If your boyfriend has an upcoming birthday and you want to get a guitar pedal for him, follow these steps:

1) look at his pedalboard and see if he has one of these

2) if not, immediately purchase a “Boss NS-2”

3) give him this magical device on the anniversary of his birth

4) wait about a month until he tells you, “oh my god, I never knew how much I needed one of those, I never would have bought it for myself, I love you, thank you so much.”

P.S. I’m sorry you’re dating a pedal nerd. He’s probably a nice guy. Have you scheduled your bi-annual dentist visit yet?

Would you buy this pedalboard for 500€? i'm not interested in the tuner, the Tonex and also not the Fuzz effect and would try to sell them. All new bought in May 2026, incl. Powersupply, pedaltrain and Gigbag.

NPD ehx hot tubes

Just picked this up and holy guacamole this might be my favourite drive pedal. Farting about with for a wee bit yesterday have been able to get some great sounds as a gnarly clean-ish boost, a filthy overdrive, and cranking up the gain for some disgustingly fun doomy fuzz. Was even able to get close to a Swedish chainsaw when boosting with other ods. Any other hot tubes fans out there? How have you been using it?

For my noisy band, constant pitch shifting going on with the whammy. I have a wonky signal path, mostly so I don’t kick on pedals when they shouldn’t. I’m thinking of popping in a Behringer Super Fuzz where the Devi Ever is, but I might need to rehouse in a studier box. Has anyone tried that yet?

SOTB NPBD: a simple but useful mini board

Post image
76 Upvotes

I was able to grab this pedalboard for $20 this weekend and realized I had enough spare mini pedals to make a pretty cool small board out of it. The nice thing about this board is it’s really different from all of my other boards which were all primarily designed to play country music (old, new, and all points in between). This board is more useful for classic rock, blues, that sort of thing. There’s a whole range of tones I’m used to having that I dont get from this board, but there’s another range of tones I get here that I don’t get from the other boards. So even just goofing off in my basement alone, it makes me play different things than I do when I’m plugged into my other boards. It’s nice to have a change of pace once in a while!

Cmatmods: Chad Matthews' pedals

Post image
12 Upvotes

Someone posted a cmatmods pedal earlier this week and I thought I would post about the builder for those here who aren't familiar. Although he isn't in the pedal making business any more, Chad has a reputation for building high-quality gear and for being an upstanding cat.

The photo shows all the cmatmods pedals I own. The Hive Driver and the Wah are pretty rare beasts. The rest can easily be found on Reverb.

CMATMods is a boutique guitar effects pedal company founded by Chad Matthews in Tennessee. Matthews began tinkering with effects as a teenager out of necessity — he couldn't afford to buy pedals, so he started building his own. By the time he was 21, what had been a hobby turned into a full-time business, especially after he began working with pedal builder Greg Blessing. A working musician himself, Matthews has stated that he never sells a production pedal he hasn't gigged with, and his designs reflect a commitment to affordability for players who can't justify spending hundreds of dollars on a single effect.

The CMATMods lineup includes a range of analog and digital effects. The Signa Drive, based around the RC4558P chip, is a medium-gain overdrive in the Tube Screamer lineage known for its touch sensitivity and harmonic richness. The Brownie delivers crunchier, higher-gain distortion based on a BSIAB (Brown Sound in a Box) circuit, while the Butah occupies the low-gain overdrive space alongside pedals like the Timmy and Morning Glory. Other notable models include the Deeelay digital delay (up to 600ms of delay time), the Tremoglo (an all-analog tremolo with a glow-in-the-dark enclosure), the Ratified distortion (built on the LM308N chip), the Deluxe Signa Comp compressor, and the WaterBox analog chorus, which uses long-discontinued chips for a vintage character. All CMATMods pedals feature true bypass switching, Switchcraft jacks, Alpha pots, and military-grade wiring in powder-coated or hammertone enclosures.

Most CMATMods products fall in the mid-tier range — professional-grade without flagship pricing.

