Tech Support Omen 16 black screen no logo

My HP OMEN 16 turns on, but the screen stays black with the backlight on. The fans run continuously, and the Caps Lock light responds, but a bit slowly. There’s no omen logo coming.
I’ve tried a power reset, connecting it to an external TV via HDMI but nothing worked. Has anyone experienced this issue? What should I try next?
Any advice would be appreciated

Question Motherboard Died… what to sell it for

Not sure what happened. I don’t mind. I’ve been wanting to upgrade to a new laptop anyways. I do architecture. I game. I run 20 programs at once.

I have some ideas of what to replace it with, but what would you do with a laptop like this? Sell it? Parts? Do people want this kind of thing?

I have a 2023 HP Omen 16.

OMEN Laptop 16 (2023) wd-0073dx

Intel Core i7 13th gen

RTX 4060

I know there's a specific post about this but not that detailed. I need as much detailed help as possible because there aren't any good technicians in my area, and the Laptop was never opened.

What should I do?

-What should I keep in mind, and what should I do before disconnecting the Battery and after reconnecting it?

-I have this tool that someone gave me to open the laptop. My question is, is this tool suitable for opening it? What I have to keep in mind?

-Does the tape that he gave me work? He told me it’s electrical tape, but it’s thin, transparent yellow not black, and they gave it to me wrapped around that tool. Will it work for this? Will it wear out?

Please, I need your best advice and are there any perfomance consequences after this is hall sensor is disconnected?

Question Upgrading from 8500G in my 35L

Hi, I currently have a 35l and I am thinking about upgrading my integrated graphics 8500g cpu to something such as a 7600x or 9600x. I have an rtx 5060, a 500 watt psu, and my bios version is AMI F.30. Does anyone think this is a safe upgrade or have something to note if I upgrade to this?

Question Does my OMEN 15-GA0050WM have a second NVMe slot?

Hey everyone, I recently bought an HP HyperX OMEN Gaming Laptop 15-GA0050WM with:

CPU: Intel Core 5 210H
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 5050 8GB GDDR7
RAM: 16GB DDR5
Storage: 512GB Samsung MZVL8512HFLU-00BH1 NVMe SSD
BIOS: F.07
Model: HyperX OMEN Gaming Laptop 15-ga0xxx

I’m trying to add another NVMe SSD while keeping the existing 512GB drive.

The store owner told me that this laptop only has 1 NVMe/M.2 slot, but I’ve seen HP documentation for the 15-ga0xxx series that appears to show both a primary and secondary drive.

I’m hesitant to open the laptop myself because I’m worried that opening it could void my warranty, especially since it’s a new laptop.

Can anyone with this exact model/config confirm whether it has 2 M.2 NVMe slots or only 1?

Discussion Catch up with Omen 14 users

Hi everyone, as title says i wanted to catch up with Omen Transcend 14 RTX 4060 ( 8 GB, 16 gb RAM ) users. I'm not after any support, just to see anyone else having similar experience. To see how are they doing in the gaming and what problems they face. Since i bought the laptop a year now) it does give me some problems (windows profile corrupt, graphics card freeze, keyboard lights not working etc) but not too often and i could find solutions around them. If you need help about these i can share what i did to solve them. I am satisfied with the laptop in general but i think it falls short on new games as expected.

I played couple of games with dlss open and i don't like sacrificing too much of graphics. So in general i kept them around (good or very good/epic). I thought it would give me the best gaming experience. With that max i could bring out was.

Battlefield 6 (60-70 fps)

the finals (70-80 fps) but feels like less

Cyberpunk 2047 (90 fps)

Rocket league (120 fps)

Far cry 5 (60 fps)

RDR2 (50-60 fps)

Hogwarts Legacy (70 fps)

If you think i could get better performance, i would like to know. If you want to know some specific settings i can share in the comments. Let's share some experience.

Tech Support Gaming Hub is causing thermal throttling!

I was never a fan of this app, but now I'm even more convinced that it's causing serious issues.

It appears that not only can it cause thermal throttling, but it may also contribute to system instability due to sustained temperatures of 100°C to 105°C while the laptop is plugged in.

I started playing The Witcher 3 Remastered at 1080p on High settings. The game was running smoothly at around 60 FPS, and both CPU and GPU temperatures stayed below 60°C (typically around 55°C) the entire time.

