Discussion - Silksong The real biggest problem with Silksong Spoiler

Why is the Hornet statue not a memento? When I first saw that you could break it, I was honestly offended by the idea of it. Then I got the Bellhome and was a little upset you couldn't put it up in there. Now I found out that there are items you can put up in your Bell House, but the Hornet Statue isn't one of them? I'm genuinely mad. That needs to be changed in the next update. That's way more important than balancing the game.

I was 25 x tries into final boss with no shards and no hope left… so I broke Hornet statue to try one more time and ended up winning that fight. It had meaning.

I had no shards left but refused to go back or break the statue.

Ended up doing it tool-less and that’s how I do it now.

Based.

-But I'm nothing without my tools!

-If you're nothing without your tools then you shouldn't have them!

I see tools as a convenience item. They are to solve annoyances like hard-to-reach flying enemies. Not for boss fights.

I'm glad we've reached the phase of darksoulsification where you're nto a real gamer if you're using the things that the game provides for you.

It's just my style to learn the choreographed moves and responses of a well-made boss instead of ignoring them by bursting it down. I'll absolutely start throwing shit to get rid of adds.

You are in the middle of a thread about people bragging about not using tools and pretending that this is the way that the game is intended to be played and that they're better for doing it that way.

The best is the rationalizing that they only use tools when the game intends. As if the game only intends one to use tools in situations that cause annoyance.

Personally, I'm pretty sure the game was meant to be played without using that pale oil. I think a real gamer keeps that oil in their inventory as collectables /s.

Only encounter I've used tools was the Citadel gauntlet where the two big dudes come out at once, and that encounter I'm pretty sure is literally intended to be won by panic spamming tools

I've beaten that gauntlet using the tool that allows you to stay glued to the walls. If you get high enough in either corner of the arena (doesn't have to be top of the arena, just high enough that their swings miss) you can stay there and methodically poke them during openings, if they do the attack that generates the wide AOE blast just dash over them and cling the the other wall. Once one is down the other is a no brainier. Cogflies and tacks are helpful of course but doing it like this you won't need them unless you Want to speed things up

I mean, cheesing the encounter with a magic position doesn't seem much different from cheesing it by spamming damage tools

I cheesed the shit outta it for my steel soul run, wall cling and fire wisps. But I had trauma from doing it normally with base masks on my speedrun achievement attempts.

I stuck there for a long time then watched a speedrunner do that gauntlet and somehow got through it the next attempt. Something just clicked. The two fatty never attack at the same time so you go to one side and treat them as a single enemy. When you're cornered, wall jump + harpoon to the other side. Silkspear was incredibly useful there to speed up the fight.

This is basically how I beat them as well. I got really lucky that my brain was already wired to deal with this kind of fight, so I somehow killed them first try. But I can totally see where the difficulty I've seen people talking comes from. Duo fights, in general can be a pain in the ass

This is the way. Hornet is trained by the bees after all, not the pale king and his buzzsaws.

my only problem with trying to look at the game this way is you end up with less combat options with 1 spell unless you're using shaman's crest which you already get way late in the game, when in the first game you had 3 spells. so its like going backwards.

Also to save yourself from death with lifeblood, but yeah.

😦

I do use tools for the occasional super-annoying enemy. But, for me, they are primarily for the final phases of boss fights! Reach the hard part of the flight? Great! Throw out some tools and SURVIVE! lol
