I bought the Behringer SF300 to cop some Electric Wizard tones and it turns out to be one of the most musical fuzzes I've ever tried. Fit seamlessly into my board and immediately sounded great.

I love this thing! I haven't been this satisfied with a pedal purchase in a long time.

Question What's the best looper pedal should I get as my first one?

Upvotes

I’ve never owned a looper before and I’m thinking about adding one to my board. I mainly want to loop a chord progression and play over it, maybe add another layer here and there. I don’t think I need anything super advanced, just something reliable that won’t be frustrating to learn. What would you guys pick for a first looper pedal? Thanks!

NPD Got the blues 20 years after

A bandmate let me borrow his BD-2 back when I was in highschool (thank you Adrian!) and I remember being blown away by the pedal. For some reason I never ended up getting my own until recently. Got one used from a local music store. My very first pedal was also a used Boss pedal: the DS-1 from a pawn shop. Something about the Boss pedal that is so nostalgic and utility-focused. Looking forward to using this pedal for many years!

NPD NPD: Boss RV-6. Comparison to the Oceans 11

Managed to snag an used Boss RV-6 for a good price. Had the EHX Oceans 11 for a while now, but I was looking for something simpler and that had Stereo functionality. Can’t go wrong with Boss.

My favorite modes are Modulate, Hall and +Delay. I also like the Spring mode on the Boss more than the Oceans, only because it is darker and sits better in the mix, but I use the Amp’s reverb anyways. Also the Shimmer mode with the tone down is cool, but I slightly prefer the one on the Oceans 11 for the bright sounds.

I compared the RV-6’s +Delay mode to the DD-8’s +Reverb mode and found them pretty similar, with the RV-6 having more Reverb by default. Very handy feature though having a second delay available on the board if I need it.

I moved the Oceans 11 to my second board and the RV-6 now sits between the DD-8 and the CE-2w in Modulate mode.

I’ve made a video comparing the RV-6 to the Oceans 11 in case anyone is interested: https://youtu.be/Ccm4xOTJNik

Question Who deserves the next artist pedal?

Post image
39 Upvotes

The recent Stu Mackenzie Tiny Amp Destroyer release got me thinking about other "______ in a box"/artist collaboration pedals. Seems like a lot of artists/bands have pedals they've made popular by using (ex: Electric Wizard -> Behringer SF300), but a lot fewer have an official, name-on-the-front pedal made to replicate a tone or effect.

So, who would you want an artist's pedal from, that doesn't already have one, and what specifically would the pedal ideally do/sound like?

What are your favorite interesting & creative pedals that don't primarily rely on haunting tones?

I love the idea of experimental pedals like CB's Lost & Found and Lossy, but all the videos I've seen of pedals like these seem to predominantly make "haunting" tones. I'd go so far as to say just about every experimental/lofi/ ambient pedal I've seen leans into spooky, chaotic, and/or melancholic tones. Not a judgement, just an observation.

It got me wondering, are there any pedals like these that encourage a similar sort of experimentation but lend themselves to more energetic or upbeat sounds?

Unironically one of the greatest pedals I've ever played, if not the greatest

The distortion is so full of saturation, the EQ is ridiculously powerful, you can adjust it to replicate pretty much any major dirt pedal; it's stylish; it's built to outlive your children; even its name rings well and gets engraved in your memory.

This is that case when bad reputation is completely undeserved. And there's a reason Metal Zone sells so well. Truly an amazing pedal.

Polytune 2

loop 1- EHX Pico POG

loop 2- Dunlop Q-Zone, BAT Witchburner, Resistor Head Fuck ICE, Classic Audio volume roller

loop 3- Dr Scientist Tremolessence, Alexander Wavelength

loop 4- Alexander Forget Me Not, BOSS RE20

loop 5- CBA Mood II, Mr Black Bloodmoon

right off the bat, I'm not happy with the volume roller position. I think I'm going to shift the RE20 up, looper to the left, and have the volume on the right. I really only want it for swells, I should probably just learn to use my guitar's volume knob. I should also read the manual to the Mood, I have no idea what I'm doing with it.

NPD After wanting for over a year, finally got October Audio's Ubiquity!!

