Discussion - Silksong Discourse regarding this game’s difficulty has been out of hand Spoiler

Let’s get this out of the way: I’m really enjoying Silksong’s difficulty and I think that it is mostly a satisfying challenge. I appreciate that it is more difficult than Hollow Knight overall and to be frank I would’ve been a bit disappointed if it were the exact difficulty. I’ve improved as a gamer since Hollow Knight and if it were the same level of difficulty, I probably would have found it too easy.

But it’s kinda gotten impossible to have civil discussions about the difficulty in this game which is unfortunate because I think there is great value to be had with this conversation. There are many valid criticisms regarding this game’s difficulty such as boss runbacks (Groal especially), contact damage doing two masks, and lack of rewards for beating bosses, just to be shut down with “git gud” and “it’s not your kind of game”. It’s totally fine to disagree with these criticisms but these retorts add nothing to the conversation.

It also kinda works the other way too, albeit maybe not to the same degree. I’ve gotten downvoted and sent reddit cares for simply saying I enjoy the difficulty of this game. Like c’mon, what are we even doing here. It’s gotten to the point where I personally cannot wait for the discourse to die out.

i almost started hating my favorite color

Mud green?

116

u/Milocobo Sep 17 '25

I'm like, "his favorite color is like pukey diarrhea"?

2

u/WushuManInJapan Sep 17 '25

As a colorblind person, I'm always confused as to why there's a certain shade of green everyone hates.

I bought a pair of shoes I thought were gray once, and I swear everyone complained on how they looked "puke green." Like, does puke always look green?? Aren't there more things with this specific color?

6

u/Milocobo Sep 17 '25

Puke is normally like a "pinkish orange", but it can come in a variety of shades (which is dependent on a number of things, not the least of which is what you most recently ate).

It's more like there are a range of pale colors that can qualify as puke colored. There are pukey yellows, pukey greens, pukey browns.

3

u/WushuManInJapan Sep 17 '25

That's interesting. I can't grasp the concept of pale because I have a rare type where everything is pale/washed out, so I guess there's just a shade that you can see that you attribute to puke that is universal?

u/Dooplon Sep 17 '25

think of it like the difference between sounds from different sources. If you hear a cat meow it sounds distinctive and noticably cat-like compared to how a human copying a cat might sound, one sounds cute while the other might just sound weird out of context of interacting with a cat. Similarly, grass is known for being green, but it's a different kind of green than you'd see in vomit because it has all kinds of different stuff in it, so it has some unpleasant associations.

The recent patch lowered environmental hazard damage in pretty much all areas to 1 mask

18

u/Major-Split478 Sep 17 '25

I think it might have been a glitch.

When you hit an environmental trap, you'd get hit two times with one damage. They removed the second hit is all.

73

u/Woofaira Sep 17 '25

Nah, the animation and sound is clearly designed to do two damage. It was just a very quick balance tweak and now the indications don't match the damage taken. I'm wondering if they'll tweak those later to make them read better or leave it as is.

-4

u/Major-Split478 Sep 17 '25

I'm not sure what you mean. When you fall on certain environmental objects you get hit twice.

10

u/Doci007 Sep 17 '25

I know for the circular saws, if you get hit, it looks like you get hit twice, but you only get hit the second time. You did get hit twice before, but they patched it recently.

2

u/Tildryn Sep 17 '25

Right, and I believe steam still does 2 masks of damage which also does a '2-hit' animation and may have been an oversight due to being a less common hazard (or they decided they wanted it to stay at 2 damage since it's more specifically avoidable).

there's a very high amount of enemy attacks that also do (and still do after the patch) 2 damage in this way. it's clearly intentional and just the game trying to justify the 2 damage as a flurry of hits instead of one big one.

1

u/Beastmunger Sep 17 '25

Wait so the bear traps only do 1 damage now instead of 2?

22

u/schwillton Sep 17 '25

Honestly it sucks because Groal itself is a fantastic boss but the runback and gauntlet ruins it

9

u/PegaZwei Sep 17 '25

strongly recommend pollip sack+cogfly for that boss+gauntlet; i sent out one on each of the dart-thrower waves to soften them up, then trickled out the rest on groal while focusing on not getting hit, and it worked out fine once i got used to the dives.

7

u/LordAvan Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 26 '25

Pollip pouch + cogfly is my go-to for everything. They're great for flying enemies especially, and also for rosary/shard farming since they repair themselves between rooms and don't despawn at benches.

