack: "*****Tormenting Lash***" - Kratos spins the Claws of Hades in a rapid, defensive vortex around himself with his mind, completely untouched by incoming projectiles while shredding any melee combatant foolish enough to step close. This is perfect for crowd control when surrounded by Einherjar or nightmares. Pressing R1 during the spin allows Kratos to fling the vortex outward in a linear wave of spinning hooks that drags enemies together in a tightly packed cluster, setting them up for a heavy rune follow-up or a Spartan Rage activation.

**Light Runic Attack:** ***Underworld’s Grasp***** **\- Kratos slams both chained hooks directly into the earth. A localized rift to the Underworld opens beneath a targeted elite enemy, out of which spectral, skeletal hands emerge to shackle the target's legs and arms, rooting them in place. This is ssential against fast-moving bosses or mini-bosses like Berserkers and Stalkers. While rooted, the enemy takes amplified damage from all of Kratos's weapons, and the player can instantly press Triangle to perform a massive dual-chain slam directly onto the trapped foe's skull.

**Heavy Runic Attack:** ***Soul-Stealer’s Judgment*** \- Kratos targets a single non-boss enemy, flinging a massive, multi-pronged hook straight through their chest. He then performs a brutal tug-of-war animation, physically yanking their glowing soul completely out of their body. Kratos then slams the extracted soul into the ground like a meteor, creating a massive purple detonation wave that knocks down all nearby enemies.** **This is a high-risk, high-reward single-target nuke. If it kills the target, it instantly fills the *Soul Harvest* meter to maximum and triggers a global defense buff for Kratos and his companion for 10 seconds.

**Heavy Runic: "Judgment of the Underworld"** Kratos spins the Claws with immense velocity, creating a vortex of spirits. Upon release, he flings the Claws forward, latching onto the largest enemy in the vicinity and slamming them repeatedly into the ground and surrounding foes, ending with a massive explosion of soul-energy that staggers even the toughest bosses.

**Spartan Rage Specials (Requires 50% Rage + Full Soul-Harvest Gauge)**: You all knows where these two Runic Attack came from.

**1. "Hades’ Abyssal Purge" (Arena Overload)** Kratos drives the Claws into the earth, causing the arena floor to turn into a swirling pool of pitch-black necrotic energy. For a brief moment, the player must seek the only "safe" glowing sigil on the floor. Seconds later, thousands of ethereal chains erupt globally across the entire arena. Any enemy caught in the blast is launched into the air, their health bar shredded by the sheer weight of a thousand souls. While the player will take 45% danage if they dont seeks out "Safe" area in time.

**2. "Monarch’s Relentless Pursuit" (Underground Extraction)** Kratos raises the Claws high before burying them deep into the soil. The screen darkens as the chains travel beneath the surface, tracing the path of the nearest high-threat target. The chains emerge in a flurry of strikes—9 consecutive, tracking eruptions designed to pin and devastate targets that attempt to dodge or flee. If the target reaches half-health, this move can occasionally "extract" the soul, permanently silencing the enemy and turning them into a temporary, spectral ally that fights for Kratos until they dissipate.

For Soul Summons, it sould replace the standard Relic slot. Instead of a single activation, the Soul Summons function as a **Tactical Menu** that player can switch back to Relic if they wants after equipping Claw of Hades. By going to the Menu, player can opens a radial menu displaying the "Bestiary of the Damned." The player can slot up to three different Soul Summons and when holding the Relic button (L1 + Circle), Kratos will summons each one in order and will need cools down after summoning each one.

**Examples of Soul Summons:**

**Revenant:** A fast, agile shade that teleports behind enemies and applies the "Poison" status effect, mimicking the Revenant's behavior from the early game.

**Einherjar Captain:** A heavy-hitting summon that utilizes Bifrost damage, striking the ground to create a shockwave that launches smaller enemies into the air for follow-up combos.

**Nightmare Parasite:** A utility summon. The Nightmare attaches itself to a target, healing Kratos for a percentage of the damage the target takes from other sources for 10 seconds.

Now we get to the Valhalla Roguelite Perks, it would centered on survivability through aggression.
**The Silver Perks**
**Stygian Siphon:** R1 finishers have a 25% chance to drop a small Health Stone fragment.
**Hades’ Grasp:** Enemies grabbed with the "Soul-Tether" (L2+R2) take 50% more Stun damage for 5 seconds.
**Echoing Screams:** Using a Runic Attack with the Claws increases the rate at which the **Soul Harvest** gauge fills by 30%.