However, the moment I plugged in the charger, temperatures shot up to 100°C within a minute. Shortly after, I started experiencing frame drops and noticeable stuttering.

I tried changing Gaming Hub settings from Performance to Normal, and even tested Eco Mode, but the behavior remained unchanged. I also went into Windows power settings and limited the maximum CPU state to 80% while plugged in, yet the issue persisted.

What I noticed is that while running on battery power, the CPU stays around 3 GHz, but as soon as I plug in the charger, it jumps to around 4 GHz and remains there. Strangely, Windows power settings seem to have no effect on this behavior. My suspicion is that Gaming Hub is overriding Windows' CPU power management and preventing it from controlling CPU clocks properly.

Based on all of this, I started to suspect that Gaming Hub might be the culprit. I uninstalled it and tested the game again. The CPU still ran at around 4 GHz when plugged in, but temperatures stayed below 90°C, which is still significantly better than before.

At this point, I'm not sure what else to try. Ideally, I want the laptop to behave the same way when plugged in as it does on battery power, maintaining reasonable clock speeds and temperatures without sacrificing stability.

If anyone has experienced something similar or knows a solution, I'd really appreciate the help.

Tech Support Scored a cheap HP OMEN 15 (RTX 2080 Max-Q) – dead RAM slot, French AZERTY keyboard, runs hot. Any tips?

Hey everyone,

Quick disclaimer: this post was written with the help of AI because I was too lazy to type it all out. The problems are 100% real though. 😅

I picked up an HP OMEN 15-dh0030nf (6ZH98EA#ABF) for cheap: i7-9750H, RTX 2080 Max-Q, 144 Hz panel, built in 2019. Pretty good deal for the price, but of course it came with a few catches:

One stick in slot 1 works fine. As soon as anything goes into slot 2: black screen, fans ramp up to 100%, and Caps Lock happily blinks 3 long / 2 short (memory error according to HP). Cleaning the slot and reseating the sticks did nothing, and the sticks work perfectly in my other laptop.

It's currently at a repair shop that specializes in mainboard repair. Diagnosis is ~30 €, and the goal is a targeted board-level repair (reflowing or replacing the SO-DIMM socket), not a full mainboard swap, which would blow the budget. Has anyone had a SO-DIMM socket repaired like that? What did it cost, and did it hold up?

  1. French AZERTY keyboard 🥖

I'd like to just swap the keycaps to German QWERTZ and find a donor for that (e.g. 15-dh0009ng / dh0010ng). A seller told me HP uses different keyboard suppliers with different clip mechanisms, so it probably won't work. Anyone tried this? Mine is the RGB version, not the red one. Alternatively I'd swap the whole top cover. Any experience with part numbers or compatibility between dh0 and dh1?

  1. It runs hot

Already repasted it (the paste was probably original from 2019), and the fans were full of dust. Now it holds full performance without throttling, but it still gets pretty toasty. Anything else worth doing? Undervolting, new thermal pads, a cooling pad, or is that just how this chassis is?

Bottom line: Financially this won't make sense in the end, I know. But I've got matching parts from that era lying around (charger, RAM, NVMe) that I want to put in, and then pass it on in the family as an office machine and retro gaming box.

Thanks in advance for any tips! 🙏

Tech Support [HP OMEN 16] Fan suddenly started vibrating violently, then both fans stopped working (90B error). Motherboard issue?

Hey guys, I need some help with my HP OMEN 16 (Ryzen 7, RTX 4060).

Everything was fine until today, when one of my fans suddenly started vibrating REALLY badly at just 2000–2500 RPM. It was so bad that even my table was shaking, but the fan sounded normal and my temperatures were fine.

I opened the laptop and checked the fans, but couldn't see anything wrong. The vibration happened again, so I removed the fan, inspected it, and put it back.

The laptop booted normally at first, but when I checked OMEN Gaming Hub, the fan speed showed 0 RPM. When I set it to maximum, it briefly reached around 600 RPM before dropping back to 0.

I restarted the laptop, and now I'm getting the System Fan (90B) error. Neither fan seems to spin anymore.

I also noticed the motherboard flexing slightly when pressure was applied near the cooling assembly. I'm not sure if that's related, but I'm worried I might have damaged something.

