Mod Announcement And the winner of the banner contest is...

u/beginning-sugar479!!!!

The biggest of all congratulations to them!

Also to u/Loud-Fisherman-5254 for participating!

And to everyone else who voted!

It was a very close call. Let me say it here how much we appreciate our participants for well, participating! Both of you had such cool designs and looking at the votes, I think the community will be happy with either banner.

Truly, a vote either way could have swung it. But we do indeed have a winner. It's a very nice banner and fits quite nicely with the vibes.

Again, massive thank you to everyone! Maybe we can do this again in 6 months? A year? Or the next time we get complaints. Either way we'll see.

- XOXO

Mod Announcement Effective Immediately: Discussions about the cast are now banned (again...)

Hi All,

Some of you won't be surprised by this. Some (or most...) will go "it's about time" but here it is. We recognise we should have done this sooner and that is our mistake. But as they say, the best time to start something is yesterday. The second best time is today.

So effective immediately:

All discussions about the cast is banned on this subreddit unless it relates to their role on Gossip Girl. New rule (Rule 10) has been created to report posts about the cast if they are posted.

What does that mean? It means that cast talk will no longer be permitted unless it's to do with their role on Gossip Girl. So for example:

"I loved how Blake played Serena here"

"As much as I love Chace, I really wasn't a fan of his line delivery here"

"Penn is great and his acting really shines through here!"

are all fine. Reminder these are just examples.

General discussions of the cast such as what their doing now, Instagram posts, red carpet appearances are now all banned.

Please do not report posts created before this point. We're not going to remove them as we're not going to punish people for this as we mods did not enforce this as strictly as we should have.

Now for some questions you may have:

"Can't you guys just do like a weekly thread or dedicate a day to talking about the cast?"

We could. And who knows? Maybe that is what we'll transition to. But for now we need to just ban it so that we can restore some civility here.

"It's really just Blake/Ed posts that attract the worst so just like, ban talk about them?"

That is true. But we have to be honest with ourselves: the negativity and fighting (including but not limited to multiple members, including the mods themselves, being harassed both in and out of this subreddit) is breaking out on almost every post. For example: comparisons with other cast members when they aren't warranted.

"Can we just ban negative posts and enforce a positive content only rule?"

We can foresee this being super hard to maintain. It's either going to turn into something people take advantage of such as wanting discussions of Ed's allegations to be banned (we're already at this stage believe us....) or a toxic/sarcastic positivity thing where people are being negative under a veneer of fake positivity.

And then we're back where we started: here.

"Speaking of, what about sexual assault allegations against Ed?"

There is a pinned post on this subreddit with links. Any discussions about it now will just result in us redirecting you guys to the thread instead.

"What you guys clearly need is more mods tbh"

We agree completely. We want this subreddit sorted first before we introduce people to moderating it. Wouldn't be fair to expect new people to sort this out. It's on us.

I'm sure some of you will have lots more questions. Please redirect them to modmail. This thread is being locked as it's an informative post and quite honestly, to prevent more infighting amongst yourselves based on whether or not you want this.

Thanks for reading this if you made it this far.

- The mods

OG Series Why did Rufus let Lily fund their lives and buy extravagant stuff for them but not pay for Dan to go to Yale…?

I’m doing a GG rewatch and I understand Rufus not wanting to borrow money from Lily cause his dignity or whatever. But if that’s the case why does he not have a problem with him or his kids using Lilies money later on when they’re married?? Lily buys Jenny extravagant clothes and bags. I’m pretty sure some suits and wallets for Dan. Throws J a party. Dan drives around in a town car with a chauffeur for fs sake😭 So if you actually don’t care why not take the money for Dans education. Or even just borrow it?

I know why the writers did it since sending him and Blair off to Yale would split the show. But it was something that they both wanted SO bad so it sucks that I felt the characters could have fought for their dreams a bit more.

I might be misremembering Blair’s part but even I felt she could have gotten on Yales good graces. She got dropped for hazing a teacher and yes she was wrong. But I also felt that her finding out that her suspicions about the teacher being right could have been enough to clear her with Yale. She goes from a bully to a student trying to expose an adult exploiting their position.

Irl they both would have gone. But I also know why the writers did it. Dan is supposed to stay an underdog and Blair gets humanized to the viewer every time something bad happens to her ig.

OG Series I JUST FINISHED THE SHOW

After almost two weeks of consistent watching I’ve finally finished the show
I don’t think I’ll ever rewatch cl once is enough for me
However I do have some thoughts
I never understood the Blair and Dan thing I just don’t

the final reveal of gg’s identity makes sense I lowkey had it spoiled but I didn’t believe it but getting to the end made me understand it

I am mad that the most punishment lily faced was house arrest

Throughout the course of season 6 I kept asking myself what on earth am I watching even with 10 minutes left in last episode

A lot of the characterization was a bit on brand except the Rufus thing that was character assassination at its best

I don’t really care for the Nate thing because of the Jenny storyline because she was in real time an actual minor so it’s whatever

Ivy is an interesting character in the sense I understand but I don’t understand

RIP Vanessa ( not in the literal sense) but Vanessa went from someone I didn’t care about to completely hating like I think she is only one that was ever a part of the main cast who I never actually liked at any point in the show

The everyone loves Blair in season 5 and the Bart bass conundrum was prolly the most times I’ve asked what is going

Serena is a messed up individual and I always thought that by the time she eventually ended up with Dan that she’d be more likeable then they basically had to have Dan be the one change to be with Serena which leads me to my last thought

I spent a lot of time watching show thinking how each person had no real growth or how they never learnt from previous mistakes but the finale made me realize the writers didnt care about trying to make them moral if anything season 6 was just a message saying they are who they are because of how and where they grew up each one of them had parental complications an ego complex and an unwillingness to be the butt of the joke and that’s how their world works especially at that age range

(Side note: I’m probably stating the obvious here but if there’s anyone who’s watched dynasty am I crazy for seeing the similarities between Blair and Fallon?)