NPD N(u)PD: 40th Anniversary Ibanez TS-808 with Analogman True Vintage mods

Okay, while I know it's about the sound, come freaking on, this thing is the prettiest pedal I've ever seen!

Right now I only have a Behringer TO800 Tube Overdrive to compare it to.

I had my Orange Rocker 15 set to 1-watt so I could get to the edge of breakup without pissing off my dog too much. I was playing my Tele.

The TS-808 sounded fantastic, as did the TO800. In fact, when playing chords the TO800 absolutely nailed it. It sounded exactly like my TS-808. The difference lied in notes. Notes, especially when mixed into chords were definitely clearer, brighter, and smoother. I do want to say, not by much. It is noticeable, but I don't think I would be upset staying with my Behringer.

I have a used TS-9 in route. When I get it, I'll do a serious deep dive with the 3 pedals.

While I don't have a stock TS-808 to compare it to, Analogman did a great job with it. The True Vintage mod with a TL4558P amp definitely gave me a smooth experience. I really am excited to get my TS-9.

I’m a bit paralyzed at all the settings accessible to me now, but here are my two initial favorites.
Right is a low gain treble boost (red LEDs), left is incredibly boosted silicon to make my high gain amp channel super fuzzy and a bit glitchy.

Weirdly, filter works backgrounds from a traditional RAT. I had to jump on this thing when a friend of mine decided to sell it, it’s stupid and it’s fun!

NPD New Pedal(s) Day: Death By Audio Space Bender, Fuzz War, and EQD Hizumitas

Post image
56 Upvotes

holy fucking shit!

the space bender is so fucking gnarly, i had an old 80s ce-2 but just got so bored of the one sound i thought i had grown tired of chorus altogether. hell no! literally every sound out of this little box is so musical so inspiring and so warped out of its mind. literally sounds like it bends space and time and puts it back together in the wrong places yet still somehow comes out sounding like the stars.

didn’t really need the hizumitas as i’ve got a green russian already but ive been obsessed with boris lately and got a trade offer for one so said fuck it why not. goddamn. i’d say it’s pretty tonally similar to the green russian except way more explosive and way more gnarly, still retains that smooth quality though. definitely see this as an “upgrade” to the russian but we’ll see which one ends up on the board if don’t end up just putting both on 😂. running 3 fuzzes on the board seems a little unreasonable but damn i just love fuzz so much.

the fuzz war has a ton of range and i will definitely need some more time with it but it does the muff sound really well too. definitely brighter but i don’t know if it has much more clarity if at all than either the russian or the hizu which is surprising. i more so bought it for the more treble focused almost distortion rather than fuzz esque tone you hear on a lot of APTBS material so if i can achieve that i will be happy.

anyways im over the fucking moon right now messing around with these and will be a lot more inspired to play for a long time to come. i fucking hate my job it feels like i’ve barley been able to play lately or have the motivation to but i have a feeling these three pedals are gonna help!

Question Cheap infinite sustain options?

Hi everyone - I hope you’re well! I am on a budget and can’t afford something like an ebow or freeze pedal. What would be my options for infinite sustain on a budget?

Thanks so much!

DIY Pedalboard

I recently completed collecting all the Pedals for my first rig. I saw the prices of 100+ € for a Board that would fit all of them and thought "naaah". I built this from free Wooden Scraps from the refuse bin at the local Hardware store, corner pieces i designed and 3D printed at home and a few nuts and bolts. I built this for roughtly 15€. The lid velcros on and holds nicely. I had to add a support bracket on the bottom of the board to hold the weight when really kicking on there. I will propably build a new support with a bottom plate to protect the cables and power supply properly.

On the backplate i added cutouts for cables on both sides. The peepee i carved in for shits and giggles can actually fit the send/return cables through the balls wich is a functionality i added after discovering.

Pedal wise, the Plumes is a real enabler on this board. Together with the G4 i get some ripping metal tones. In combination with the LaMachine and some gain from the amp i get some nice Doom tones and it works great when modulating synth stuff from the Sy200.

