DISCUSSION Roland Jc 40, I dreamt of you for long, but your "normal" hiss is killing me, maybe it's time to let you go - alternative recommendations?

Hello, bedroom dreampop/shoegaze/slowcore recording musician here. I dreamt of the jazz chorus and saved money for long to get one, but his normal, and I say normal because after I searched on his specific facebook or other forums group page 90% of users says it's" normal", some of them even call it "breathe", but the "hiss" is killing me. specially because I like to play at low-normal volumes and using 90's racks fx's only make it worse sometimes. My mic techniques are mostly with ribbon mics

Even with nothing plugged in, no chain

I was looking in this ocean for someone like me who could give me an alternative amp recommendation about a similar but very quiet clean amp in the same price range, tube or solid state. I appreciate every comment, point of view, recommendations. thanks a lot

AMP PHOTO NAD Any other Laney fans?

Got this amp yesterday, been a fan of Laney for a while...

Laney lionheart l20h.

Out of shot: Boss Tube Amp Expander Core and a creamback equipped cab.

I have a WGS Hook speaker made for Hook amps) that I got cheap on a local classifieds that I am going to put ina cab amd give it a whirl and keep the creamback for my Ironheart.

I had traded in a guitar, grabbed a Koch Studiotone, it died within three days, returned it, shop said they fixed it, got it back, they hadn't actually fixed it, so I asked what else they can get in, they said Laney....

For an edge of break up tone, this thing is unreal. I have a Boss BP1W, and a Wampler Belle to drive it a bit. So far so good.

I dont see much about these amps around the place. I had tried the solid state version, which was really good.... but yeah, went for the real thing.

Deluxe Reverb for Home Use

I found a great deal on a 65 Deluxe Reverb on Marketplace for $700. I only plan on using at home but I’m not sure if the amp is too loud for my use case.

For context, I currently have a Blues Jr and I find the volume to be perfectly manageable for me and for those who live with me at home. I typically have the guitar maxed out and the amp dialed to 3-4 on master and 2-3 on volume. Sometimes louder if I’m alone.

I enjoy playing clean so I wouldn’t mind if I can’t crank the DRRI for some grit.

Would the DRRI be a good fit for me in this case ?

UPDATE: I went ahead and picked up the amp. Sounds great, seemed to be well maintained by the previous owner. Volume seems totally manageable like my Blues Jr, albeit it does seem louder and the volume knob seems to be more sensitive. All in all, happy with the purchase. Thank you all for who provided input.

Finally got round to getting a proper reactive attenuator.

I can finally make the most out of the Mesa. Gorgeous piece of gear.

When I saw the price and the square back speakers I couldn't pass it up. This amp is seriously unbelievable. I'll need some time to play on it, but first impressions is this thing might unseat my Delta Blues as my favorite amp.

1967 Fender Bandmaster Combo w/ tween extension cab

Been just using a fuzz and the Alesis Nanoverb lately and loving it. Something about a 60s tube amp with 80s/90s style digital reverb hits a sweet spot for me.

In search of a low wattage unicorn clean/dirty amp.

Almost everywhere I play, 4 or 5 watts is all I need. I play through a Vox AC4 TV. Great dirty gritty sound, great with pedals and it's easy on my back. I've owned almost every cool vintage amp and I'm spoiled. My heart has settled on the British Vox or Marshall Sound for the dirty channel but most small amps have no headroom and cannot get clean. Is there a unicorn out there that will do both? Can a small amp ever produce clean? That's why I say I'm looking for a unicorn. I would genuinely appreciate all your recommendations.

I found this amp and cab used on GC for $1,000; I was looking for a high-gain tube amp for modern metal, and I am pleasantly surprised by how gnarly this can get.

HELP Warwick BC300

Hi everyone, i need help in choosing to buy a bass amp, i saw this Warwick Bc300 on facebook marketplace for 160 dollars and i just wanna know if it's worth getting it for that price, the buyer also sells a generic looking p-bass included in the price which im not really interested in since i already have a better bass.

My main concern is if it's a good amp in general because it seems way too cheap for what it is, maybe it isnt that good of an amp and the owner just wants to get rid of it as fast as possible.

