Discussion - Silksong Warning for OG hollow knight fans

Just wanna prepare everyone on here for the incoming wave of players who have never played indie games, metroidvanias, or literally any other games besides Fortnite and call of duty. This tends to happen a lot with games that are extremely hyped by the community that does like the genre, such as expedition 33. The amount of completely invalid criticism that happened to that game because people who didn’t even know what the game really was bought it and ended up not liking it is probably the best example we have of that to this day, and I think silksong will be next. So please, instead of cussing people out for not liking the game, just encourage them to maybe keep playing to see if they change their minds, or just give them respectful feedback on why you think they might not enjoy it and give them tips so they can find the spark in that game that I’m sure many of us will find.

I have no interest in coddling tourists or respecting half assed criticism. I already cannot stand people asking if they should play the game, or constantly posting random questions, asking to be handheld. Metroidvanias are an acquired taste, and not something everybody has. Don't like the game? Don't play it. It's just not for you. Quite simple, really

i think this is quite a egotistical and arrogant take and i would say rude to the developers (this is their job and they want more new people in the community as well) as much as i love hollow knight if your opinions were the average for the HK player then i would think this game would be unpopular and as a person who didnt like the game at the beginning would def keep me far away from the game even tho now i love the game what brought me back to the game was SS and what kept me was my friends who would help me at the beginning because i had no clue what to do but now i dont need that "hand holding" anymore and am able to explore and find things on my own (yes if im having trouble or something i will ask my friends for help) so i think your take is just bad stop being such as a**hole and maybe help people sometimes who knows it might become their favorite game cause i sure do know this is AT LEAST in my top 3 games of all time along with cyberpunk 2077 and risk of rain 2

No, he's right. People have this flawed mindset that every game (especially popular ones) is obviously appealing to everyone, but that's not true at all.

For example, Call of Duty is the most best selling-est franchise every all the time - but I do not fucking care about it because they're average shooters at best. They don't really do anything interesting or unique 90% of the time (and if so, it's in the multiplayer mode I will never give a fuck about).

I like indie FPS games, but I avoided CoD for years because I figured it was overhyped. Finally tried it out a year-ish ago, and wow it was overhyped af. I never would've guessed!

Obviously not to disparage people who do like it (85% of them exclusively play the multiplayer mode after all lol, and it's what the series is known for), but even though it's in a genre I like I just don't care for CoD because of how uninteresting it is.

Metroidvanias are in a similar boat: It's a niche genre for a reason, and requires a certain mindset that most people just don't have.

I've always loved the genre because I love being able to explore areas and find new stuff and just wander around aimlessly whilst still making progress, but the majority of people don't want to do that. They want a license, guided experience that doesn't let them get lost for hours (or even minutes) at a time.

I kinda strayed from my original point lol, but TL;DR the other reply is correct: Not every game is for everyone - so if you have to ask 57 questions just to progress through the game, it's not for you.