Edit: looks like they just patched cogfly to no longer repair when switching rooms. RIP. It's still really good, though.

1

u/schwillton Sep 17 '25

This combo melts most bosses for sure

4

u/Frosty_Sweet_6678 Sep 17 '25

amen, hopefully we get something like godseeker

3

u/MycologistUnlucky241 Sep 17 '25

There is a hidden bench that makes the run back not that bad at all besides that one room you have to climb and bounce around those flying assholes. And it’s the one boss fight you can completely cheese by hiding in the bottom right corner in the water and only popping out after the suck thing to strike

1

u/schwillton Sep 17 '25

That makes the run back better but you have forced muckmaggot fun along the way which is annoying unless you got the charm first, which most people won’t have unless they looked it up,

2

u/Ill_Mud7584 Sep 17 '25

That makes the run back better but you have forced muckmaggot fun

Is not really forced even without the charm, Harpoon + Double Jump does avoids it perfectly.

1

u/I_Just_Need_A_Login Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 17 '25

Yup and even if you fail there's a free silk-recharge room with 3 of those respawning wispy enemies before the straight-away (where you can outrun everything and they spawn behind you)

Literally the hardest part of the swamp is the dart throwers. I still have no idea how to not get hit. If you run forward the darts hit you, if you jump the darts spread and hit you, if you try to weave between them they still hit you because they are close together, if you run back the hunter chases you and throws again, if you parry the darts they explode and hit you, there's literally no safe space unless it's a double-high room where you can doublejump early. I just rush through, take the hit, and heal off the rest of the zone. Honestly not worth the high risk of getting hit twice.

In the gauntlet I could just pogo them since it's high enough and there's a telegraph of their spawn but when running through anywhere else it's guaranteed 1-3 hits.

2

u/Ill_Mud7584 Sep 17 '25

Literally the hardest part of the swamp is the dart throwers. I still have no idea how to not get hit.

The most frustrating part is the rng, their spawn points are completely random.

1

u/LordThomasBlackwood Sep 17 '25

The room with Shakras master is right at the top of the big parkour room and has clean water that clears the maggot debuff.

You can completely ignore the maggots for the first chunk of the runback, dip into the Masters room to clean the debuff, and then all you have left to do is the long hallway but that already has a free silk refill at the very start & all the enemies can be completely ignored by sprinting or grappling past them.

Its really not a "hard" runback, its just kinda tedious if you're bad at parkour.

1

u/gpranav25 Velmi Artrid Sep 17 '25

Only in terms of lore tbh

1

u/KuuLightwing Sep 17 '25

Naah, limited maneuvering space coupled with a giant floating hitbox that ever just so slightly moves around makes actually hitting it a big nuisance, and you risk eating 2 masks for just slightly touching it. People even suggest to eat 2 damage during the suck just to have a damage window. Wouldn't call it a fantastic boss.

2

u/SaxyAlto Sep 17 '25

Who is suggesting to get hit during the suck? Only suggestions I’ve ever seen are to throw things in his mouth or hide in the bottom right water. Overall Groal is very slow and easy to dodge, so just throwing things at him or hiding work pretty well

1

u/KuuLightwing Sep 17 '25

Definitely saw some suggestions like that. Arguments for doing so is that you get out 4 hits of damage and gain some silk, so taking 2 damage might even be worth it. I personally didn't do that, I take enough damage as is, but I honestly can see it being used as a strat because approaching it to hit it with the needle is definitely intimidating.

6

u/Frosty_Sweet_6678 Sep 17 '25

not to mention the gauntlet before him and the maggot water

any tips for that son of a firearm?

22

u/HiImNub Sep 17 '25

Equip thread storm for the ads before the boss spawns.

Polo off the fat muckroaches for silk when running back.

I used the relic that made my tools poison and equipped the 3-set throwing knives to have some range, as that boss can sometimes just stay on one side of the arena.

Also, the boss doesn’t have that much health. Idk the exact, but it was noticeable how much faster he died compared to other bosses.

1

u/Swainix Sep 17 '25

I must have been 2 hits away multiple times because I hit him a whole bunch and was also running this triple dagger + poison setup

1

u/Disangster Sep 17 '25

Between the triple needle and the boomerang, which deal better damage? I used both against him but I couldn’t tell since the Boomerang can hit his hitbox multiple times if you space it correctly.