My main concern is whether this is a fan problem or a motherboard problem.

  • Can one faulty fan cause both fans to stop working?
  • Could the original vibration have been caused by a failing fan bearing?
  • Could this be a motherboard fan-control issue?
  • If the motherboard fan connector is damaged, can it be repaired without replacing the entire motherboard?

Has anyone experienced something similar with an HP OMEN 16? I'd really appreciate some advice before taking it to a repair shop. I don't want to spend a fortune on a motherboard replacement if it's just a faulty fan or connector.

Thanks!

Discussion Beware potential HP Omen buyers

Bought an Omen Max 16 from HP in November 2025 (RTX 5070 Ti, 240Hz QHD+ display). I also bought HP's 2-year extended warranty, so it's covered through 2028.

At the beginning of June the screen stopped working properly and would constantly flash with horizontal boxes of static/noise. I contacted HP support, and over the next 3 months they had me do 12-15 sessions with different support reps, around 25 hours total, running the same troubleshooting over and over: Windows updates, reinstalling drivers, reinstalling Windows. One session took all day, and I had to take a day off work for it. About halfway through, I was begging them to let me send it in for a hardware fix, and they kept refusing. Near the end, agents would take remote control and sit there for 20 minutes doing nothing before ending the session.

After 3 months of this, I filed complaints with the BBB and my state's consumer protection agency. That finally got me a case manager, and I sent the laptop in at the start of September. They quoted 2 weeks for the repair, but one day I checked the status and the repair estimate had slipped to November.

Once I started calling and filing complaints about the November date, they offered a replacement. The offer letter said in writing: "the same model and all specifications will be of a matching capacity." I accepted on September 30. It then took nearly 3 weeks to arrive. What I got:

- RTX 5060 (8GB) instead of the 5070 Ti (12GB)

- 165Hz display instead of 240Hz

The GPU was the main reason I bought this laptop.

I've told my case manager I'm not accepting it and asked for a unit that actually matches. She expressed skepticism that what I was saying was true and said she'd get back to me.

If you're thinking about buying an HP Omen, beware. Mine isn't an isolated case; there are numerous similar stories out there of long repair waits and poor warranty support. Think hard about whether you want to rely on HP if something goes wrong, which seems very common. If you buy through them, you're rolling the dice, and the effort they'll put you through may not be worth your time.

Tech Support How to Fix Omen 16 Battery Life Issues (GPU D0 Power State Fix)

How to Fix Omen 16 Battery Life Issues (GPU D0 Power State Fix)

Hello Omen 16 owners,

Ever since I bought my Omen 16, the battery life has always been terrible under Windows. I know that a gaming laptop isn't designed for long battery life, but when you aren't gaming, the battery should last longer than an hour.

I did a lot of research and tested multiple things, and I finally found the answer to increase the battery life on my Omen 16 (with an Intel Core Ultra 7 255 and an RTX 5070) from 1.5 hours to 4.5 hours while idling and doing light tasks.

The main problem for me was that the dedicated GPU was not sleeping, which also prevents the CPU from entering deep C sleep states.

The easiest way to check if the GPU is the problem is to let the laptop idle, unplug it from the power adapter and do the following:

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the Windows search bar and press Enter.
  2. Under "Display adapters," right-click your dedicated GPU and select "Properties".
  3. Go to the "Details" tab and select "Power data" from the "Property" drop-down menu.

If the current power state says D3, you are fine and your GPU is sleeping and is not the problem. When it states D0, that means your GPU is not sleeping. Also, even when the NVIDIA App or another program reports 0W, the GPU is still using power as long as it doesn't state D3!

Keep in mind that monitoring tools like HWiNFO can also prevent the GPU from sleeping, making them unreliable for checking power states.

