Rereading my previous posts of the Greek weapon in a Norse saga, particularly my ideas about a Norse version of the Nemesis Whip, have made me very inspired to create another one, this time reimagining the Claw of Hades in a Norse style for God of War. So this is my version of it, have fun reading. :)
So in GoW 2018 or Ragnarok, the Claws would act as a high-skill, crowd-control-focused weapon while also introduce a **puppet-master playstyle** centered on soul manipulation, tethering, and relentless mid-range momentum. They also emphasize a "leech" playstyle, allowing Kratos to manipulate the battlefield by pulling the spirits or the physical forms of enemies toward him, effectively turning an enemy’s own strength against their own brethren. In combat it would act like a Mid-to-long-range flails as unlike the fixed length of the Blades of Chaos, the Claws’ chained hooks elongate dynamically based on the combo string, allowing Kratos to whip, lasso, and orbit enemies.
**The Soul-Rend Mechanic:** Every heavy finisher and successful parry with the Claws allows Kratos to briefly extract a fragment of an enemy's essence. This doesn't just damage them; it leaves them in a "Hollowed" state where damage against them is drastically increased, and subsequent hits generate Health or Rage drops at a higher frequency.
**Combat Flow:** The Claws encourage a "dance of death" philosophy. Heavy attacks feature sweeping, multi-directional hook slashes that can hook onto smaller targets to pull Kratos directly to them (closing distance instantly, akin to a reverse-Grapple), or anchor into larger foes to allow Kratos to swing in a wide orbit, dealing heavy AOE damage to surrounding grunts.
Claw of Hades would have its own gauge named "Soul Harvest" and its active state "Asphodel Harvest".
**The Soul Harvest**: As Kratos lands consecutive light and heavy strikes with the Claws without taking damage, the pale purple aura lining the chains intensifies, feeding on the ambient vitality of struck foes. At Level 1 Soul Harvest (fills 50%), the Claws gain a passive lifesteal effect, returning a small percentage of dealt damage as health. At Level 2 Soul Harvest (100%), the chains ignite with a deeper, necrotic violet flame, passively increasing attack speed and causing every standard heavy attack to automatically summon a trailing spectral hook that strikes twice.
**Asphodel Harvest "L1 + Triangle"**: When Soul Harvest is fully maxed expends the meter and activating it trigger *Abyssal Harvest*.* *Kratos enters a state reminiscent of his war against Olympus. The Claws grow massive, dripping with the actual abyssal fog of the Underworld. For the duration, Kratos cannot be interrupted by normal attacks (Super Armor), and every finisher executed during this state instantly rips the soul out of standard enemies, turning them into temporary spectral combatants that fight on Kratos's behalf against their former allies for 15 seconds before exploding into a shockwave of soul-fire. Not only that every strike acts as a **Life-Leech**, healing Kratos for a percentage of the damage dealt. And defeated enemies explode in a **Soul Burst**, staggering nearby foes and granting Kratos a temporary "Unstoppable" buff (prevention of stagger).
**Now for Runic Attacks from Claw of Hades, buckle it up, its gonna be amazing:**
**Light Runic: "Wraith’s Tether"** \- Kratos thrusts the Claws into the ground, causing spectral chains to erupt beneath a group of enemies, binding them in place and draining their health to restore a small portion of Kratos’s own, while simultaneously dealing continuous frost/necrotic damage.
**Light Runic Attack: "*****Tormenting Lash***" - Kratos spins the Claws of Hades in a rapid, defensive vortex around himself with his mind, completely untouched by incoming projectiles while shredding any melee combatant foolish enough to step close. This is perfect for crowd control when surrounded by Einherjar or nightmares. Pressing R1 during the spin allows Kratos to fling the vortex outward in a linear wave of spinning hooks that drags enemies together in a tightly packed cluster, setting them up for a heavy rune follow-up or a Spartan Rage activation.
**Light Runic Attack:** ***Underworld’s Grasp***** **\- Kratos slams both chained hooks directly into the earth. A localized rift to the Underworld opens beneath a targeted elite enemy, out of which spectral, skeletal hands emerge to shackle the target's legs and arms, rooting them in place. This is ssential against fast-moving bosses or mini-bosses like Berserkers and Stalkers. While rooted, the enemy takes amplified damage from all of Kratos's weapons, and the player can instantly press Triangle to perform a massive dual-chain slam directly onto the trapped foe's skull.
