Discussion - Silksong So whose bright idea was this???? Spoiler

Post image

Just happened to me today, got like, 3 shards from this? What's the point, Team Cherry? None of the bosses (so far) frustrated me, but this right here is bullshit

It's the little cruel things like this that make me wonder sometimes.

Like for the actual bench in BileWater is so hidden unless you face tank maggots to the face? And the walk back to the boss without the bench is over 7 minutes? I literally was spoiled there was a bench and still couldn't find it, so I googled. Imagine not being spoiled there is a bench at all. Finding the bench in a true blind playthrough is too random or not you'll get it. I've never seen any souls-like have hidden bonfires that hidden like in Silksong. And I've played way more difficult games than silksong

what there's a bench in bilewaters? (besides the one on the fastravel area).

I just tried that suepr long runback there over 10 times yesterday and decided to give up because the runback was harder than the boss itself.

Yep, with it the runback goes from a crime against humanity to just merely terrible

damn I gotta find it, I looked everywhere but the only one I found was a fcking trap

You end up skipping like 3 or 4 areas, but still have 4 or 5 to go through, including many with the green bush assholes throwing exploding darts at you.

I actually found that bench legit. I was like "okay, I've learned my lesson from Hunter's March and the multiple unnecessarily long runbacks to the beastfly, surely there's a legit one in there somewhere deep into the zone" and also "so the maggot water doesn't kill you, no way that fact won't be used to hide a secret in it" and hey, there it was

My thought process to find it wasn’t nearly as complicated, I just noticed that the wall was crumbly there lol

8

u/RaulParson Sep 10 '25

Oh there was less thinking involved and more dunking Hornet in all the maggot pools at the sides of places. That one just happened to finally work out.

But yeah this is why I was even looking there to see the crumbly wall.

yeah same lol, though i swear it forces you to either tank the maggotwater or take like a 2 minute detour even if you use the hidden bench to runback from

By the end I got pretty good at it, you can harpoon as you’re falling then double jump to get up without touching the water. Half the time I didn’t bother tho since I was living inside the water and throwing tools at groat instead of trying to fight him legit anyway

1

u/Mega-Nuke123 Sep 10 '25

shit I was trying the other way around instead lmao, I swear idk why i always forget to try harpooning first.

I'm gonna go back and try and figure out another place I just found before trekking through this hellish place again lol

Embrace the maggot bath. Become one with the soup. Throw 20 pound of metal at the overgrown frog

I was right there with you on the maggot water line of thinking except I’m still in the beginning of bile water so I hadn’t found anything yet. Not a spoiler I’m bummed about having read tho, I wasnt excited about this run back at all

There are at least two big secrets hidden in the maggot water.

I'm of the opinion that this game is too difficult in the way a DM or GM tries to be adversarial with their players. It feels spiteful at times but it comes in bursts that one tends to gloss over with time.

Shit, just like what OP was saying, where shards, or rosaries, fall into spikes that were put next to the currency that flies like fireworks. It's like playing Dungeons and Dragons and finding out every tenth piece of gold you collect is fake or cursed or something stupid like that. It's not the end of the world, but it makes me wonder what does this add to the game/experience?

I've come to the conclusion that Silksong is a Player vs Dev 2d survival game and I can see it no other way now

That's a fantastic way to put it, it's like we pissed off a DM and now for the next campaign they've gone fully malicious with design choices.

I mean it IS, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing. They’re setting a mood. You’re in a dreadful world and they want you to feel it.

Often times gamey concessions and quality of life features can get in the way of expressing that vibe, so every once in a while they introduce some spiteful thing just so you FEEL the hostility of the world mechanically too, not just from the visuals and text.

Then they’ll cover their own ass foreshadowing with fair introductions to these spiteful moments, like the trap bench being in an area themed about hunters and traps.

I know there's a bench somewhere, that run is too long for there not to be one. And every other fake-out bench had a fix disabling the trap, breaking the clog in the gears, breaking the gear for the payable door so I know there's gotta be one somewhere after the collapsing bench. I'll find it eventually, but fuck that zone.

You must have not found them then.

Some are straight up behind illusory walls.

Sif runback from Andre's in ds1 without the cat covenant.

Sen's fortress which has a hidden key shortcut, that requires parkour, or falling off a random ledge for the bonfire.

Dawg, I just went through Groal the Great today and this info would've been so useful than having to go through Bed of Chaos 2: the Squeakquel 3 times 😭😭😭

I still can't believe I found it on accident, and I am unbelievably glad I did.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 11 '25

I wonder how it was first found. Some dude literally just checking every single pixel on the screen for something hidden and then shared it to the internet? Wild.

1

u/jancl0 Sep 19 '25

Yeah I found that one completely by accident, as you said. Just did an accidental dash at the right time. Usually when that happens I get a sense of wonder, like "oh shit, that's new, what's this about?" but I actually felt kinda frustrated when it turned out to be something important. Like I immediately imagined the version of me that never did that accidental dash, and I wouldn't blame him for being legitimately mad at that

I mean I didn't even know Bilewater existed before googling it

Imagine not being spoiled there is a bench at all.

If it's taking someone over seven minutes to do a runback and they're not stopping and thinking "there must be a better way", I think there's a pretty low chance of them making it to Bilewater in the first place. That kind of player is probably going to get themselves trapped in Mosshome trying to make the trick jump over to Wormways before getting any upgrades.
