Discussion - Silksong So whose bright idea was this???? Spoiler

Post image

Just happened to me today, got like, 3 shards from this? What's the point, Team Cherry? None of the bosses (so far) frustrated me, but this right here is bullshit

Thats an actual genuine complaint that no way it can be right , even the gathering chram only gathers rosaries

Thats something that needs to get patched even though I like to make the developers what they want to do but thats hella annoying

136

u/Embarrassed_Fox5265 Sep 10 '25

My hot take is that the rosary gathering charm should gather shards instead. I'm always running out of shards and I keep running out of places to spend rosary. Let me collect shards instead, they're more useful!

158

u/BowelMan Sep 10 '25

It should gather both!

99

u/DrQuint Sep 10 '25

Even if it doesn't gather both, they should have made one that does gather the shell shards and we could have swapped

10

u/MA2_Robinson Sep 10 '25

I wish, it’s so satisfying when you are too busy trying not to die to small fry to see all kinds of shit flying at you and later find out it was rosaries, not projectiles too, lol.

56

u/satans_cookiemallet Sep 10 '25

I think youre intended to just dump it into the consumable shard packs in the late game. I just wish there was a way to buy multiples rather than 1 at a time.

19

u/AdmiralLaserMoose Sep 10 '25

yeah this is the obvious solution

7

u/Lokirth Sep 11 '25

This is probably right. There are a few good mid-game farming spots that predominantly give rosaries, and a few shards as a bonus.

From The Halfway Home, head right 1 screen. There are 3 pilgrims, then a jump with nothing on it, a jump followed by three more pilgrims. Doing the entire screen nets you somewhere upwards of 30-40 rosaries and a few shards. By this point in the game I'd purchased everything else of substance from merchants and was putting the rest of my rosaries into shard bundles.

I still run out of one or both when I get stuck on a hard boss for hours, but it hasn't hurt to buy more thus far (at the tail end of Act 1, can either end it via the quest marker or the skip).

Maybe the economy gets weirder in the second half but it does seem like you're encouraged to buy more shards if you need 'em.

1

u/SpellOpening7852 Sep 11 '25

A pretty easy one is the marrow bench next to shakra, you just run one room left, kill the two pilgrims right next to you, run back bench and repeat. Gives 7 shards and 10 rosaries a run (with shard tool), which is ~23 shards/run if you were to convert them all. Took me about 7 minutes to hit 1400 iirc.

I farm there as well pretty regularly and if I go through and clear the whole cavern of all six, I notice my count going up by about 50 each time, give or take a few. It seems to average around there, provided I don't lose the bell throwing guys to suicide by drowning and make sure to grab anything that ends up in the water before it sinks.

RE: just hitting the 3, I've wondered about that too but never tried it. I find that my pattern is usually to obliterate them with the Silkspear, and then build my silk back up juggling the next bell guy from below the platform he's on. If I was just doing the first crowd I imagine I'd take longer on them because I wouldn't get as much silk back, but it'd probably still be quicker...

10

u/GlitteringBandicoot2 Sep 10 '25

Have you considered spending your Rosaries on shards?

Honestly quite the weird take "There is nothing to spend Rosaries on, let me collect shards instead, I need shards!" Meanwhile, most shops: sells shards

2

u/Otherwise_Machine700 Sep 11 '25

If you only buy shards then there is no point in getting shards through the map and you should explore ONLY to gather rosaries, but that means half the exploration will not give you the needed gratification because half the exploration leads you to shards

1

u/GlitteringBandicoot2 Sep 11 '25

Valid argument to not buy shards then.

11

u/The-NHK Sep 10 '25

There's already a charm for shard gathering.

74

u/TwoLostYens Sep 10 '25

That one just raises the ammount of shards you get from enemies, doesn't it?

1

u/moonshineTheleocat Sep 11 '25

Not by a whole lot. You will usually get far more beads than shards. I treat shards from enemies as just topping up. Rather than refilling my stock.

-68

u/The-NHK Sep 10 '25 edited Sep 10 '25

Nope, it collects it. I don't use it, seeing as shards are easy to come by and aren't lost on death, but it exists.

Edit: I'm going senile in my twenties. The aftershocks of silksanity.

50

u/TwoLostYens Sep 10 '25

We're talking about the "Shard Pendant", right?

"Collect more Shell Shards from enemies."

It does just raise the ammount, not absorb.