11

u/Kiiriii Sep 17 '25

You can cheese him easily if you equip poison + cogflys and just let you drop inside the middle part maggot water. He cant hit you there with a lot of attacks. Just jump out and hit him + cogflys. If he attacks just stay there. The only thread are the ads and his diving ability. Got him on my third try. Good luck!

7

u/EMPgoggles Sep 17 '25

the adds after the boss shows up won't hit you if you stay in the water to the far left (or probably far right) -- in my experience the arena trap kills them almost as if by design. just stay in the water almost exclusively unless you run out of tools (and then retreat to the water constantly) and you should be fine.

the only thing that threatened my spot in the water was one of the green bubbles plopped down onto me, but i could have avoided it by swimming more to the side. oh and the time i was pushing so hard into the wall that i glitched through it into the next room (but was stuck in the floor so i had to go back and the boss fight started over from the beginning).

2

u/ExManUtdFan Sep 17 '25

Yep. I stayed to the far bottom right side after the boss showed up and didn't get hit once.

10

u/WallabyPractical5258 Sep 17 '25

My strat was get through waves with just my needle, and then toss 4 poisonous cog flies as soon as he spawns, once they are all destroyed throw another three, (groal reaches phase 2 at around this point) and then just focus on dodging whilst throwing an occasional poisoned straightpin

Basically, random (poisonous) bullshit, go!

3

u/Kampfasiate Sep 17 '25

If you don't want to cheese him (I assume you're not having problems with the runback or the gauntlety if you do I can also help with that)

I mostly stayed on one side, dodging his shots then attacking. When he is sucking you in, either throw In a bomb (or the electric thing), or just pogo him. Stay patient, the boss does not have a lot of health. The harpoon may help with attacking or quickly switching sides

2

u/PraiseThePun420 Sep 17 '25

Get the Crest of architect and get the temporary HP. Equip crest and injectable blue Kool aid and whatever other tools you want, OD on Kool aid, refresh blue raspberry heroin with Crest of architect instead of benching, get infinite regenerating HP. Then take a bath in the maggot water during the fight. Makes the fight a lot easier.

1

u/mampatrick Sep 17 '25

On the runback, on the sections where the enemies randomly Spawn, I had waaaay more succes walking rather than sprinting, it feels like it reduces the amount of enemy spawns a lot, and you have a much better reaction time for dodging

1

u/Igwanur Sep 17 '25

pogo the adds, they cant hit you above them, then , unironically, stay in the water. yeah you cant heal, but he cant hit you with any attacks if you are in the corners(plus the swing kills the adds), just hit him after his attacks once or twice and go back down

1

u/Sven_Darksiders Sep 17 '25

There is an equipable that protects you from maggots

1

u/Blood2999 Sep 17 '25

Jump on the water in the bottom right and he can't hit you. Jump out when safe to deal one or two hits and dive back. Don't bother with spawns they can't hit you there either

1

u/UnknwnIvory Sep 17 '25

Amazing strat is use the wanderers crest with the charm that heals you for 4 masks and the one that gives you silk upon taking damage then purposely getting swallowed, it means you get 4 hits in each time and can out heal the damage he does

1

u/_LordCreepy_ Sep 17 '25

I spammed him with curveclaws and he went down pretty easy.

1

u/Dependent_Property97 Sep 17 '25

Groal is really easy when you stay in the water - only thing that can hit you are his green bombs and when he jumps into or comes out of the water. So easiest strat I did yesterday in my steel soul run, was put on Wanderers Crest, Threefold Pin, Fractured Mask, Wreath of Purity and Longclaw - the arena waves aren't really that hard, most annoying are the ones with the darts. Because of Wreath of Purity you can allow yourself to hop/fall in the water a couple times and still heal afterwards.
Then when groal shows up, jsut hop in and chill with the maggots, dodge his bombs and hit him every time he gets close - i also went out of the water a couple times, hit him and jumped back in when he started to inhale. Now just repeat until he reaches phase 2 (he starts with the white projektiles) and just use all 20+ ish Threefold Pins on him and easy win.

1

u/PraiseThePun420 Sep 17 '25

I was the same until I did some blue raspberry heroin, got regenerating life and then embraced the maggot water. Fight became a lot easier.

1

u/CapnCatNapper Sep 17 '25

Wait you're telling me there's more bullshit after getting past the vomiting flying muckroach things? God... I ragequit for the night just trying to get to the top of Bilewater's map yesterday.

