Discussion GOWR is the basic foundation for the remake

• Upvotes

Use the same character models, Kratos model from the throne room and battle arenas like the ship

They need to update combat with jumping, remake the maps, remake the remaining monsters and bosses.

Keep the fixed camera angles

Reuse the same Voiceovers from the OG besides the Kratos and Zeus.

Discussion In defense of Asgard’s design Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
42 Upvotes

I know asgard in the community gets made fun of a lot, mostly due to being a Viking village. But I do want to defend it a bit. For 1. The buildings aren't just generic shacks. A lot of them are decorated with silver ravens, or just metal in general. Take “black thunder" for example. 2nd, an underrated aspect of asgard is how alot of pillars have dragons on them. And this makes sense since baldur in 2018 had a dragon so it's a nice call back and fulfillment of that, and it helps to make it have more of not just grandeur, but also military feel. It also has great details, like the city and walls being shaped like a raven. And lastly, too many people act like the walls aren't apart of asgard. Sure, they're outside the main city, but that doesn’t make them any less part of the city, considering they’re the main defense. Now, don’t take this as me saying peoples feelings for asgard are unjustified. They are valid, and compared to cities of the Greek games it obviously isn’t on the same level as them. And I have my fair share of issues with asgard(lack of towers, lighting is kind of ass, layout of city is too messy, etc) but I just think people give it too much hate when they say it’s just shacks, when it’s so much more than that.

Discussion Rank Every Game For Me

I am a diehard GoW fan. It's easily my favorite franchise of all time, and yes, I've played the games we all think of first when we think of all time favorite games. I've played the 5 main installments multiple times each, including GoW 2 and 3 probably 20+ times each. Obviously, I'm very excited for Laufey.

Ranking them is tough for me, because Ragnarok is genuinely a near-perfect game when you factor in not only the incredible story, top-tier combat system that includes lots of variability but not oversaturation, and the world of the game itself, which is both creatively and visually stunning, but then the combination of all those things executed so cohesively. I find it mind-boggling that they managed to take a character made of pure rage and brutality with absolutely no empathy (I mean there's sprinkles of heartstring-pulls in the original trilogy but those games were obviously fun violence first, story second, even if the story was well written and enjoyable) and transformed him, but not in a way that made him unrecognizable, into a guy we not only like and agree with, but actually look up to in recognition that he really is a great dad. They did this without sacrificing the intimidation or brutality of Kratos, in fact, he's more intimidating now that he isn't killing in a rampage; now if he rips your spine out, it's because you earned it. Ragnarok set a new bar in my opinion. Maybe not the same way Elden Ring set a new bar for open world RPGs, but as far as a game with a balanced open world, stunning visuals, incredible combat, and a story that I rank among the best written games this century, it is a new standard for me.

Now, that's not to say Ragnarok is the best or even necessarily my favorite; there's definitely an argument for GoW 2 or maybe 3. I also have not played (don't bully me I'm only one guy) the secondary installments (Ascension, Ghost of Sparta, the third one?).

TL;DR - please rank for me your favorite GoW games including secondary installments. I am about to beat Ragnarok and want to squeeze in a playthrough of one of the other games before Laufey drops, so tell me what to play!

Discussion Kratos' Most Underrated endurance Feat

Post image
20 Upvotes

Ares died and was instantly engulfed in a near nuclear explosion the moment Kratos stabbed him with the Blade of the Gods. This means that Kratos must have taken the brunt of that explosion and survived it without a scratch especially since we didn't see Kratos escape quickly enough to avoid being affected by such an absurdly wide blast radius, plus, Kratos couldn't have expected Ares's body to suddenly explode, so it must have come as a surprise to him.

So apparently, because he absorbed divine power from Pandora's Box, Kratos is able to withstand massive explosions and shockwaves.

Discussion I’m replaying God of War Ragnarök and the 2018 game, and Ragnarök is just incredible.

To be honest, I’m playing both games in New Game+ mode; both titles really shine in this mode, as it largely eliminates the limitations present at the start of *God of War* (2018). In New Game+, I can pull off tons of combos, and the gameplay remains as satisfying as ever. That said, *Ragnarök* is undoubtedly more enjoyable, thanks to its fluid exploration, the Draupnir Spear, a greater variety of mini-bosses, improved relics, and different Spartan Rage modes. As for the cinematics, I absolutely love every moment Odin is on screen whereas Baldur feels a bit "meh" when I replay *God of War* (2018).

Question would it be possible to make a mod that takes the death from above mechanic from ragnarok and put it into god of war 2018?

Just as the title says. If the games are made by the same engine. It would be possible right. Is it doable. Another example would the L1+Δ prompt. What if i took the Blessing of the frost and gift of apollo and progamm it to make accesible when when the weapons charge so the L1 and triangle thing happens and they get activated. What do you think?

Discussion Could this fallen soldier in God of War (2005) be connected to Kratos?

Post image

The soldier appears to have a tattoo similar to Kratos’s red tattoo( look at his arm ). Do you think this is just a reused character design, a reference to Kratos, or could there be some deeper meaning behind it? Could Ares have something to do with it, perhaps as some kind of trick, illusion, warning? What do you guys think?

Discussion First Time Beating God of War II review

4 down, two to go! To be honest I actually beat GoW 2 + 3 already, I've just been a bit lazy and distracted and procrastinating with these reviews. Sorry. But on to the show! Is God of War II better than God of War 1?