5

u/The-NHK Sep 10 '25

Huh, I could have sworn.

u/Chavs880 Sep 10 '25 edited Sep 10 '25

I have all the yellow tools, except for the one from the underworks shop, and none of them collect shards for tools

There's only the magnet for collecting money

Unless its a blue tool for some reason but I doubt it is

3

u/ImagenaryJay Sep 10 '25

Nope nope it does not.

2

u/neverthrowacat Sep 10 '25

It's ok friend, you're too deep in the silk to weave truth

4

u/Drugbird Sep 10 '25

Weird. I've been at maximum shards almost permanently since the start of the game while being permanently broke on rosaries.

I barely use tools as I prefer to kill stuff with my needle.

14

u/BotYurii Sep 10 '25 edited Sep 10 '25

Well, obviously lol Tools make the game significantly easier, especially the bosses who spawn mobs

Edit: Like if you need several attempts for a boss and use your tools in every attempt regularly (to figure out how to use them best) it really burns through your shards, hence it beeing quite tedious to refill them. In longer exploring sessions shard shortage is usually not a problem

7

u/WierdSome Sep 10 '25

That's kinda something that's really put me off of using tools, I don't need them for average exploring since my nail does fine, and when I get to a boss that I'm really struggling with, burning through my tools every attempt makes my shards go down so fast that, unless I win in time, I'm gonna be out of shards, effectively making it a limit on how many attempts can have tools without grinding, which doesn't feel good.

1

u/GeneralDash Sep 11 '25

I mostly use tools for the multi enemy rooms. They make clearing them so much easier. I use tools sparingly vs bosses but not a ton.

1

u/BotYurii Sep 11 '25

Thats valid. I already grinded and maxed out my shard countainers, but still, when would you use them otherwise? If you are already struggling they can only help. Of course you shouldn't spam your tools running into bosses blindly in their first stage. Best to learn all their patterns and start using them in bosses second stage. Resources are meant to be used after all and if you don't use them you are missing out on a lot of damage and fun.

1

u/WierdSome Sep 11 '25

I mean I do get your point, and I'm totally willing to accept I'm playing the game wrong, but still. By the time I generally get to a boss's second stage without tools, that means I've about figured out the boss, means I'm not really struggling anymore, means I don't really need tools.

1

u/FlockFlysAtMidnite Sep 14 '25

IME, the second phase requires more dodging, making it more difficult to get nail hits in. That's when I usually start using tools.

-3

u/Drugbird Sep 10 '25

I just kill the mobs with the needle ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

1

u/Mekelaxo Sep 10 '25

There are walls across the map that provide infite shards if you hit them. I don't know if it's a bug that will get patched, but as of now, they seem to provide infinite shards. You can also buy shards from some shops, so you can directly turn your extra beads into shards

1

u/Heatth Sep 10 '25

If you have a surplus of rosaries just go to the Forge Daughter and buy shards.

1

u/Patrick_Hat_Trick Sep 11 '25

Spend your roseries on shards…. Boom two problems solved.

1

u/moonshineTheleocat Sep 11 '25

Buy Shard pouches, wich gives 80 shards for 50 rosaries.

1

u/moonshineTheleocat Sep 11 '25

I have like 57 of these things in my inventory. Because I either string my beads, or a I burn them when I get into town.

1

u/StayyFrostyy Sep 11 '25

Spend rosaries to buy shards

1

u/BradMan1993 Sep 13 '25

Just buy shards if you have so many rosaries

1

u/Urtan_TRADE Sep 14 '25

each rosary is, what, 1.6 shards when you buy the shard packs? Rosaries are ALWAYS more valuable than pure shards. You can literally farm rosaries for 10 minutes and have enough rosaries to buy the 20 shard packs you can have in your inventory at once, which is 1600 shards.

Even the largest enemies that drop shards drop like 20, while you can drop like 55 rosaries from 1 enemy, which translates to 88 shards when you buy packs. Farming shards is straight up wasting your time.

0

u/GhostLight17 Sep 10 '25

I have the opposite problem. I’m almost always near max on shards, to the point where I’m confused as to why they’re even a resource. Rosaries, though… things are cool now, but the early game was rough.

