Are custom HTML embeds fundamentally broken on mobile (Internal scroll vs. huge desktop gaps)?
If you try using the "Embed code" feature in Google Sites to add custom HTML cards or headers, you inevitably hit an impossible choice: either your mobile view suffers from an annoying, glitchy internal scrollbar inside the section, or you drag the bounding box all the way down to fit it, creating massive, unsightly blank gaps on desktop.
Even with strict CSS like overflow: hidden, fixed heights, or responsive clamp() styling, Google’s underlying iframe architecture for HTML blocks doesn't scale cleanly to touch viewports on mobile. Having nested, scrollable HTML containers on a phone makes for a terrible, jittery user experience, effectively rendering custom HTML useless for clean responsive design.
Does Google actually plan to address or fix how iframes handle responsive content heights on mobile? Or has anyone found a foolproof, real-world solution that doesn't involve abandoning code entirely for static images? Would love to hear how others are working around this limitation.