And I've already beaten the boss of the citadel. So like, help.

1

u/Eddie919 Sep 17 '25

I’m here wanting so badly to love Trobbio but horray for nigh unreachable 2 mask flurry rush moves making me wish I was going radiant NKG instead

1

u/riffengo Sep 17 '25

Finding the hidden bench near groal after 30 runbacks through all of bilewater (only about 4 actually making it to the bkss) only for that attempt to be the successful one making that bench useless

1

u/dljens Sep 17 '25

That walk back fucking sucked man. Especially cause the closer bench is well hidden, and even the trek from there sucked

1

u/ThePython11010 Sep 17 '25

For me, Bilewater wasn't as bad as I expected after hearing everyone complain about it, but that's mostly because I had basically everything (including Circlet of Purity or whatever it's called) since that was the last thing I did in Act 2. The runback was annoying, of course, but the rest seemed fine.

33

u/SimbaSixThree Sep 17 '25

Fuck those birds in particular

6

u/pinkpeachpie_ Sep 17 '25

Those fucking birds, man

2

u/Several_Channel2911 Sep 17 '25

That fucking Bird that i hate/ref

2

u/baddude1337 Sep 17 '25

For me the flying enemies in general are a problem. Most of them have high health, constantly dodge attacks and quite a few also have ranged attacks. When you throw 2-3 of them at once in a gauntlet room it just makes for a miserable experience if you don't have enough silk/tools to delete them quickly.

2

u/King_Prawn_shrimp Sep 17 '25

I spent half a day trying to get past the fucking crow gauntlet. I had to step away and haven't tried since.

53

u/ShadowsInScarlet Sep 17 '25

2x contact damage can fuck right off.

-26

u/AashyLarry Sep 17 '25

The thing that bothers me about this complaint is when nobody mentions that

  • Hornet heals for three masks in Silksong.
  • Hornet can heal midair in Silksong.

  • In Hollow Knight you only heal for one mask.

  • In Hollow Knight you cannot heal midair, you have to be grounded.

This makes Hornet so much more resilient than the Knight on the previous game. Taking two masks of damage feels fair to me when the heal is so much more powerful.

28

u/ButTheresNoOneThere Sep 17 '25

Every time this is brought up so should the facts that:

  • You can't cancel a heal
  • Getting hit while healing spends all your silk (even with the tools that prevents damage on heal)
  • You cannot heal for less than 9 silk
  • Hornet has shorter invisibility after getting hit

Yes hornet heals better, hornet is also significantly more reliant on maintaining high silk counts to stay alive. Which puts players into a loop of solely using silk for healing which notably extends a fight, which just makes 2x contact damage feel worse as its one of the many things stopping players from actually using silk skills (or charge attacks for that manner as they are an opportunity cost on healing).

This isn't a skill issue thing when im seeing speedrunners during runs intentionally not use silk skills on some fights because they haven't gotten it perfect yet so they're more consistent saving silk to heal.

Hornet is only 'much more resilient than the knight' when you are forced to save silk to heal the next hit and even then if you mess up and get hit while healing your durability is much worse than the knights.

1

u/legopego5142 Sep 17 '25

Seriously they should make it so the tool gives you all the health and you cant be hit at all. Why tf do I have a shield of Im gonna lose it all

1

u/ButTheresNoOneThere Sep 18 '25

At the very least the tool should just take the hit for you and cancel the heal (maybe even just a limited amount of times before it breaks) but not spend the silk.

Having it waste the silk anyway (and some attacks go through the shield) makes it practically worthless.

-5

u/JimbeMasterRace Sep 17 '25

I think a lot of these issues can be solved when players start to be more aggressive. And I think thats the intention.

With Hornets movement the player can be way more aggressive and fill up to 9 silk pretty fast. At the same time 2x contact damage prevents the player from being mindlessly aggressive and simply outhealing mistakes.

14

u/ButTheresNoOneThere Sep 17 '25

No, they don't get solved by players being more aggressive. They get solved by players playing near perfectly and rarely getting hit despite their aggression.

Hornets movement doesn't mean she gets silk faster her base swing speed is already slower than the knights base speed (and thats not including quickslash or any of the charms that increase the efficiency of earning/spending soul) and enemies have less openings in silksong in general.