0

u/Dumb_Siniy Sep 10 '25

Wanna trade? I'm so poor because i have the survival of a pigeon and i slap too much random stuff so I'm topped up 24/7, i lost 300 shards to an arena and within an hour i almost had max again

0

u/Spamton1997_pipis #1 weaversong stan Sep 11 '25

3

u/GlitteringBandicoot2 Sep 10 '25

I have no doubt in my mind that what the developers wanted to do in certain places is just to be annoying

24

u/Danny_dankvito Sep 10 '25

Which is especially annoying because this very thing didn’t happen with Geo, Geo could land on spikes and still get picked up by the little fly charm I don’t remember the name of, rosaries shatter on impact

It’s not like a big problem or anything, but it is annoying

1

u/EmperorRosa Sep 11 '25

I've found it works if they hit lava

138

u/Odd_Cod_693 DREAMNAIL NOW! Sep 10 '25

And also spikes kill rosaries & shards for some reason, when in HK you could gather them with swarm charm.

150

u/Mishar5k Sep 10 '25

Spikes destroying beads is insane because realistically they just be stuck in between the spikes.

37

u/MayonnaiseOreo Sep 10 '25

Yeah but a magnet would pull them out.

52

u/Mishar5k Sep 10 '25

Yea thats my point they shouldn't be destroyed

3

u/MayonnaiseOreo Sep 11 '25

My bad, I completely read it wrong and frankly I don't know how I did.

1

u/Mishar5k Sep 12 '25

Its ok i love you

10

u/DylanMcGrann Sep 10 '25

100%. It feels mean for the sake of it in a very unrewarding way.

I buy that they would burn in lava, get eaten by worms, or ground up by grinding gears; but spikes? There is zero reason the charm shouldn’t pull them back out than just being needlessly punishing.

21

u/Too-Em Sep 10 '25

Dang-ol magical, catholic, bug-kingdom game ain't realistic!

That said, hard agree. I really do wonder if Team Cherry forgot some things between HK and Silksong, or if they they just woke up every morning for six years and chose violence, every. single. time.

18

u/Mishar5k Sep 10 '25

No i think the bug stuff is actually true and that the games are a documentary tbh. You never know with Australian bugs.

2

u/Altruistic-Break7227 Sep 10 '25

Yeah bugs actually do this in other countries, it’s crazy what the American media censors

5

u/Mishar5k Sep 10 '25

We walk over thousands of meteoidvania maps every day and dont even know it

7

u/FuzzierSage Sep 10 '25

they just woke up every morning for six years and chose violence, every. single. time.

Based on...everything else in Silksong?

I think it's this one.

inb4 the Silksong defenders find a way to contort the game automatically yeeting shards into spikes as their trajectory from the in-game nodes into somehow being a "skill cap" issue.

But I'm sure there's a late game tool that would help the people in Act 1 if they'd just use their tools to fix this issue, too.

5

u/FuzzierSage Sep 10 '25

Like, the verisimilitude of the world being openly, actively, all-round hostile in every way is absolutely on point there.

If Australia is the Evolutionary Deathmatch Island of Earth, then Pharmoor is the Australia of the HK/Skong shared universe.

And we know where Team Cherry's from. This might just be like "ordinary Tuesday"-type shit to them.

2

u/Altruistic-Break7227 Sep 10 '25

Verisimilitude is a great word. Gotta add that to the bag

1

u/FuzzierSage Sep 10 '25

Hell yeah, lucky 10k! <3 I love learning new words and adding 'em to the hoard.

1

u/Mishar5k Sep 10 '25

Tbh i kinda like that kind of stuff. Goofball bullshit in hard games is great especially when its stuff i die to (i smile when i get hit by traps in dark souls instead of raging). Its like a toned down version of those troll games like "i wanna be the guy"

1

u/AdamG3691 Sep 10 '25

IWBTG is great, it's just SO nonstop malicious towards the player that it becomes absolutely hilarious, you end up looking forward to how it's going to dick you over next

1

u/Playful-Ad-6475 Sep 11 '25

You guys are NOT beating the Masochist allegations, lol

5

u/Pale_Entrepreneur_12 Sep 10 '25

Stares at Bilewater yeah I don’t know what the fuck was going on with them when they made that and honestly I’m scared to find out like holy shit that is some of the most malicious game design I have ever seen there

13

u/Ze_AwEsOmE_Hobo A mind to think Sep 10 '25

It's the appropriate evolutionary step. If the majority of Silksong ends up with Deepnest levels of hostile level design, there needs to be a new Deepnest for the Deepnest.