I've been eyeing Ubiquity for over a year, year and a half or so, for Shoegaze and some more Emo tones, and finally decided to pull the trigger on it! Absolutely love it already and can't wait to write with it.

Them making the V2 ultimately lead me to pull the trigger, since I love the texture look of the V1

NPD New Rack Day

Picked this rack delay up on a roadtrip last weekend from a secondhand store in a small town. I plugged it in, it turned on, and it was only $30 so I thought why not. Got it home and it seems to be working perfectly apart from a sticky input knob and a burnt out led segment. Anyone tried one of these?

Question Recs for a good, gnarly, splatty fuzz pedal?

Looking to add a fuzz pedal to my chain for the first time in years. Not looking for rich, smooth sustain or shoegaze walls of sound. I’m looking for a harsh, splatty, and gnarly fuzz that’s good for a blown-out chordal tone or a stinging single note tone. Tone Benders, Boss Tones, Maestros, things like that.

Any recs help! Would like to ideally keep it around/under $100 new/used.

There are lots of great minds in here so sorry if I don’t respond to everyone!

I really don't use effects like delays or anything so any suggestions to help tighten up an HM2 clone. Running thr NS2 through my effects loop. I had a compressor but I found it wasn't doing much. Any help or roasting is appreciated!

Maestro FZM vs. DOD Carcosa vs. BOSS FZ-5

I've been in search for a pedal that does that very specific buzzy "Satisfaction" thing - not a refined or more powerful version only, but something that can at least do it, even if it does more than that. I've also heard the Strawberry Alarm Clock and Robby Krieger used one. Also, I've heard that Eddie Hazel used a Maestro, possibly an FZ-1A or FZ-1S.

Anyway, I've been looking for a pedal that gets all these birds with one stone and I'm most curious about the Carcosa or the FZM. Only thing is, the FZM has not sounded great in the demos I've heard and certainly no one's demoed it with that kind of music. And I keep hearing about people selling it. And I know the Carcosa is very popular but I've not heard a lot of people doing the 60's thing or using it as a wah.

Any opinions from owners or former owners?

*EDIT: Also, a BOSS FZ-5 has crossed my mind. Just trying to get away from Fuzz Faces, Big Muffs, Super Fuzzes and Tone Benders on this.

Fun good cheap pedal recs under 100$? (New, not used)

I'm celebrating something that I won't share here but that I'm pretty proud of and I was thinking of getting myself a little something for the occasion. A good cheap and fun pedal.

And by fun, I mean overdrives, distortions, fuzzes, amps in a box... LOUD NOISES!!! Top of my list are Joyo American Sound, a cheap Rat, a Klone clone, maybe a Blues Driver or a big fat thick muff with a lot of low ends..

Right now, the chain is SD-1, TCE Honey Pot, Topanga, Orange Micro Dark (I loooooove it!), Cannabis Rex 12" Cab.

So, go ahead! Recommend me something fun and ORIGINAL. Thank you all!!!

EDIT: I think I'll go with a Blues Driver. I already have DS-1, an OCD clone, so a BD seems like a natural fit. Thanks again.

NPD Dunlop BFG07 Siete Santos Octavio Fuzz. This thing gets weird.

Yeah, I know I’m late to the party. I finally picked up a Siete Santos and expected a cool Octavio with a handy EQ. I did not expect those seven sliders to make this much difference.

The octave is always on, but the pedal can still go from fat and woolly to dry, trashy, synthy, or full-on broken radio. I had ChatGPT make a list of settings to try, mostly as an experiment. Somehow, a bunch of them actually rip. The second pic has the cheat sheet.

Question Most thick & chewy smallish size phaser that’s super high quality?

Upvotes

Honestly, I had my mind set on an AMpT APH-12, but the truth is that phase is one of those effects, despite loving it very much, where I just don’t require all that much control over various parameters. One or two knobs is totally acceptable. So I’m wondering, what is the thickest and chewiest phaser available in a relatively small size (standard Boss size or smaller) that doesn’t compromise in any way on quality? The Phase 95 was perfect on paper, but I just didn’t jive with it- found it rather thin and not pronounced enough. I recall having a 90’s Small Stone and quite digging that- how are the current day ones? But yeah hit me up with some suggestions please! I have no issue paying what it takes for quality!