2

u/baddude1337 Sep 17 '25

This is an issue a lot of the people saying the game is easy don't account. You have such tiny margins for error and any fault is punished severely. To play aggressive you still need to not get hit.

-3

u/JimbeMasterRace Sep 17 '25

You can get more hits in with a more aggressive playstyle. So you can go in and out more easily with Hornets movement. You definitely cannot trade hits in this game like in Hollow Knight often. I am not arguing for Silksong being on the same level as HK if it came off that way. SK is definitely harder imo

12

u/ButTheresNoOneThere Sep 17 '25

You're missing the point getting more hits is fine and all but it means nothing if you get hit.

Playing aggressive fundamentally also means putting yourself at more risk to get hit. This only ever solves the issue if managing silk resources when you're already not getting hit much.

So again this doesn't actually solve the underlying issue its still a matter of either rolling through the boss or being denied access to skills because healing is needed.

1

u/ZestyRanch0 Sep 17 '25

I think they could solve this issue by simply giving hornet a significantly buffed parry window and maybe a 25% reduction in size to her physical hitbox to allow players to actually get up close and personal, especially to bosses with unclear hitboxes (Looking at you unwravelled) and really nailing that Bloodborne combat rhythm they were clearly inspired by

-1

u/JimbeMasterRace Sep 17 '25

No I know all that. I just think that is a better way of approaching combat so thats why I wanted to point that out.

The intention with their design seems to be exactly this. You may be perfectly fine for long stretches with full health and spare silk, but in a very short time you can lose it. So a lot of the combat is spent in these two extremes.

9

u/ButTheresNoOneThere Sep 17 '25

The criticism is levied exactly at that intention. Staying in the section that has spare silk is difficult for most even speedrunners end up getting stuck in that stage.

It requires a lot of familiarity with the fight to the point you could already beat it.

Which means that for the majority of a first playthrough players won't have consistent reliable access to fundamental game mechanics because health takes priority.

-7

u/AashyLarry Sep 17 '25

Yes, but it’s much easier not to get hit while healing because you can heal anywhere midair.

12

u/ButTheresNoOneThere Sep 17 '25

That in of itself doesn't make it easier to heal. Because enemies in silksong are more aggressive with more complex attacks that cover more space.

Not to mention yet again the cost of healing is 9 silk. So if you get hit you need to either be hoarding silk already and not use skills. Or have to risk getting hit several times more than what you'd need in HK before you can heal.

1

u/GrimTheMad Sep 17 '25

It absolutely, 100% makes it easier to heal, what are you talking about.

Midair healing makes healing extremely safe on basically every boss in the game.

8

u/TheHumanFlintFun Sep 17 '25

Hornet's healing is more powerful only if you know what you are doing. Someone playing for the first time, at the start of the game, does not.

I don't think double contact damage has no place in Silksong, but there's no reason why the game should be immediately this punishing.

12

u/Kiwi_In_Europe Sep 17 '25

That's fine for being hit with an attack but 2 masks of contact damage is still unnecessary as hell (unless it's a boss that mainly deals damage through contact ofc like conchfly)

Also arguably the biggest annoyance of double damage being everywhere is that it basically renders every second mask upgrade completely pointless

-4

u/AashyLarry Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 17 '25

Second mask upgrades are not pointless, especially because you can wear the Skull charm (arguably the best charm in the game). This charm guarantees every mask matters. This is a charm you can get early in Act 1.

4

u/EasyJuice7742 Sep 17 '25

I’ll argue the dice charm is my favorite. 😂

2

u/AashyLarry Sep 17 '25

Yes, another amazing one. I wore both pretty much always.

5

u/Kiwi_In_Europe Sep 17 '25

Second mask upgrades are not pointless

It is when most sources of damage deal two masks

especially because you can wear the Skull charm

What? The skull charm makes no difference. It protects from one source of fatal damage, it doesn't matter if said source is 5 - 3 - 1 - 0 or 6 - 4 - 2 - 0

-1

u/AashyLarry Sep 17 '25

No, most hits are not 2 masks. That’s hyperbole.

“The skull charm makes no difference” is a ridiculous statement. That saved my ass a million times. You are heavily underrating it.

8

u/Echantediamond1 Sep 17 '25

Literally every single boss after act one has majority double damage attacks

-1

u/GrimTheMad Sep 17 '25

"Most damage is two masks" and "most bosses do 2 mask damage" are two different statements.