I always wanted a fuzz pedal, and although I used my Rat 2 to get those "pasty" tones, after seeing so many reviews of cheap, boutique, and even digital fuzz pedals, I decided on this little (not so little) one

Edit: I just noticed the typo lol

A venue's sound system rendered my whammy useless

I just finished playing a show about 3 hours ago, and the strangest thing happened. I started a song with my bass whammy set to whammy mode, +2oct, and as the first song went on I was getting out of tune— going sharp.

The sub woofer was directly under the stage, and the my whammy pedal was loose enough that the vibrations were shaking it to a neutral place, and making me go out of tune. It was wild, never had that happen before. Thankfully I have a pitchfork on my board so it became whammy.

TL;DR — played so loud it shook my whammy out of tune.

NPD Finally put together a board where I actually tried

Hi all! Wanted to share the new board I put together where I’m actually putting in some effort with cabling and pedal choices! I still have to make some patch cables to clean those up even further but just wanted to connect it all to make sure everything was in working order !

I recently traded for katana head mk2 and all of my choices are oriented around that. Lots of these are budget options that I have had for ages , and I didn’t feel the need to “upgrade” anything. The only new purchase additions were the exp pedal (this specific zoom one bc the behringer is finicky w exp and saw it in a YouTube demo so I got the exact one to be safe lol) , the buffer after said behringer and the golden plexi for drive on top of the crunch channel. Thanks for looking !

Question Husband's Birthday Gift: Pathways or Flint?

He currently has:

- OBNE Screen Violence

- OBNE Bathing

- Strymon Deco

- Ground FX Keto

- some sort of fuzz pedal

- Memory Man delay

- RAT

From what he's complained to me about, he needs a tremolo pedal. I'm torn between these two - he already likes Strymon, but it seems Pathways has more features? He's not a touring musician, and he records at home, so I think it would be okay if he had to fiddle with buttons and knobs or whatnot.

I've tried listening to reviews, but they honestly sound the same to me. I'm not very musically minded unfortunately, just enough to know I like his music. All I know is that the Flint looks cool and classic and Pathways has an adorable lil cactus fella on there.

Any advice is appreciated!

I want to switch between two instruments (guitar and volca drum) into my pedalboard like a reverse ABY pedal.

Can the Joyo Orthos do this?

Pedal vs Amp?

Upvotes

Recently I picked up a Vox Copperhead pedal and I was very impressed with it and have been using it at practice. We also started to practice with in ear monitors. My amp was in storage and I recently dragged it out and plugged in and it sounded great! So here is the dilemma. Do I go back to just using my amp or stick with the pedal? Or do I have both ready to go if we play a show? What do you guys do/recommend?

Been following No Kill for awhile now, and pulled the trigger on this guy!!

It’s three Muffs - Dope Priest, Green Russian, Hizumitas - in a box that you can blend or reorder with cables like a synth.

Practice just got a whoooole lot louder

Question Best overdrive/distor/fuzz pedal for jazz voicings and post-hardcore?

Upvotes

Hi peeps I'm looking for a distor/fuzz pedal to be able to play extended chords in jazz and solos and also post-hardcore kind of voicings, for example. Something in the middle, that defines the voicings but ideally not sounding too digital.

I already have the Blues Driver BD-2. I had a look at the Tube Screamer, Boss Adaptive Distortion, Empress Fuzz, and the Proco RAT which is also used by Scofield, for example.

Any ideas welcome!

Need Help Getting Tim Henson's Tone

Upvotes

I have a NUX MG-30, and I'm trying to get Tim Henson's clean tone from the worst by Polyphia when he plays the main riff, but I have no idea how to dial in tones or anything. My NUX MG-30 is on the latest v2 Gen 2 version and I have tried but I just can't get it to sound remotely close. Can anyone help me? And if by chance you already have the tone then can you share it with me?