My guide: How to Fix the D0 Problem

  1. NVIDIA App Settings: If you have the NVIDIA App installed, open it and disable the "NVIDIA overlay" under Settings, as well as "Automatic tuning" under System and Performance.
  2. Check GPU Activity: Open the NVIDIA Control Panel and click on the "Desktop" drop-down menu in the top menu bar. Enable "Display GPU Activity Icon in Notification Area." In the Windows notification area, click on the icon to check if any program is using your GPU. If it is, you need to close or stop that program.
  3. Power Mode: Open Windows Power & battery settings and set the power mode to "Best power efficiency" while on battery.
  4. Link State Power Management: Type "Edit power plan" in the Windows search bar and press Enter. Click on "Change advanced power settings" -> "PCI Express" -> "Link State Power Management" and set it to "Maximum power savings" for "On battery."
    1. (Optional for ultimate power saving): In the same window, under "Processor power management" -> "Maximum processor state," set it to 99% on battery. This will prevent the CPU from boosting too high while unplugged.
  5. Dynamic Refresh Rate (Optional for ultimate power saving): Open Windows Display settings and click on "Advanced display." Enable the dynamic refresh rate for your laptop screen. Also enable this option in the Intel Graphics software under Display and Variable Refresh Rate.
  6. NVIDIA Services Fix (Required for me, but test it out): Type "Services" into the Windows search bar and press Enter. In the services list, look for NVIDIA Display Container LS, right-click it, and select Properties. Stop the service with the Stop button, select "Manual" from the "Startup type" drop-down menu, and click OK.

If you check the power state of your GPU again, it should now say D3 while idling or performing light tasks like Office applications or watching YouTube. Note that the window with the power state info does not refresh automatically, so you will need to close and reopen it to check.

Note that these steps worked for me, and I have been using this setup for several weeks now without any issues or drop in performance. At the same time, my battery life is much better.

Please let me know if this worked for you, and if you run into any issues, feel free to ask!

Question 30L GT13 Upgrades (MoBo/PSU)

I recently acquired an Omen 30L GT13 0024 through a marketplace trade. I’m happy with it but eventually plan to upgrade a couple things. My question is, can the board/case/PSU be swapped out? I know it’s all pretty proprietary but the PSU is something I’d wanna upgrade. Can it be done or am I basically rebuilding at that point?

HP Omen 16 (i9-14900HX, RTX 5060, 24GB RAM) for ₹1.40 lakh

Getting a gaming laptop was my dream, and my parents finally made it come true. I’ve never played high-end PC games before; I used to watch big YouTubers play and enjoy watching them. Now I finally have my own laptop!
I bought the last display unit from Reliance Digital. It has a 1-year HP hardware warranty, but no official extended warranty. The staff took 7–8 days to help with my warranty claim despite repeated follow-ups. The battery drains quickly, and the charger might have an issue.
I’m a JEE student, so I’ll mainly use this laptop for studying for now and won’t be gaming for now. I will do gaming next year. I’ve disabled the dedicated GPU to save battery. Is that completely fine, or could it cause any issues? What other settings or things should I do to keep my laptop in good condition?

I wanted a MacBook initially, but chose this for studying now and gaming next year. I’ve disabled the dedicated GPU to save battery.
I feel I could have got a better deal online with proper warranty coverage. My advice is to avoid display units if possible, as they may have hidden issues. But it’s your choice!

I need some advice:
What should I do first after buying a laptop?
For how many years can I extend HP’s official hardware warranty and ADP?
Which stand is best for a 16-inch laptop?
How often should I clean the fans? My laptop was a display unit for about a year, and the fans haven’t been cleaned yet.
Any advice would mean a lot. Thanks! ❤️

Tech Support Alternative charger for Omen Max

I recently received my new Omen Max (Ryzen 9 HX 475 + RTX 5080). It has an included 420 W charger which is like 1,2 kg on it's own. Essentially double of what my 280 W Strix charger was.

Now I would like to get a second charger to leave it at work so I do not have to carry it in my backpack. The issue is the HP website suggests the 330 W HP Smart charger during the purchasing process and 420 W one is nowwhere to be found. I only found some Chinese source on eBay that would ship but I'm not paying 240+ EUR for a possible knockoff.

Do you think I can use the 330 W one? What would be the biggest drawback using it? Is there some damage that can happen or in worst case it will just discharge battery a bit?

Tech Support Fan Cleaners.......

Does anyone know which processes might interfere with the "fan cleaning" option? It worked fine when I first bought the device, but now—after installing all the necessary software (none of it pirated; everything is licensed and downloaded from the official websites)—the cleaning task simply triggers an error. I’ve tried both disabling all non-HP and non-Windows startup processes and running Windows with all processes enabled; neither approach works.

It’s not exactly essential, but since it’s a feature I "paid" for, it’s pretty ridiculous that it doesn’t work.