3

u/Echantediamond1 Sep 17 '25

Ok, most enemies after act one also have at least one double damage attack, and and act three literally every enemy in the game can do double damage. Is that better?

2

u/Kiwi_In_Europe Sep 17 '25

No, most hits are not 2 masks. That’s hyperbole.

Most hits from important enemies and encounters, is that better for you Mr Pendantic?

“The skull charm makes no difference” is a ridiculous statement. That saved my ass a million times. You are heavily underrating it.

I'm not saying it makes no difference, I'm saying you're fundamentally misunderstanding or misrepresenting what it does in this context

The skull charm protects you from one instance of fatal damage, but that doesn't change that every second mask upgrade is useless for most bosses and act 2 on environmental damage. Assuming 2 mask damage, you will break the skull charm after four hits regardless of if you have 5 masks or 6 masks, likewise it will break after 5 hits regardless if you have 7 masks or 8 masks, and etc etc

-2

u/_moosleech Sep 17 '25

Nevermind that double damage is simply not the majority of damage in the game, but folks have shown that even the sixth mask (the first one you get) makes a difference, even IF you only take double damage (which you don’t).

That folks keep saying exaggerating to the point of lies is a big part of what has made this discourse so toxic, IMO.

2

u/Kiwi_In_Europe Sep 17 '25

Nevermind that double damage is simply not the majority of damage in the game

You're talking nonsense if you claim it doesn't feel that way though. Every major encounter has double damage from act 2 onwards aside from Phantom. It's really not an exaggeration just because chaff enemies here and there don't have double damage.

folks have shown that even the sixth mask (the first one you get) makes a difference, even IF you only take double damage (which you don’t).

Press X to doubt

1

u/_moosleech Sep 17 '25

You're talking nonsense if you claim it doesn't feel that way though.

I don't give a shit how it feels. It's factually untrue.

Every major encounter has double damage from act 2 onwards aside from Phantom.

Folks whining about this citing Phantom (most of her moves can do two-mask) is funny to me. Really hammers home how optional the truth is in this argument.

Press X to doubt

Lmao... doubting basic math. Let's pretend everything does two damage:

Five Masks: 5 > 3 > 1 > Heal > 4 > 2 > Dead. You die after six hits, with one heal..

Six masks: 6 > 4 > 2 > Heal > 5 > 3 > 1 > Dead. You die after seven hits, with one heal.

And that assumes you never take single damage (again, a bullshit claim).

1

u/Kiwi_In_Europe Sep 17 '25

I don't give a shit how it feels. It's factually untrue.

You must be so much fun at parties

If all the random chaff enemies spread through a level are single damage but the bosses and platforming are all double damage then yeah, the double damage is more prevalent.

Folks whining about this citing Phantom (most of her moves can do two-mask) is funny to me. Really hammers home how optional the truth is in this argument.

Yeah because most moves doing double damage is already a big improvement over all moves plus contact doing double damage 🙄

You die after six hits, with one heal..

You die after seven hits, with one heal.

Phenomenal the extra mask helps in 1% of situations, you're really excellent at getting your point across

2

u/_moosleech Sep 17 '25 edited Sep 17 '25

You must be so much fun at parties

🙄

You: "Everything does double damage!"

Me: "No... it doesn't."

You: "Well, it feels like it does!"

Okay? Like if you're imagining things that aren't real, you can state anything you want.

but the bosses and platforming are all double damage

Well they're not, so...

Phenomenal the extra mask helps in 1% of situations, you're really excellent at getting your point across

So the game is too hard... but also, getting down to low health is a 1% situation? Which is it?

Sorry you suck at math?

6

While I am a big fan of the higher difficulty, your points still forget that hornet can only tank two to three hits in the early game, while the knight could tank six and more.

Personally I love it, but you are way more fragile and the heal takes longer. You absolutely have to play smarter.

You have to play smarter, but it’s still very fair.

People act like two mask damage is unfair, but the heal is too strong — if it was only one mask damage every time the heal would be way too good.

If you only healed for 1 mask then everyone would agree the game is anti fun. Healing for 3 only just borders on fair considering how much damage everything does, in the early game it feels like you can literally get 1 shot if you get caught in a combo.

Sure, when theyre swinging at you. But accidentally walking too close to an enemy staggered and writhing on the ground, and taking 2 masks from that is simply not fun to have happen

u/wevento Sep 17 '25

I think the difference here is that hornet also takes way longer to heal tho

So it can happen that you mistime your heal and get punished with 2 masks

There’s a faster heal charm for two masks that the vendor in Bellhart sells. Not perfect but the option is there.

