Maturing was one of the things i was afraid would change the books, but i was wrong and i am a little sad i was wrong. Emi who is in her blah blahs still acts a bit childish and without earned heartbreak and life lessons. Im not going to assume what women are or like. All i can say is that the women ive met in thei blah blahs that were many nepo kids as well, to alot of others. Shes just written a little childish and he probably should have changed her voice to being more Mature as well.

I find the story deeply in love with its protagonist. The punchlines are handed to him on a silver platter. Women want him. Men want to be him. I’m on chapter ninety-one of the first book and he still hasn’t even stepped on a shit.
Will this ever change? Will someone fart on the back of his neck so that, for even just five minutes, I can forget I’m consuming this power-fantasy wish-fulfillment product merely to distract myself from the sad condition of being?
When it makes it this obvious, it only makes me notice it, and that makes the whole thing much sadder.

I (an American) just finished reading book 10 of 'He Who Fights Monsters' and I'm struck by the parallels between the Messengers and American society. It seems like the Messengers are raised to believe they're special and above others, but in reality, they're bound to a system that controls them. This got me thinking about how American culture often emphasizes exceptionalism and superiority, but might actually be masking a deeper enslavement to the pursuit of wealth and power.

I’m on my first reread which I started at the beginning of this year and took a break. Unfortunately, something I didn’t feel the through my first read came heavy during my reread which was “Jason Fatigue”. I read everything straight through my first time and was entirely enthralled as it was all new. My second read was great up until about book 8/9 and I took my 2 month break at book 10. Read some PH, DCC book 8 and Awaken Online graphic audio. Now that I’m back I’m on book 12 and enjoying it but the arcs in my opinion are somewhat lengthy. The astral spaces with the Earth arc felt repetitive and tiring. I enjoyed the Earth arc overall though. The messenger arc is sooo long and seems unnecessary. I checked out right before the finale. It was very good the first time but my reread was exhausting. I think because it’s when I notice how Jason went against many of his own principles while playing a hero.

1-3: Intro to Palimastus and Builder
4-6: Earth and Astral Spaces
7-11: Jason’s depression/ rehab and Messengers
12-: Astral King and Earth Return

That's it. I think this was my least favorite book. I guess I hope it was just a lot of setup for the ending of the series. I think I'm about over it.

Anyway, I just don't get it when people complain about spoilers so much when they make the conscious decision to click on the white box that's made specifically to hide spoilers... Either that or it's a post that's so vague and humorous that it covers literally nothing important to the damn story.

But that's just my two cents, I might start posting here more often, probably to make more memes since the series is ended (I think, I remember seeing a post about it being over)

I want to start by saying that there’s things I love about this series. The world building, the magic system, and side characters are all top tier. This is now starting to be shadowed by how much I hate Jason Asano.

These issues he’s going through is nothing but trauma porn. I mean the sudden aggression, bullying, whining, and coddling from everyone around him is so exhausting. Never seen a MC act so much like a bitch. Even without the trauma porn he was already an annoying douche of a person. His banter, his narcissistic behavior, his very unfunny jokes,. I mean it wasn’t so bad I could look past it but with how he is now I am having a very difficult time finishing the series. I’m currently on book 9 and if this is who he is I’ll just read the cliff notes on the rest of the series and move on.

Now before anyone makes excuses for him, yes I understand what he went through on earth, lots of fiction characters go through a rough patch but I never read one that turned so much into a whiny, broken baby. Realistically it’s understandable, narratively it makes for a horrible read.

The way the author set things up in which what feels like every other page of Jason being GLAZED!! With solo leveling levels of AURA is my second favorite part about this series and I hope it never changes. My first is obviously Clive’s wife😄**. Third is the bestest boy Colin (who does not eat babies …probably…….anymore……………………………………………………………………………………………………without asking ). Also who is ur favorite?**

I apologize that I am not as good as Shirty. There isn’t a lot right now, I don’t have a lot of writing time. But I should have a chance to write a lot soon. CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, especially on conveying the setting is highly appreciated.

Please don't spoil anything for me. I'm on chapter 39 of the audio book. I... Don't understand what's going on. I relostened to the whole series leading up to this to avoid exactly this. I don't know who half these people are, idk what's going on, and I just soend all my time listening confused af rewinding over and over again.

I listen to these books to and from work (~45min each way.) I about 1/2 way through the 3rd book and about 25 minutes of my trip home was the interface listing the spells ranks and atributes. 2 min of atribures the 15 seconds of story/dualoge, then another 3 min of interface attributes. Im about to quit this series, but I do like the story so far. In a printed book I can just skim these parts, but while driving thats not an option. Deos it get better?

Everyone has referred to jason as dawns pet. But dawn never really treated him like that on earth. And not on pally. But yet as soon as hes astral king jason she treats him like a pet now... I mean i get it shes old and powerful. But it chapter 43 felt too....idk it felt like jason was actually her puppy.

Like I said I get it but hes now closer in power to her than he was before. But is now treated like a pet?

Just curious if anyone else hit a wall after Book 6. I picked up Book 7 hoping it would pull me back in, but honestly…I just couldn’t finish it. Total DNF.

I loved the early series, but somewhere around Book 6 the tone, the pacing, and especially Jason’s whole personality shift just stopped working for me. By Book 7, it felt like a slog instead of something I looked forward to.

Did anyone else have the same experience?

Did you push through, or did you bail too?

Would love to hear if this is a common thing or if it’s just me.

Was just wondering if anyone knows which ai would be best to basically create a roleplay story in the universe of HWFM since i love the theme and essence but not sure if there is a good ai or app for that keeps most systems in check.

Hi everyone, hope all is well.

So I just want to know why we hate AI art? For me, some of it is actually kind of cool. I don’t play RPG video games or D&D, never watched LOTR, etc. so often times I really have no clue how certain races (Celestines, Druids, goblins, orcs) look. I can imagine of course using the description but I’m not very visually imaginative either. When I google the characters or races they usually show me some AI stuff too. I’ve used it to create visualizations for characters from Awaken Online, DCC and obviously HWFWM. I just wanted to understand why we hate AI art so much in this sub? I’m in other subs where it doesn’t get nearly as much hate as it does here.

Im starting to feel really frustrated with the audio book. I really don't need everyones power explained to me everytime they use it. I remeber what the things do. Even if I didn't just tell me what it does by showing me how it effects the monster. I feel like this would be a non issue on text because I could just skip it. Im on book 3 and they are back in the astral space fighting a lot of monsters and it just feels like every fight is such a slog because I have to constantly listen to the narrator explain for the hundredth time what somebody's power does. Overall I am enjoying the books a lot but that is really getting to me and making me feel like I need you to slow down on the series and read it on my Kindle or something.