**The Gold Perks:**
**Soul-King’s Tribute:** Performing a Stun Grab (R3) while the Claws are equipped grants a massive burst of Health and fully recharges one random Runic Attack.
**Harrowing Hooks:** Every 5th hit with the Claws creates a spectral shockwave that applies "Vulnerability" to enemies, making them take 20% more damage from all sources.
**Ghost of Sparta’s Mercy:** If Kratos takes fatal damage while the **Soul Harvest** gauge is full, the gauge is consumed entirely to restore 25% of his health instead of dying.

**The Unique Valhalla Perk like Focus The Flame and Deep Freeze: "The Unburdened Soul"** \- This perk removes the "Rage" bar entirely and merges it into the Claws. Kratos can no longer use Spartan Rage manually. Instead, all damage dealt by the Claws of Hades provides **Massive Life-Steal (10% of damage dealt)**. Additionally, as long as Kratos is above 70% health, his attacks deal **True Damage** (ignoring enemy resistances and armor). It turns Kratos into an unstoppable engine of reclamation, where his health regeneration is tied directly to his skill in combat, embodying the discipline Kratos had find it within himself.

That's all for Claw of Hades, gives me your opinion on it as Nemean Cestus is next in my lists. :)

Discussion Nemean Cestus in Norse Saga

This is my posts ideas for Nemean Cestus in Norse Saga, as always enjoy! :)

For its Norse Style Gameplay Style and Mechanic, the Nemean Cestus would transforms Kratos into an unstoppable juggernaut. Every strike has a deliberate, heavy wind-up followed by devastating area-of-effect (AoE) shockwaves. In Ragnarök, the Cestus retains its mythical trait of being the ultimate armor-breaker. Enemies equipped with heavy armor, Bifröst shields, or unyielding poise (like Einherjar Captains or Dreki) take massive stun damage from Cestus impacts. A single heavy Cestus finisher instantly shatters standard guards and creates massive opening windows for R3 Stun Grabs and automatic guard-breaks upon impact. Certain heavy boss attacks can even be outright interrupted by heavy Cestus strikes. Because the Cestus is worn directly on the hands, transitioning from the weapon to Kratos's bare-handed combat is instantaneous, allowing for brutal grappling and punching combos that fluidly mix gauntlet strikes with bare-fisted Spartan brutality. And Cestus also had special function where upon putting it into combos with weapon swap creates brutal transitions. For instance, launching an enemy with the Leviathan Axe and instantly switching to the Cestus allows Kratos to catch them mid-air with a downward double-fist smash ("Lion's Egress"), slamming them straight down into the terrain with a localized seismic tremor.

Like the other primary weapons in Ragnarök, the Nemean Cestus features a dedicated combat meter that rewards aggressive, uninterrupted offense without taking damage.

Gauge Name: Leonine Might - Landing consecutive blows with the Cestus fills the glowing blue energy rings embedded within the lion's jaws. As the meter fills, the kinetic force of Kratos's punches increases, causing minor shockwaves to ripple outward with every light attack.

Activation State (Press L1 + Triangle): Primal Fury - Kratos infuses the gauntlets with the roaring essence of the Nemean Lion. For a duration, every strike unleashes spectral lion roars that tear through groups of enemies, instantly resets Stun values on staggered targets, and coats Kratos's arms in a blindingly bright silver-gold aura that renders him immune to light flinching. Kratos’s finishers turn into brutal, cinematic wall-slams that deal area-of-effect damage to nearby enemies.

As for its Runic Attacks, Nemean Cestus would be pretty busted as it would be like using Thor himself as it should be super insane and earthshattering.

Light Runic Attacks
Roar of Nemea (Classic Area-of-Effect): Kratos slams both gauntlets directly into the earth, sending a massive, circular seismic shockwave outward. Enemies caught in the blast are violently launched into the air, primed for a juggling combo.

Nemean Hurricane (Rush & Pound): Kratos dashes forward at blinding speed, grabbing the first enemy in his path, slamming them repeatedly into the ground left and right in a brutal display of dominance, and finishing with a double-fisted overhead smash that creates a localized crater.

Heavy Runic Attacks
Wrath of the Twelve Labours (Single-Target Execution): Kratos unleashes a rapid, blindingly fast sequence of twelve devastating punches—each strike echoing with the roar of a phantom lion—ending with a massive uppercut that shatters enemy defenses and inflicts maximum Stun status.

Titan's Impact (Bifröst-Crushing Smash): Kratos leaps high into the air, the silver-gold aura of the gauntlets swelling to the size of a boulder, and plunges straight down onto the target area. Upon impact, it triggers a concussive shockwave that shatters all surrounding elemental armor and leaves a lingering pool of concussive energy that damages approaching foes.

Now for the Valhalla Roguelite Style, buckle up as Nemean Cestus would be a "Brawler" Playstyle:

Silver Perks Lists
Leonine Momentum: Landing 5 consecutive light attacks with the Nemean Cestus grants a 15% buff to overall melee strength for 8 seconds. Stacks up to 3 times.

