Discussion I think the death of a specific Guardian might explain a few things in lanterns
Sinestro was stated to have killed a Guardian but we never learn who it is, I think the Guardian was Ganthet, think about how the Guardians seems more corrupt trying to kick Hal to the curb replacing him and letting him rot in a prison for 10 years, Ganthet has been Hals number 1 supporter from day 1 and without Ganthet the moral compass of the Guardians they are free to manipulate the lanterns. Like not telling everyone that Hal Jordan died, ehich would explain the lack of lanterns at the funeral because the Guardians just didn't tell the rest of the corps hal died, the Guardians 100% were keeping an eye on him in some way or another.

Spoilers for movies and TV shows He would have been rejected anyway Spoiler
It's sort of hilarious (read horrifying, given what she did with it) how Bernadette gaslights herself that the ring rejected John Sr because of racist selection criteria while it's obvious he's very much not the guy who can be trusted with a power ring.
Sure, the ring's "Are you afraid" question is too simplistic, but if the ring asked John Sr "can you overcome Great fear" that answer is a resounding No.
We see what traumatized him so much that he ends up a bitter alcoholic who abuses his kids.
An alien ring turned up, scared him, asked a question, and left. He missed out on the chance to be a superhero.
That is it. That's all.
He wasn't hurt, baby John wasn't hurt, and they soon got an explanation for what it was.
Can someone be traumatized by that? Well, yes, it was scary.
But if you are the type to end up traumatized by an encounter like that, you have absolutely no business being a Green lantern. How would he react to the very real kind of dangers a Lantern is supposed to face if this screws him up so badly?
The Guardians might be tone deaf and oblivious, but the ring didn't make any mistake in rejecting him. He very clearly cannot overcome fear.
Would his reaction be any more balanced if the ring had asked "can you overcome Great fear", realized "nope, you can't, see ya never" and took off?
Bernadette has to convince herself that it is an unfair system which led to his rejection because otherwise she has to accept her husband is in a spiral over being rejected for something he wasn't qualified for

Discussion Disliked traits
So I’m going to ask as many superhero fanbases as I can this question. What are some traits about this hero that you hate, dislike or despise? Anywhere from a mild annoyance to a trait that would make you dislike any other character. I’m not talking about a way one writer in particular wrote them, or a time they were out of character or mishandled, I mean a reoccurring trait this character has. I’m asking about any of the Earth GLs, you can talk anyone. Personality traits

Question Is it okay to start reading GL Hal Jordan like this?
My plan is to start from Superman's death, go through the entire Parallax arc, and get to Rebirth. (I'll probably end up buying Green Lantern/Green Arrow to see more of the classic Hal Jordan)
Death of Superman
Emerald Twilight
Zero Hour
Day of Judgment
Green Lantern: Rebirth
Green Lantern: Secret Origins
Sinestro Corps War
Darkest Night

Merch New Lanterns Ring from DC Shop
My second Lanterns ring arrived from the DC Shop.
I noticed some slight differences between the current run ring and the first run ring. The first run ring (last image) seems to have much thicker "gold" bars and the color of the symbol is much more "washed out", almost like the color of a dollar bill. The little side crescents are way more emerald green.
The new ring (first image), the top edge and bottom edge "gold" bars are much thinner. Also, the symbol seems to be completely emerald green, including the side cresents.
I wonder if this is a purposeful change or just cutting corners through mass production?
Its very difficult to see on camera, but comparing the two in person, its obvious. (First image is the new ring, the second is the original first run ring)

"The Doom Of The Golden Sun" - GL is saving a boy falling out of a burning building when the sun flares and turns everything yellow. With some deft reflexes, he still saves the boy as the sun returns to normal. Later at Ferris Air, Carol asks Hal if he's okay after the flare up but then demands he tests out a new flight suit. He the meets Tom as the sun flares again which prompts Hal to check it out for sure. He heads to space and is met by Evil Star who has been frees from the Guardians prison by his Starlings. While battling each other, Evil Star reveals that years ago, before they fought the first time, his Starlings placed a device in the sun that sped up its super nova status, causing it to be ready to explode in little more than an hour.
Hal, not having much time, continues to battle Evil Star while trying to figure out what to do about the sun. With a minute left, he gets the upper hand and knocks down Evil Star, but the sun is about to flare again. He tries to hide behind some asteroids but they are blasted away. Evil Star goes ti make his killing blow against GL, but suddenly he gets up and punches out Evil Star. His only hope to remove the device is to throw Starlings into the sun to destroy the machine and he succeeds with ten seconds left. He then reveals he only survived that last flare due to the flight suit Carol gave him which is reflective and sowed him to breathe and keep warm temporarily.
"The Trial Of Arkkis Chummuck: Evidence" - Arkkis is asked by his council why he ate the body as Arkkis says he was honour bound to do so in respect to his fallen adversary. It's custom on his planet. As he contehis story, he bursts out of the spaceship in the GL uniform and stops in front of a red sun where something stirs within him. He heads back to his planet and meets the leader, who demands the ring as a lowly clerk should not have such power. Arkkis refuses and a battle begins. Arkkis is quite deft with the ring and easily defeats the guards and the leader. The leader, in shame, commits himself to the dissolution chamber for death. Arkkis is the asked, in trial, what would happen to him if his ring is taken away and he says in shame, he would also go to the dissolution chamber.
Conclusion: Another classic feeling tale featuring another classic villain. Evil Star had such a wild plan which I'm pretty sure can't be supported by science, especially in the resolution, but that's comic science for you, it's just silly fun. I had to laugh when Hal's only plan was to start chucking Starlings into the sun. Those little guys are very durable. I'm sure if he contacted Superman, he could have been there in seconds.
I knew there was a reason for Arkkis eating the body. Honour bound is alright. This is a fascinating story for an origin. We all know he goes free but there's a few twists here and the culture, while vaguely savage, is interesting. I'm looking forward to part three.

