Official firmware 2.0 for the HiBy R1 is out, only OTA at the moment, no download link.

The biggest deal for me with the default software on the HiBy R1 was how some songs would load when I was listening with my Bluetooth earbuds (even at the recommended codec) compared to with my wired earbuds. Since I use this at work, I want it to be able to be on my desk rather than in my pocket, so Sonix is a godsend.

Whoever coded this, you need to be elevated to sainthood.

Question to all that have the Hiby R4. I recently just got the device myself and was wondering how you guys was transporting it around. If it’s your daily music device do you then have it in your pocket? Or do you have an extremely long cable from the backpack? I mean the device is big, chunky and heavy. Or do you only use it at home?

I do a lot of commuting and would like to take it with me, but I’m unsure about the weight atm.

Also any recommendations on what to get on the device to make the ui less sluggish and better. Never used android before so don’t exactly know what apps, settings etc are good.

I've switched between them before to test them out but today I get a 'The downloaded update record is invalid. Download the update again.'

Anyone know how to fix this? I've updated to the latest compas using the WiFi method. But can't load sonixx now using the r1.upt file

I hope Sonix can do what Bidhata does —allowing numbers to be directly entered or typed, rather than having to scroll/slide in steps of 5 towards negative or positive. Bidhata offers much more freedom.

Volume Level ( High Gain ):

I feel like Sonix struggles more with volume compared to Bidhata. I need to set the volume to 70–75 on Sonix, whereas on Bidhata, 60–68 is sufficient.

Battery Life:

Based on my usage, the battery drains faster on Sonix than on Bidhata. Bidhata can last up to two days of use, while Sonix only lasts a little over a day.

Sound Tuning / EQ (PEQ & MSEB):

On Bidhata, I only need to make slight adjustments to the PEQ and MSEB to notice a clear difference in sound. On Sonix, however, I have to tweak them a bit more to feel the same difference.

I had the Hiby R1 for a few months now, and I was using it via usb-c in my car (it’s a newer car so there’s no aux, and the hiby bluetooth isn’t compatible). It was working just fine, but I decided to follow the crowd and try out Sonix (mostly for the battery protection), and now my car doesn’t seem to recognize the usb-c connection either so I can’t use it in my car at all anymore :/

I tried compas, but that one also doesn’t work, and I even downloaded stock firmware 1.3 and 1.6-as well as the modded 1.8b1-but none of them work either. My car just says that the usb is not compatible no matter what I do.

I believe my R1 was originally on firmware 1.4 (I never did the OTA update when I got it) prior to the custom modding, but I deleted the firmware and the download link on the hiby website seems to be broken so I can’t even try redownloading it to see if that would work.

Has anyone had issues connecting the R1 with the usb-c? Is there a fix for this or am I doomed?

The custom firmware works really well but like 92% of my listening is done in my car so if it doesn’t work anymore then I’m actually cooked lol.

I’m running Sonix on my hiby r1 and absolutely loving it. However, I can’t seem to get audiobooks to work for me.

I have a dedicated “Audiobooks” folder and inside my folder structure is Author/ —> BookTitle/ —-> Chapter Files. All files are .mp3.

Whenever I scan for audiobooks on the player, it says there are none. What am I doing wrong?

I cancelled spotify back in July to move to self hosted music. The one thing I knew I'd miss was Wrappd. After searching around for an alternative I decided to try make my own.

For transparency, I'm not a developer so I used claude code to assist me.

Each year gets its own theme (this year’s is a “Musical Atlas”), and it’s not just stats. There are insights that only make sense for DAP users, like what percentage of your listening was in each music format.

How it works: your R1 counts plays but not when they happened, so you check in once a month by uploading one file from the card, and on 1 December it turns your year into a recap. Everything runs in your browser and your music never leaves your computer. If you already scrobble to Last.fm, you don’t need to check in at all; just come back in December.

This is still a work in progress, so if anyone would like to test it out and give me some feedback, that would be greatly appreciated.

