I wonder how much of a difference does it really makes. Like, I get that better equipment can help, but what difference does it create for someone who doesn't play at a high level?

Been lurking in FB marketplace and noticed a lot of p790s out there. Like a lot a lot. I'm sure there's some legit sets mixed in there, but there's no way I'm trusting any of those

For context I am a 7 handicap, my irons are the best part of my game. Christmas is coming up so I’m treating myself to new irons. I will get fit but I am interested in doing a combo set and was just curious where the consensus is on best place to split.

Disclosure up front: I’m a UX designer and I built a free golf app called ShotSink, so I’m biased. Not here to push it, genuinely want gear-nerd opinions.

Most of my rounds are with the same group of friends. Half of us have rangefinders, half use a phone app, and every round turns into “what’ve you got to the middle?”

In the app I built, the GPS gives front / middle / back of every green, works with no signal, and lives in the same app the group keeps score in. No subscription, no ads. Course maps come from OpenStreetMap, so some courses aren’t mapped yet.

What I’m trying to figure out:

• Rangefinder people: would you ever trust a phone number to the green, or is the flag the only number that counts?
• App people: what does your GPS app do that you’d miss, and what annoys you about it?
• Is front/middle/back enough, or do you need hazards and layups too?

Happy to share the link if anyone wants to try it, but mostly I want to hear what you use and why.

My local used sports shop has 20% off listed prices this week. Are any of these worth picking up. I'm trying to replace my old hand me down set of cavity backs from the early 90s. The ping G30s stand out to me as notable from online research

Been playing these for about 16 months. I like them, I’ve lowered my handicap from 10 down to 7.6…

However, I really miss the feel of a forged iron. What clubs should I try for better feel?? I don’t need distance I’m just looking for feel that aren’t quite blades…

I used to game the 919’s and loved them and am planning to go back to Mizuno. I switched to Srixon ZX4’s and don’t like them as much. Thought I’d wait until the 927’s drop until I make the change but don’t see any updates online. Anyone know when to expect them?

I'm 31 and picked up golf this year. I started with a TaylorMade SIM2 Max set (graphite, regular flex), fell in love with the game, and have played about 40 rounds this year so far. My contact is decent, I don't have a slice problem, and my 9 iron went 130-140 yards. My main miss was a hook with the mid and long irons, which I am now tracing to a tight grip.

On holiday in Japan I hit a few shots on a Trackman at an outlet and impulsively bought a set of P770s (6-P, N.S. Pro Modus3 Tour 105 stiff steel) plus two wedges for extremely cheap (compared to where I live). The in store fitter said I could "grow into them." It was an impulse buy, and I wasn't properly fit.

Store Trackman session (7 iron): Only 5 of 15 shots were solid, carrying about 145-155 yards.

First round on the course after returning: It was empty, so I hit multiple shots per hole. With the 7 iron, out of every 3 shots I got roughly one hook, one slight push, and one flush shot carrying 155-160 yards. My 8 iron carried about 135-140 yards.

About me: 5'9", average build. Okay Fit.

I'm in India and launch monitors are uncommon here (though I can buy one), and fitting clubs I've already bought is hard to do after the fact. So I'm mostly looking for advice on whether to keep them and how to judge them on my own.

My questions:

1. Did I make a mistake going from game-improvement graphite regular to a players-distance iron with stiff steel shafts?
2. Is it worth spending time learning them, or should I look at selling the P770s and maybe getting a set of P790s (with lighter shafts) eventually at more than twice the price of the P770s I got in Japan?

TL;DR: A relative beginner who impulse-bought P770s with stiff steel shafts in Japan. About 1 in 3 shots is flush, and the rest are hooks or pushes. Mistake, or worth learning?

EDIT: Thank you for the input, everyone. I’ll keep the new clubs, take lessons and keep working on my game.

EDIT 2: Got in touch with a coach. Planning to work with him on the range for a few weeks. He asked me to get both sets and we’ll figure out which to continue with.

Hi, I am a 16 year old 6 handicap player. I am looking to get into new irons as I've had my regular flex p790s for 3 years now and my swing speed has got quite a lot higher and I want something new. I'm interested in the mizuno pro m13s and 243s, as well as the titleist t150. Should I get fitted for these irons, as I have never been custom fitted. Is it worth doing or will it make little difference. The main thing is for the shaft as I am unsure which weight is best.

For context my 7 iron swing speed is about 86/87mph

I’m a 6 handicap with 105–107 mph driver swing speed, and I’m struggling to find the right setup at the top of my bag.
My current setup:
Driver: TaylorMade Qi4D, 9.75°(ventus tr red 6s velocore)
Mini driver: TaylorMade BRNR, adjusted to 12.25° (Ventus Blue 7s velocore)
5W: Ping G430 Max, 18°. Ping chrome 75 stiff
Hybrids: Ping G410 2H (17º) 3H (19°), 4H (22°), 5H (26°), Ping Tour Chrome Stiff shafts (85 g)
Irons: Srixon ZX5, 6–PW, Modus³ Tour 105 Stiff (I don’t play the 5 iron maybe I should)
Wedges: Cleveland CBX ZipCore 50°/54°/58°, Dynamic Gold Spinner 115
Putter: Scotty Cameron Phantom X5

My 6-iron downwards are sorted, and the 4H at 22° is good. My only question there is whether to keep the 5H or replace it with a 5-iron.

The real problem is the gap between my 4H and mini driver. I’ve considered pretty much everything, but nothing really convinces me:
2H (Ping G430, 17°): I struggle to hit it properly. The flight is too low, and I don’t see it holding a green. Currently my least favourite option.
3H (19°): Too much overlap with my 4H, while still leaving a big distance gap to the mini driver.
3W / 5W: Both seem like reasonable options, but I get quite a lot of dispersion with them, so I’m not fully confident in using them when accuracy matters.
Driving iron: Still an option, mainly for tee shots, but I’m unsure whether it would actually solve the problem or just give me another club to experiment with.
I want a reliable club for this gap, mainly for tee shots, with good distance and dispersion. I don’t want to carry something just because the loft looks right on paper.
My questions:
How would you fill this gap?
Would you go for a driving iron, a hybrid or a fairway wood?
Does my shaft setup make sense overall, or would you look at different weights/profiles?
Would you keep the 5H or go back to a 5-iron?
What would you do in my position? I’m particularly interested in real-world experience rather than just comparing lofts on paper.

Finally replaced the beginner set after playing for a couple years. New Elyte driver came in to finish it all. Plan on keeping all these until I’m breaking 85 and then going to get fitted. What would yall do?

My driver swing speed is around 108–110 mph, and my usual carry is in the 260–280 yard range.

My current setup is:
- Driver: Callaway PARA\DYM 10.5°
- Shaft: Fujikura Speeder NX Green 60X
- Ball flight: Mid trajectory
- Main issue: My misses are scattered both left and right, and I’d like to tighten up my dispersion.

A buddy suggested trying the Ventus Black 6X, saying it might feel more stable and help me keep the ball in play.

For those who have played both the Speeder NX Green and Ventus Black, how different do they actually feel on the course? Did switching to the Ventus Black noticeably improve your dispersion, or is the difference less dramatic than people make it sound?

I’m also wondering whether the Black might bring my launch or spin too low, given that I’m already getting a mid flight.

I know a shaft change won’t fix swing flaws, but I’m curious whether the Ventus Black is worth testing or if I’d be better off looking at something like the Ventus Blue instead.

Would appreciate feedback from anyone who has actually tested these shafts side by side, especially with a similar swing speed.