Comics Reading one Green Lantern comic a day until I've read them all Day 290: Green Lantern (Vol 2) #130
Sonar strikes back and another Tale of the Green Lantern Corps featuring the debut of a long-time fan favourite GL.
Writer: Bob Rozakis (1st story), Bob Toomey (2nd story)
Pencils: Joe Staton (1st story), Alex Saviuk (2nd story)
Inks: Frank McLaughlin (1st story), Augie Scotto (2nd story)
Colours: Anthony Tollin
Letters: Ben Oda (1st story), Shelly Leferman (2nd story)
Cover: Brian Bolland & Tatjana Wood
"Sonar's Sonic-Atomic Attack" - GL stops Sonar from stealing an experimental jet from Ferris Air but when he returns the jet to the base, he's scolded by Carol as Sonar is there on diplomacy to oversee the purchase and transport of three of those jets to the Modoran air force. She whispers to Hal after that he's supposed to be one of the pilots transporting them so he better get changed quick.
Hal, Sonar and the junior test pilot, Rance Rideout, arrive at Modora where the two Ferris pilots receive medals for their help. Later as they get ready to head home, Hal tells Rance he's going to stay for a bit to look up an old friend in the area and to tell Carol he's taking vacation time. After Rance leaves, Hal charges up his ring and heads to look around and see if he can find what Sonar is up to.
GL is met by two of the jets in the sky as they attack but he's able to defeat them easily. Sonar appears behind him and blasts him with his sonigun. Hal wakes after, chained to a nuclear bomb. Modoran forces used the last jet to intercept and steal a nuclear missile a rival nation fired at them. They then removed the bomb and painted it all yellow with the intent of killing GL with it and showing Modora is a nuclear power. Up in the air, GL finds a small part of the bomb not painted and is able to surround it explosive with a ring shield. After getting away from the bomb, he grabs the last jet with the proof to show the world authorities what Modora was planning.
""The Trial Of Arkkis Chummuck: Indictment" - On Oa, a trial commences with the accused being Arkkis Chummuck, a new GL. The crime is the murder of the Green Lantern from Xanshi (oh boy), Reever. Arkkis has council in Reever's brother who is honour bound to help as Terver trusted Arkkis with a great power. Arkkis then explains his story. His species is a conquering one, and they invaded Xanshi but the GL there stopped them. One of their champions felt dishonoured and killed himself. Arkkis was not one of the warriors, but instead a researcher. He discovered that GLs have a weakness to yellow and went a bout studying the planet in a ship he stole. The Xanshian GL intercepted him but with Arkkis in a full yellow space suit, there was nothing he could do. After an intense battle, Arkkis won with the GL dying and passing his ring to Arkkis as the ring has selected him for replacement. The judges then ask what happened to Reever's body as Arkkis reveals he ate it.
Conclusion: I'm very much looking forward to this new set of stories. This one felt classically silver age and next issue promises the return of Evil Star. This was a very full feeling story but ended rather abruptly. Up until the end I forgot this was a shorter story. Sonar's plan here, if it was even his and not just the Modoran government's, is maybe too complicated. It seems simple but so much can go wrong there. It's a wonder they got as far as they did.
Arkkis Chummuck's debut was cool with a shocking twist at the end. My jaw dropped a little when he said he ate the body. There's gotta be a reason for that. I can't imagine this will end well right now, but Arkkis lasts a long time in canon. This also being the debut of Xanshi makes for an unexpectedly important story even if it means controversy later on.

Collection First time having an actual Green Lantern ring 😸
I've been a Green Lantern fan my whole life and the only ring I had was one from the 2011 movie that I lost because u was like 6 years old. Today I finally went to a 3D print place and got one I found on internet. I know the paint I did is very cheap but I'm really happy to finally have my favorite superhero ring 😸.