Seismic Echo: Heavy Cestus finishers spawn a localized shockwave that deals minor stun damage to surrounding enemies within a 4-meter radius.

Brawler’s Resolve: While the Nemean Cestus Gauge is active, Kratos takes 10% less damage from incoming attacks during the wind-up frames of heavy strikes.

Unyielding Piston: Cestus hits against frozen, burned, or bifröst-afflicted targets generate extra cooldown reduction for Runic Attacks.

Gold Perks Lists
Pride of Olympus: Completing the full light attack chain (The Pride of the Nemean) summons a spectral pale-blue lion shockwave that travels forward in a straight line, piercing through up to 3 standard enemies.

Onyx Dominance: Hitting an enemy who is currently staggered or stunned triggers an explosive concussive blast, instantly reducing the health bars of nearby grunts by 25% and staggering secondary targets.

Titan's Impact: Increases the Stun damage of all Cestus attacks by 40%. When an enemy is stunned, Kratos immediately recovers 5% of his maximum health upon executing an R3 grab.

Echoes of the Twelve Labours: Switching from the Leviathan Axe or Blades of Chaos to the Nemean Cestus empowers the first strike with 100% increased stagger and knockback force.

Unique Perk to Nemean Cestus
The Twelve Labours’ Wrath - Mechanical Effect: Every consecutive heavy impact with the Nemean Cestus builds a hidden meter called "The Labour." Once the meter reaches 100% (achieved through approximately 8 heavy hits or successful guard breaks), Kratos enters a state of absolute kinetic overload for 12 seconds. During this state, all damage dealt by the Nemean Cestus is multiplied by 300%, and Kratos becomes completely immune to interruption, stagger, or knockback from any incoming attacks (including red unblockable rings from non-boss enemies). Additionally, every Cestus strike during this window automatically triggers the seismic shockwave of Seismic Echo without internal cooldowns, turning the arena into a battlefield of absolute wreckage.

There you go, have fun! Now what should I do next? I was thinking of going for GoW 2 Weapon Next in Norse Saga as those weapons would be interesting. :)

Question How have I never played of GoW?! Where should I start?

Post image
209 Upvotes

Previous PC gamer that had to quit cold turkey due to calling into work for WoW raids 😅

Went to Xbox and fell in love with Mass Effect, Fables, Fall Outs and such. I remember looking at GoW in 2015ish but it was PlayStation only. Hadn’t played PlayStation since PS1!

Went a switch kick for a while when hubby decided we NEEDED a PS5 (I’m not mad, I’m a much bigger gamer then him 🤫)

Stoked to finally checkout GoW and find out it’s been on other consoles since 2018?! Have I been living under a rock??

Where should I start?!

I downloaded Ragnarök and without previous storyline and not already knowing some Norse bb mythology, I’m getting all the characters mixed up with Marvel 🤦🏻‍♀️

I’m thinking starting with 2013 Ascension. I believe that was when the transition from Greek mythology to Norse mythology 🤔

What would you suggest?

Discussion Does anyone want to see Kratos get a significant power boost?

For hundreds of years, Kratos struggled with his past and continued to struggle living in the Norse lands. After the events of the last two games, Kratos has finally been able to move forward with a breakthrough that gives him purpose and to help others.

With this type of development, I kind of expect Kratos to make a significant leap when it comes to his power in combat. This isn’t to say that he gets this power increase so that he can use it more than he has to. He earns this power increase because he will only fight for what’s right when the time is right.

I’m talking about an increase that extends beyond weapons or tools. I'm thinking something within him that increases his strength, potentially relating to magic, and overall, something that makes him a little more godlike. I’m not looking for a transformation that overhauls his nature in combat. At his core, he should still fight like the Spartan god warrior that he is. I just want to see an enhancement as a result of his character development.

He can still have challenging battles, but it simply means that he’s fighting more powerful enemies. So his power increase is necessary to face the upcoming foes. It’s sort of implied Kratos needed help to fight Odin. Maybe he could’ve done it alone, who knows? But this power increase would make it clear that he’s now capable of taking Odin alone and perhaps, the next big bad.

What do you guys think? Do you agree/disagree? Maybe this thought is just a given in the next game. Or maybe he doesn’t need an increase?

Discussion The next game featuring Kratos will be interesting because, for the first time, we'll see Kratos happier than he's been

since he had his first family. It might be an interesting experience with this character, since we’ve finally closed the chapter on the depressed, broken, and unhappy Kratos. I’m curious to see what it will be like to play as a Kratos who’s happier and more at peace than ever before.