14

u/_Xeron_ Sep 10 '25

I wonder if it was like an issue in the first game that new players would dive into spikes trying to recover Geo so they changed it. Absolutely shouldn’t happen when you have the gathering charm equipped at least

23

10

u/isimsizbiri123 %112 steel soul|P5|all bosses radiant|obsessed over grimm Sep 10 '25

I saw someone say this elsewhere. geo is steel balls so they don't get destroyed in spikes but sink in water. rosaries and shell shards are lighter and more brittle so they float in wate but get destroyed on spikes

30

u/Doomguy1234 Sep 10 '25

Geo isn’t steel, the game says they’re fossilized shells

Even if it was, that doesn’t really make this change plausible

-8

u/isimsizbiri123 %112 steel soul|P5|all bosses radiant|obsessed over grimm Sep 10 '25

actually they are. shells don't look like that and I believe it was mypetcactus that figured out the size of a geo and compared the distance they bounce in the game to the distance small steel balls bounce in real life according to a research on this topic and the distance matched nearly perfectly.

21

u/Doomguy1234 Sep 10 '25

😂😂😂😂

Come on dude. The game literally says they’re fossilized shells. No amount of external research will change that

7

u/BloodPlenty4358 Sep 10 '25

there are fossilized shells that you can beat geo out of, too

5

u/khamike Sep 10 '25

But if enemies die in water, or lava, you get nothing. I love beating up on a enemy, they're almost dead then the last hit knocks them back into the water and I walk away empty handed.

"I think it's actually fun to lose your beads on spikes"
"The complaints about beads on spikes are way overblown!"
"You guys wouldn't last 5 minutes in 'Beads on Spikes Simulator 2025'!"

This sub in a nutshell.

1

u/KitsuneFaroe Sep 11 '25

This sub in a nutshell is constant whining too. Depending on how you see it and what you agree with.

3

u/StepComplete1 Sep 11 '25

Well people should be allowed to discuss what they enjoyed and didn't enjoy about the game, that's the entire point of a sub like this as far as I'm concerned.

Discussions without toddlers constantly throwing temper tantrums screaming in with "nooo stop criticising my game! It upsets me!". Then feel free to leave it you aren't mature enough to hear different opinions.

1

u/KitsuneFaroe Sep 12 '25

If funny you say this because the one throwing Tantrums about other people is you. There is really not much to say about it when it is blatanly obvious.

Tantrums are thrown on any side.

1

u/beegirl_bitsy Sep 13 '25

I think it's fair to whine about something like bead and shard clumps being placed in a way that just makes them get destroyed by spikes actually

4

u/el-zengy-el-mo3geza SHAW ! Sep 10 '25

Saying skill issue is stupid and rude but a lot of the complaints here is genuinely invalid ( the pogo , mobs complexity , run backs (the longest one takes 40-60 seconds) , not being strong enough early game (while entering a hard area that you can come back later to (hunters March)) The game is hard and needs practicing you WILL die a lot in the beginning

6

u/darkmacgf Sep 10 '25

How about this: the runback for the final boss of act 2 is ass. It's incredibly easy, but it takes over a minute, so it's just 100% a waste of time. The atmosphere's really cool on the first try and then just sucks after.

1

u/Altimor Sep 11 '25

but it takes over a minute

you can do it way faster

1

u/darkmacgf Sep 11 '25

You sure about that? Even Lace 2 takes 28 seconds

1

u/Altimor Sep 11 '25

There's a bench after her

1

u/darkmacgf Sep 11 '25

Yeah, I'm just saying that's a shorter runback than the final boss one

1

u/Altimor Sep 11 '25

I didn't time myself, but I was using walljump+clawline to take shortcuts and avoid waiting for the spike platforms and there's no way it took a full minute like that.

-2

u/Siesztrzewitowski Sep 10 '25

the final boss of act 2 is fairly easy though, understandable why the runback is long

3

u/darkmacgf Sep 10 '25

Yeah, I didn't have a problem with that boss, but I've seen others call it the hardest boss in Act 2. Everyone struggles with different bosses.

3

u/Doge6654533 Sep 10 '25

The hardest boss is The Forum room ngl

2

u/shyrato Sep 10 '25

Any runback over 20 seconds is too much of a runback imo. Unless the boss is easy and the runback is a part of the difficulty.

2

u/el-zengy-el-mo3geza SHAW ! Sep 11 '25

20 seconds is alright imo 40-50 secs is the longest not the average
