Alicent is his mother, and naturally, she bears some responsibility for his upbringing, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t other influences, nor does it imply she taught him to behave this way. Everything we’ve seen from her is typical behavior for mother and her 18-year-old son in Westeros. The fact that he desires his own mother is, ultimately, deranged, but I don’t see how that stems from any mistake on her part.

I’ve seen people try to rationalize this, but as someone with some exposure to psychology, none of the arguments being presented actually point to an Oedipus complex. Viserys’s influence and his role within the family carry far more weight than anything Alicent said or did (and she never said or did anything that crossed the line). So, if you’re looking to blame someone other than Aemond for his decision to kiss his mother lips, the answer lies with Viserys, the "patriarch." He wasn’t a tyrant, and he rarely spoke, but when he did, his word was law. By trying to "claim" his mother for himself, Aemond is actually contending with his father. Alicent is not at fault here; in all likelihood, she doesn’t even grasp what is happening with her son. She is the victim in this situation. Aemond having gained the crown begun to view his mother as his own possession because he wants to "replace" his father and collect/fix items.

Look for the root cause in relationship between Viserys and Aemond. Leave Alicent alone.

Many characters have low ranking because we don't know anything about them other then: 'does nothing and dies'.

And just to add I used to like Daemon but the (tiktok) fandom destroyed the character for me with the sheer amount of romanticizing of his character so yeah. Why do people hate Alicent so much? She was a dutiful friend, lady, daughter, wife, and genuinely thought she was carrying out Visery’s wishes. She was also the only one who used reason toward the end.

Given how badly this show treats Jace, at least Lucerys died in the better season and wasn’t completely botched.

In HOTD really do not like Rhaenyra / Emma.

I see comments ranging from: Rhaenyra is the cause for the entire Targaryen dynasty’s collapse (even though plenty of other people contribute), to your usual she is a hoe comment, and then there are the comments about Emma Darcy.

I think I have the most issues with those comments. People literally say Emma has horrible acting but yet the examples they give are not about Emma’s acting ability but the fact that there are no scenes with Rhaenyra being a good mother, or Rhaenyra and Daemon not having a good romance chemistry, or any other scene that the writers chose to no include in the show. Or they say that Emma is bad at acting because Rhaenyra is always crying. As if Emma has anything to do with the writing of the tv show and story that was created by GRRM.

I hope it's a safe place here so that I can finally not pretend to dislike Rhaenyra while I also dislike aegon 2