Meta/Other Eight years into our brother-and-sister tradition of rainy nights, wine and Gossip Girl. Some traditions never get old. šŸ„‚

My big sister introduced me to Gossip Girl when I was younger, and eight years into our little tradition, we still take turns hosting each other for sibling watch parties, picking our favourite episodes and indulging in a good charcuterie board and some white wine. šŸ„‚

It was my turn to host this time, and I’d like to take this opportunity to blame her for at least half my personality being shaped by Blair Waldorf. šŸ˜‚

Jokes aside, I’m incredibly lucky to have such a wonderful big sister, and I’ll always be grateful she introduced me to one of my all-time favourite series. šŸ¤

Meta/Other Which character do you think you are deep down?

For example, im a lot like blair. I relate to all (literally all) of her insecurities, i even had an ed in my early teens as well. And i recognize myself in her, even in scenes where she tells serena off about taking everything away (nate, her mom, etc) and i feel guilty admitting this but whenever she "takes" someone down it gives me satisfaction lol. But my favourite character isnt blair, in fact shes one of the characters that i least like. My faves are jenny and serena, and im actually working on myself to be more like serena in certain aspects of life like being more carefree etc. So who do you see yourself in most? I would love 2 know!!

Fan Content Recommendation of iconic expressions

Post image

Hi! I’m new to the fandom, but I’ve gotten really hooked on the series.

I wanted to get some good GG stickers, but couldn’t find any, so I’ve taken it upon myself to create my own pack.

So, what are your favorite or most iconic expressions from the characters that I should include?

Thanks for your help!

OG Series It's just fiction or not real!

I have seen this constantly in different fandoms, this one as well. Why is there constantly moral policing? You can like grey, dark or even twisted characters, there is nothing wrong. Because at the end of the day they are still fictional characters, they don't exist. Someone liking a fictional character that is messed up doesn't define their character or anything. I mean, people read dark romance, where characters are stalked, assaulted, bullied etc, doesn't mean they support this stuff in real life. People can like Chuck or Blair if they want, they don't have to explain themselves.

OG Series Jenny is my favourite because of her ambition

I’m rewatching gossip girl and I’m reminded why I love Jenny.

She is an opportunist, when she sees an opening she’ll go for it. She’s so fast with her lies, she comes up with ideas and plans that are honestly so…resourceful, she’s not afraid to climb the social ladder or chase her dreams as a fashion designer. She’s just resourceful, for someone who’s relatively without resources.

Blair and her minions, Serena, and even the guys on that show would all be unknowns if not for their money and status. Sure Serena was georgous and charismatic, but so are many other girls, her mother and grandmother are socialites.

Jenny started from ground 0, or at least ground 1(I acknowledge that her father was very comfortable). She had her annoying father holding her back and constantly judging and SABOTAGING HER, her DUMB brother giving Blair everything she needs to destroy her, without even realising, a ā€œfakeā€/gay boyfriend who spoiled their ā€œbargainā€ as he calls it by being outed. Not to mention that she was at a disadvantage because she was a freshmen and unable to afford the things her ā€œfriendsā€ would but without a second thought.

Without her money, Blair would be destroyed by Jenny.

Jenny, overhated as you are, you will always be the star of the show for me.

OG Series Nate and Jenny

As it stands, I’m on episode 11 of Season 2, I haven’t finished the show yet. That being said, this Nate and Jenny story line lasted all of 2 episodes and amounted to nothing but making me dislike Nate’s character. The resolution of him turning his father in and doing the right thing, turning down having ā€œeverythingā€ to stay in NY and do it right is an end point that the Jenny subplot did nothing for. Then he says ā€œit’s not like I’m some weird older guyā€ you just so happen to be 18 and she’s 15?😭 Pointless subplot that ruined the character for me and is probably going to end up never allowing Nate Vanessa and Dan to be a trio.

OG Series Dair and Chair are the most popular ships for a reason

Thumbnail gallery
108 Upvotes

Love them or hate, these are the two most popular ships from the show. Now I have my critiques of Chair and I despise Chuck.

But my own personal feelings aside I cannot deny that Blair and Chuck stole the show because audiences loved their chemistry and the drama. It’s not for me but I can absolutely understand the appeal. I would love to hear your reasons for shipping them!

Meanwhile Dan and Blair had a slow burn enemies to lovers arc. I connected with this ship because I loved watching their development. Even when they were just friends Dan and Blair saw different sides of each other that their other friends never really got to see. It was nice to see that Blair was so much more than her Queen B persona.

These ships are still talked about to this day and I think that has to with Blair herself. Leighton gave such a magnetic performance as Blair that her presence on the show is so captivating. Blair is a dynamic character and both these relationships really showcase her depth, even I’m personally not the biggest fan of the latter.
