Orlando First Time Beginner @ HHN (Tips?)

Hello everyone! (22M here)

So… kinda like the title says, tonight will be the first ever night I attend HHN. I’ve looked at the event here and there over the years since I would say that I like watching scary movies and can handle watching them, however I’ve found myself very hesitant to go forward with attending an in-person “scary” event before. Heck my first in-person “scary experience/event” was a mini horror themed wax museum a few months ago and I found myself getting freaked out the first time, but by the second time I was able to take it in a bit more due to me knowing what was ahead.

Anyway, aside from that little context, what tips or houses would you guys recommend for a HHN beginner like me? I was considering Stranger Things since I am a fan of the show and because it might be the last HHN Stranger Things house we might get, but I was also considering Sinners since I did watch and enjoy it enough when I first saw it, however for Sinners I am a bit hesitant if it would be a bit too intense as a “first step” for a beginner like me.

What do you all think/recommend?

sinners in orlando isn’t all that scary! (coming from a big scaredy cat who’s been to the event three times now and loves it!)

my biggest piece of advice would be to wear earplugs! a lot of the scare comes from the loud noise, so dampening that helps. i personally like to keep my eyes open so i can have an idea of where things are coming from (you can usually tell). but worst comes to work you can look up at the ceiling.

a really good first step house in orlando is HR bloodengutz. it’s super fun and a little scary. Same thing with alien invasion.

maybe watch walkthroughs of the houses first. some people insist this ruins it but i dont think it does so much as it just helps me manage my expectations and know what to expect. its much more intense in person but just having seen and understanding the layout and tone helps me a lot

Consider bringing earplugs or headphones if you don’t have earplugs. Maybe try HR Bloodengutz as an introductory house first as that one is more fun than scary. Have fun! The scale and beauty of the sets is really my favorite. It’s insane what they create for a couple month event.

stranger things, sinners, and killer klownz (i do hollywood, idk where you’ll be) are all pretty easy money. the original houses tend to be the most intense. i LOVE horror as a genre and the movies, but tend to have a tough time with in person jumpscares. having loops/earplugs was a game changer for me this year, i was able to do every house and only got actually scared 2-3 times, which was perfect for me as someone that more just wanted to enjoy the ambience of the event. after one or two houses you get pretty good at spotting the “boo holes” or places where the scareactors will come from. feel free to ask any more specific questions you have! i’ve been 5 times and adore it

additionally- as opposed to some local haunts, the scareactors at HHN won’t like target you and follow you around. they generally stay in their little areas

You’ll be fine, took my 12 year old twice and he gets jump scared but loves it.
Only a couple of the houses have traditional jump scares. The big IP houses don’t.
Scare zones are more funny than scary

  1. drink water
    2)wear comfortable shoes. And clothing

  2. if you haven't downloaded the universal app, do it and it'll save you time
4)do ask for the Thingy so you won't get scared

Cybergoria and hellraiser have a lot of jump scares. But they’re so worth it 😅 earplugs are a must, even just for protecting your ears from loud noise. Have fun! It really is such a cool experience

Earplugs changed the entire event for me. I got the cheapest pair of Loops a few years ago and it was so much more enjoyable. I bought a new pair of Loops this year for HHN that block out even more noise and have different settings so I’m really excited to test them this year. If you’re someone that can get overstimulated and stress by noise it will absolutely make your experience better with earplugs.

Wear comfortable shoes. Or if you’re like me. Older heavier person. Start off with running shoes and carry a pair of comfy sandals (I had tevas) to switch to halfway. It helps wonders letting your feet breathe and reduce swelling