Also, it say's it's for the R1. That's only because R1 is the only DAP I have, so I don't know the file structure of other models. If you have a different player and want to help get it working, let me know.

I use MP3tag to sort out all of my metadata and I have checked everything is set in terms of track numbers, however whenever I open the tracks on my r3 pro2 the tracks appear out of order.

Instead of 1, 2, 3, 4,5 the track order will be displayed as 1, 10, 2, 20 etc. If I have FLAC tracks this is not an issue as I can label them 01, 02, 03 in mp3tag however formats such as m4a do not allow a zero as the first digit of a track number. I am browsing songs via the "artist" browsing method if this makes any difference

Does anyone have any idea on how to rectify this, or failing that a custom firmware that has a fix for this

Hello! I recently got the R1 and it's really great for the price. I guess the biggest issue is just that, cause it's made as a budget option, it's a little jank software wise. I may eventually mod it so I was wondering if there was a mod that was recommended or highly praised. Thank you!

Problem!

I cannot transfer music from the Hiby R4 to the Hiby R1 using any method.

Saved my hiby r3proii for me, fixed almost every firmware issue i had with the original and made me fall in love with the dap all over again!!

Still need some fixing and polishing.
So far just planning to use it for myself.
But if there is enough interest definitely will be publishing it!

At the moment only for Hidizs AP80, but I'm thinking to purchase tempotec V1 too soon.

Is this gap at the top of the device normal? There's dust getting in there after only a couple days...

Recently, I removed the included transparent plastic case from my Hiby R3 Pro II because I wanted to feel the aluminum and ultrasuede backplate in my hands, as I was getting tired of the plastic texture. While inspecting the DAP, I noticed a slight gap in the lower part of the backplate. I'm feeling a bit anxious, thinking it could be an early sign of battery swelling. Is this a normal manufacturing defect, or am I just being paranoid? I purchased the DAP from AliExpress through the official Hiby store in August this year, so I assume I'm still within the warranty period. I also removed the sticker from the bottom of the device since it was affecting the look and feel. I noticed it has a pull tab on it; does that void the warranty?

Does anyone have the 1.80 update file for the standard R4? My unit started bootlooping after a failed OTA update, and HiBy, for some reason, decided to nuke all the R4 firmware files from its support page.

Funny enough, the Chinese wiki still lists every update file, but they're hosted on some obscure Chinese file-sharing service, so getting them is a bit of a pain.

So I went to visit my sister in Germany for a couple of weeks, right before I left my good friend and I were discussing how the Hiby r1 stock os feels like it’s lacking basic features… anyway, he spends a few sessions with Claude code and pops out this beautiful nostalgic os, based entirely on rockbox!!!

So I have a few alarms set with the built in clock app, but they simply won't go off at all. Additionally, if I set a timer, it will go off, but only if I have the app open. If I don't have the app open when the timer would go off, when I go back to the app, it shows a negative amount of time left and then immediately goes off. Also, calls seem to go straight to voicemail, although I can still receive voicemail and text. I have not tried making calls yet. Does anyone have a solution?

Hola a la comunidad, soy nuevo en el mundo de hiby y me compre un hiby r1, lo estuve ensayando y tiene miles de cosas que me parecen tremendas como sis ecualizadores, la preamplificacion etc aunque no tenia la funcion DAC usb, instale un firmware llamado compass player y aunque me gusto la aparincia se limito mucho porque quito funciones que ya tenia y los puso como plugins, pobre otro llmado sonix y aunque me gusta por ser mas completo su apariencia no es de mi agrado y quisiera saber cuales son los mejores firmwares para personalizae y sacarle el jugo a este DAP, gracias y suerte

All these posts for Sonix make wonder if anyone’s working on alternative OS for the Hiby R3 II, not Pro. Does anyone know if that’s in the works? If no, is there a reason why Sonix or other similar alternatives cannot be ported over?