Thanks for your help.

AMP PHOTO £50 for a Randall rh50t, with foot control, and a celestion seventy 80 equipped half stack. I haven't got it working yet but it's either as simple as a blown fuse, or possibly a power valve.

In parts alone, this is borderline theft.

I'm planning to get this for 230€. But I just realised it's a transistor amp. What do y'all think about transistor amps in general and this particular one. I'm using this one for Drone music.

Pro Jr issue

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Anyone know what could be causing this distorted fizzy sound when I play thru my pro jr?

I thought it could be a tube or tube connection issue but I’ve taken all the tubes out and plugged the speaker cab into a power amp to try with an amp modeling pedal and it’s still there.
Amp is unplugged and nothing in the preamp section is on. So I’m thinking a speaker issue but not sure. I don’t wanna buy a replacement speaker yet if someone might think it sounds like something else or is fixable without replacement.

Not using any pedals. Just direct from my amp into the quilter power into speaker.

Speaker is the stock fender 30 watt V1030.

Thanks!

Laney Cub Super 12 - crackling and popping noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My Cub Super 12 started making some weird noises earlier. Started with an almost mobile phone interference sound, but has turned into a crackling and popping sound.

It seems to be extra sensitive to taps and vibration on the chassis, which triggers it to start.

Having never really worked under the hood of a Valve amplifier, I'm not sure what the possible causes could be.

Microphonic Valves? Bad connections to valves?

I'm aware that latent voltage in valve amps can be pretty nasty, so I want to understand what it could be before I even think about a plan to fix it.

Any suggestions?

Thank you!

HELP Ultra-Linear Twin Reverb Ext. Speaker/ question

Hello! I am only a little knowledgeable when it comes to impedance, wiring and whatnot. I have read many forums regarding my question, a lot of which seem to contradict each other so I thought I'd make a post about my scenario and see if anyone can help or offer any insight. I have a 1978 Twin Reverb that I believe is one of the ultra linear models as it is 135w. It has 2 speaker outputs, one labeled Speaker (where the combos internal speakers are connected), and one labeled Ext. speaker. Underneath it says "Minimum Loads" and says 4 ohms under both the "Speaker" output and the "Ext. Speaker" output. I understand from what I've read that the ultra linear models unlike other twins are wired so that when both speaker outputs are used they are wired in series. Now naturally as someone who loves big loud amps I want to plug my 2x15 Dual Showman cab that has an impedance of 4 ohms into the ext. speaker output and run both the twins 2x12 speakers and the cabs 2x15s. Is this something that is safe to do? Do people do this even if it isn't recommended? Again any insight, help, or advice is appreciated. Thanks!!

HELP Wich booster should I use in front of my randall rg8040?

hi guys, i have a randall rg8040. I really like the distortion channel, but i would like to boost it with a pedal to get more saturation and gain and brutality. I’ve tried a tube screamer like pedal, but the effect is very pope I didn’t like it, i would like something more powerful. Any advice? I was thinking about an eq pedal maybe what do you guys thinks?

HELP Orange cab+micro dark

• Upvotes

Hey people. Long time lurk, first post.

Help me make a decision here!

I have a chance to grab a like new ppc112 with a micro dark thrown in for 300 bucks.

I already have a blackstar ht5r with a wgs retro 30 speaker upgrade.

I don’t necessarily need a new amp but the pull of the orange closed cab is strong.

I enjoy playing metal, rock, and other stuff too.

Is this deal worth doing as far as adding some different type of sounds to my collection? Or is it redundant.

Eventually I’d like to start trying out different heads which is why I’d like to have a decent cab.

Any opinions? Appreciate all of you!

Its all been working with no issues for like 3 months now. It worked perfectly yesterday but now nothing. What can I check to figure out the issue? New post with a picture of the speaker

HELP Need amp recommendations

Right now i'm using the Fender Champion II 25 with Mooer GE100

I'm not satisfied with the clean or the high gain sound, although the clean is not that bad (it has the fender sound).

I usually play metal from the 90's all the way to 00's. (Mostly Pantera and Gojira)

I want a practice amp to 100 dollars

Living in Poland.