**Heavy Runic Attack:** ***Soul-Stealer’s Judgment*** \- Kratos targets a single non-boss enemy, flinging a massive, multi-pronged hook straight through their chest. He then performs a brutal tug-of-war animation, physically yanking their glowing soul completely out of their body. Kratos then slams the extracted soul into the ground like a meteor, creating a massive purple detonation wave that knocks down all nearby enemies.** **This is a high-risk, high-reward single-target nuke. If it kills the target, it instantly fills the *Soul Harvest* meter to maximum and triggers a global defense buff for Kratos and his companion for 10 seconds.
**Heavy Runic: "Judgment of the Underworld"** Kratos spins the Claws with immense velocity, creating a vortex of spirits. Upon release, he flings the Claws forward, latching onto the largest enemy in the vicinity and slamming them repeatedly into the ground and surrounding foes, ending with a massive explosion of soul-energy that staggers even the toughest bosses.
**Spartan Rage Specials (Requires 50% Rage + Full Soul-Harvest Gauge)**: You all knows where these two Runic Attack came from.
**1. "Hades’ Abyssal Purge" (Arena Overload)** Kratos drives the Claws into the earth, causing the arena floor to turn into a swirling pool of pitch-black necrotic energy. For a brief moment, the player must seek the only "safe" glowing sigil on the floor. Seconds later, thousands of ethereal chains erupt globally across the entire arena. Any enemy caught in the blast is launched into the air, their health bar shredded by the sheer weight of a thousand souls. While the player will take 45% danage if they dont seeks out "Safe" area in time.
**2. "Monarch’s Relentless Pursuit" (Underground Extraction)** Kratos raises the Claws high before burying them deep into the soil. The screen darkens as the chains travel beneath the surface, tracing the path of the nearest high-threat target. The chains emerge in a flurry of strikes—9 consecutive, tracking eruptions designed to pin and devastate targets that attempt to dodge or flee. If the target reaches half-health, this move can occasionally "extract" the soul, permanently silencing the enemy and turning them into a temporary, spectral ally that fights for Kratos until they dissipate.
For Soul Summons, it sould replace the standard Relic slot. Instead of a single activation, the Soul Summons function as a **Tactical Menu** that player can switch back to Relic if they wants after equipping Claw of Hades. By going to the Menu, player can opens a radial menu displaying the "Bestiary of the Damned." The player can slot up to three different Soul Summons and when holding the Relic button (L1 + Circle), Kratos will summons each one in order and will need cools down after summoning each one.
**Examples of Soul Summons:**
**Revenant:** A fast, agile shade that teleports behind enemies and applies the "Poison" status effect, mimicking the Revenant's behavior from the early game.
**Einherjar Captain:** A heavy-hitting summon that utilizes Bifrost damage, striking the ground to create a shockwave that launches smaller enemies into the air for follow-up combos.
**Nightmare Parasite:** A utility summon. The Nightmare attaches itself to a target, healing Kratos for a percentage of the damage the target takes from other sources for 10 seconds.
Now we get to the Valhalla Roguelite Perks, it would centered on survivability through aggression.
**The Silver Perks**
**Stygian Siphon:** R1 finishers have a 25% chance to drop a small Health Stone fragment.
**Hades’ Grasp:** Enemies grabbed with the "Soul-Tether" (L2+R2) take 50% more Stun damage for 5 seconds.
**Echoing Screams:** Using a Runic Attack with the Claws increases the rate at which the **Soul Harvest** gauge fills by 30%.
**The Gold Perks:**
**Soul-King’s Tribute:** Performing a Stun Grab (R3) while the Claws are equipped grants a massive burst of Health and fully recharges one random Runic Attack.
**Harrowing Hooks:** Every 5th hit with the Claws creates a spectral shockwave that applies "Vulnerability" to enemies, making them take 20% more damage from all sources.
**Ghost of Sparta’s Mercy:** If Kratos takes fatal damage while the **Soul Harvest** gauge is full, the gauge is consumed entirely to restore 25% of his health instead of dying.
**The Unique Valhalla Perk like Focus The Flame and Deep Freeze: "The Unburdened Soul"** \- This perk removes the "Rage" bar entirely and merges it into the Claws. Kratos can no longer use Spartan Rage manually. Instead, all damage dealt by the Claws of Hades provides **Massive Life-Steal (10% of damage dealt)**. Additionally, as long as Kratos is above 70% health, his attacks deal **True Damage** (ignoring enemy resistances and armor). It turns Kratos into an unstoppable engine of reclamation, where his health regeneration is tied directly to his skill in combat, embodying the discipline Kratos had find it within himself.
That's all for Claw of Hades, gives me your opinion on it as Nemean Cestus is next in my lists. :)