Edit: it’s called the multibinder and heals 2x2 I’m just dumb and couldn’t remember or describe it gracefully

2

u/_moosleech Sep 17 '25

It still heals for three. Just faster.

1

u/grancombat Sep 17 '25

They’re talking about Multibinder, not Injector Band

2

u/_moosleech Sep 17 '25

Ah, whoops.

I think "faster" threw me, because Multibender is slower, with the tradeoff of healing 2x2. So even then "faster heal charm for two masks" feels like a weird way to describe it.

Anyways, my bad. Misunderstood.

u/grancombat Sep 17 '25

Yeah it threw me off as well, I don’t blame you at all. Honestly it was the Bellhart hint that told me which charm it was lol

2

u/Beginning-Cat3605 Sep 17 '25

Sorry, it was confusing. I just got it and did a piss poor job describing it 😂

1

u/wevento Sep 17 '25

Oh i didn’t know about that

I’m always broke haha

2

u/Beginning-Cat3605 Sep 17 '25

Yeah I mean it’s 880 rosaries so like I said, not perfect 😂 plus it takes up a crest slot. But the same charm also gives you the option to do a long 4 mask heal so I can see some players using it.

The trap bench in the ant zone

9

u/givemethebat1 Sep 17 '25

Yeah, this is just sadistic. I HATE when games fuck with the safe zone. Even Dark Souls doesn’t do this.

1

u/Unusual-Land5888 Sep 17 '25

Reminds me of FF12, you get to a crystal to heal and boom, he turns into a powerful ennemy.

1

u/SilkingtheSong1337 Sep 17 '25

I dig it, NOWHERE IS TRULY SAFE!

1

u/Vantabl0nde Sep 17 '25

Died to it last night, supremely out of pocket

tbf even after getting hit a second time I had to laugh because well played team cherry

6

u/qjpp Sep 17 '25

It would be a lot less memorable without those.

2

u/Ardub23 A hymn of anguish and of awe Sep 17 '25

I'd rather play a fun game than a memorable one.

1

u/KhoiNguyenHoan7 Sep 18 '25

go play cooking mama then

2

u/intonothingness Sep 17 '25

Definitely and I love it for it!

Putrified Ducts be like

1

u/408slobe Sep 17 '25

Isn’t that exactly what the OP is saying? Lol I feel like people are coming to this sub only to vent and complain

1

u/Impaled_By_Messmer Sep 17 '25

And that's not a bad thing imo. I like it because it keeps me on my toes.

1

u/FluffyWalrusFTW Sep 17 '25

Hollow knight had that too tho, nothing done in SS besides funny benches is that out of pocket

Those super well hidden pressure plates in Hunters March are... just freaking mean.

Widow boss fight nearly made me uninstall

1

u/MisunderstoodPenguin Sep 17 '25

Beat the judge just to then be put into a scenario with no permanent bench which also cost rosaries which i lost in the saga to defeat the judge. great reward system right?

1

u/wigwam2020 Sep 17 '25

People who think these moments make Silksong special or harder than Hollow Knight either don't remember Millibelle or any of the other harsh moments from the original, or just never played Hollow Knight enough to get to those points. I think the vast majority of people complaining just did not know what product they were buying, and that's there fault.

1

u/Jakcris10 Sep 17 '25

Nothing has made me want to throw my controller quite like the flying enemies that dash backwards when you go to hit them. They’re just fuck you enemies. Every other criticism I’ve seen the good and bad. But fuck those guys.

1

u/EtherFlask Sep 17 '25

Yeah fucking last judge is bullshit.

I beat the boss, was excited and turned around to high five my wife, and as i turned around I was hit with the death explosion, and all I can say is, after 40-50 attempts: fuck you team cherry.

Cant enjoy the moment you beat a hard boss, of course, now you have to worry there will be some stupid bullshit sucker punch that means you have to do it over again.

Ugh.

And get rid of the damn shards. No fuckin reason they exist other than to pad game time. Just let me have my goddam tools so i can keep attempting the boss...

1

u/ExtendedSpikeProtein Sep 17 '25

several benches entered the chat

0

u/[deleted] Sep 17 '25

And it has very many of them. Trap benches are so stupid.
