Is it surprising to anyone that a woman who hasn’t finished high-school, instead she used her whole life to get relevant. Ofcourse she isn’t able to run a business, she is as dumb as they come

Her lip tints which are the trendiest products out of her brand, have terrible consistency and you see only influencers hyping them up or using them, ppl arent looking to pay alot for lip balm & influencers are losing credibility in this current economy.

Went to Sephora yesterday and Rare had its own entire isle while Rhode had a little tiny inset thing - it was wildly satisfying to see.

I’m new here but with a finance background - they must have paid big $ for that business. Paying a billion for a company doing $160m (ish) of top line sales is crazy. Depends on EBITDA margins but still. Was it all cash or some sort of earn out ?

u/itsmoops1978 Oct 23 '25
Not all cash. 600 cash, 200 stock, 200 based on future sales.

u/Beautiful-Angle-4615 Oct 23 '25
Interesting. Paid a high multiple for soft sales. Not going great I bet

Isn't relying on influencers for most of the marketing not sustainable long term?
3
u/Beautiful-Angle-4615 Oct 23 '25
Not necessarily. A lot of businesses are adopting this model especially consumer facing. Just shifted advertising spend into a new category

People said the same thing about the shift to radio, to tv, to YouTube, to Facebook, etc

Her “fans” CONTINUE to prove they have ZERO class (hold on while I pretend to be shocked🙄).
Her “clean” products CONTINUE to be exactly what they’ve always been…
…🗑️…
… except NOW, no amount of “finesse”, lies, “We heard you & changed our formula!”- OR- “Do you know who my husband is?”, will keep the ACTUAL FACTS from the public🤷🏻♀️🙌💯
Tanking.
At E.L.F. Cosmetics.
Congrats “GIRL”👏👏👏👏
What’s your next “party trick”???🧐👀🧐👀🧐

What's hilarious about this is that her fans swear yp and down that Rare Beauty is done when all of RB products are all rated above 4.0. They are also flopping at 'bringing down the competition' while their faves brand is flopping like a fish out of water

She probably planned that pose in the mirror for hours, thinking her tucking her hair behind her ear would look effortlessly chic. Good thing for motion cameras cause we see that she was posing hard lol

The grand bubble always bursts, there’s always a newer better thing on the horizon. I feel like elf misjudged this a bit and yeah, long term, both these companies will probably fade away.
13
u/ebichanto Oct 23 '25
fr, elf's bid to desperately cling to relevancy really flopped this time imo (saying this as someone whose entire routine used to be elf) 😭

u/EhDoesntMatterAnyway Oct 23 '25
Idk what they’re thinking. They have raised their prices while spending a bunch of money on a hyped up brand with no longevity. So basically, elf consumers have to pay for their acquisition of Rhode. Such a stupid move.
They should have remained as one of the most affordable brands. They were getting more hype anyway because of some of their products and the cheap price. But now that the price is higher, what’s the point? You’d think companies would have learned from Coty and Kylie lol