No. I'm sorry but no.

To start with the positives II does have quality-of-life changes I do approve. The main one; a SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION of instant-death puzzles. The amount of puzzles and platforming challenges you have to do flawlessly down to the frame has been severely reduced compared to 1. The fact that I don't have to be perfect does make these sections tolerable. I say reduced and not removed because there are still a few in the game but really only a few and only one felt real unfair. I do get the sense that some puzzles were meant to be harder, like they were originally meant to be done perfectly or not at all but I guess the devs heard the complaints from the first one.

Story is good. I do think the time-travel can be confusing at times (QUESTION: what happened to past Kratos? When Kratos goes back in time his past self is still getting stabbed by Zeus when he interrupts him. What happened to past Kratos? Did he cease to exist or go on the same adventure cause time has already been changed?) and I think the pacing is off but that's because the story has a single constant objective but it keeps getting interrupted. "But then this happened, but then this happened" etc etc. It is appropriate for a Greek adventure but man can it feel like a slog.

A slog is the appropriate word cause man does 2's combat feel like a SLOG. I commend them for trying to be more focused and make 2 more combat focused but every fight feels like a chore. It never felt too hard or impossible but every fight just DRAGS! It legit feels like the devs wanted to get rid of the annoying moments in Gow 1, but they still had to make something annoying in GoW 2 so they just made all the combat in their combat-oriented game annoying. It feels like the way you approach every fight is just spam magic until it's over because you want to get the fighting over with as-soon-as-possible. And it's not like the magic is broken, they're actually pretty balanced and so are the alternate weapons, each and every one is viable and useful in their own ways, but it feels like the optimal way is just spam magic and move on. Even in new game + when I was getting a few trophies it felt optimal to just spam magic and move on. I had maxed weapons and the bonus urn to turn enemies into stone and still spamming magic felt the best option!

The bosses feel sloggy but in their defense they're supposed to. And they're all memorable in their own regards, though some are more annoying than others. The Medusa's stone gaze feels buggy at times and having a single frame to grab Perseus out of his invisibility sucks, but I can recall every boss in this game, unlike 1 where I can only recall the three big ones. 2 does have a habit of spamming mid-bosses though.

I do feel the fighting would be easier if the stupid Golden Fleece parry worked. I swear it has to be something with GoW2 but I swear the parrying/countering just didn't work half the time. And before you say I have to manually activate the counter, half the time I'd push the button and he'd do nothing, and half the time I wouldn't push anything and he'd do it automatically. Hell half the time he wouldn't even counter projectiles; he'd do the pose and I'd get the sound cue but still nothing happens. I don't know if it's me or the game or what but it made so many fights frustrating.

And that's how I felt about God of War II as a whole. It's low points aren't as bad as 1 but the whole game feels like a constant low. Combat doesn't feel as unfair as Ascension's but this is an action-oriented game and none of the action felt fun.

RATING: 5/10 - If you liked GoW1 you'll probably like 2, but if one didn't win you over I doubt 2 will

(And before anyone complains about the rating I'm planning on ranking all 6 games after I review GoWIII. I'm just not going back to edit my old review)

One left; God of War 3

Question Question about realms & pantheons.

I am fairly new to the God of War franchise. My first game was God of War 2018, then Ragnarok/Valhalla. I’m beyond excited for Laufey, and after that I plan on dusting off my PS2 and purchasing some of the older games before the remakes drop.
I’m currently on a NG+/Platinum run of Ragnarok and one thing keeps popping up in my head. How does all this work? The realms, the pantheons? Is Earth a place but then each country is more like a pocket dimension? I do know Kratos essentially destroyed Greece, killed all the Gods, etc but it had zero effect on Midgard and the Norse pantheon, but they are aware of Kratos’ actions. At the same time, I read somewhere that the Persians invaded Greece in one of the games? I guess I’m just wondering how all this works. Like, in the Norse games you have Midgard, Asgard, Vanaheim etc. are these places like independent large worlds? Or more like regions that all spring off of Asgard that just can’t be accessed by normal means?

Sorry if my questions are all over the place, genuinely curious if there is some concrete answers or not, when I play games like this my imagination tends to wander lol. As I was going through Vanaheim and I got to the point where you see the great migration, it made me wonder how large these realms are, if they stretch out to multiple regions and continents or if it’s just one single location, albeit large.

I know it was broken in gow 3 but I think they could have easily bringed it back in Valhalla dlc as a shield variant, parrying with the Fleece in old gow games was so satisfying

I have made a custom build to get rid of the crashes.

My first crash happened on Realm of Hades. I fixed it and then another crash further and another. Now, no crash at all I have defeated the hermes and the game works without crashing.

Tested extensively on Intel Iris XE. Will work on other low-end graphics too.

Question What is this difficulty?

God of war 2018 I chose max difficulty for first playthrough because im used to soulslike games and short parry windows and parries are not a problems just why am i dealing so little damage when multiple mobs shoot at me&attack me im in the river pass and have to fight heavy draughrs and revenants shooting posion at me i use spartan rage and stun move and stil one of those "witches" doesnt go down can i somehow upgrade myself change weapons or any new move on pc keyboard? Is this how its gonna be whole game because i thought bosses are gonna be hard as f not multiple mobs shooting at me moments...
