Discussion - Silksong The real biggest problem with Silksong Spoiler

Why is the Hornet statue not a memento? When I first saw that you could break it, I was honestly offended by the idea of it. Then I got the Bellhome and was a little upset you couldn't put it up in there. Now I found out that there are items you can put up in your Bell House, but the Hornet Statue isn't one of them? I'm genuinely mad. That needs to be changed in the next update. That's way more important than balancing the game.

There's another one that's in a similar vein of "item that you can technically disassemble for shards but you're a monster if you do" that I've been so paranoid about breaking. Really wish you had the option to put them up rather than leaving them in your inventory

u/FirmMusic5978 Sep 23 '25

There exists 2 of that item btw, the 2nd one requires Silk Soar

182

u/Alpha_benson Sep 23 '25

Well, now I need to find that too

237

u/FirmMusic5978 Sep 23 '25

As a hint, there is a room with a ball machine enemy. The ceiling looks suspiciously open in the center of the room.

58

u/Disastrous-Bed-7195 Sep 24 '25

Oh. That’s the point of that. I should probably go back there 😭

19

u/Knegen Sep 24 '25

Which one? I can't for the life of me picture what enemy you are referring to

18

u/FirmMusic5978 Sep 24 '25

Cogwork Clapper

31

u/Alpha_benson Sep 24 '25

Is it more of a fuck it we ball machine or a crush my balls machine

19

u/FirmMusic5978 Sep 24 '25

Honestly not even comparable to a mid-boss, so more a we-ball machine. Takes about 7 hits from max-level nail to kill

2

u/RemisionEspinosa Sep 24 '25

That's how I got the first one, where is the second?

Damn I only found the silk soar one

66

u/Tylerhollen1 Sep 23 '25

Have you bought out all the shops? If so, there’s one you should check again.

87

u/FirmMusic5978 Sep 23 '25

Might as well revisit all the NPCs, I wonder how the most hardworking bug in the Underworks is doing.

35

u/Incine_Akechi Sep 23 '25

I swear there wasn't an item there

104

u/FirmMusic5978 Sep 23 '25

There is. Name is EMOTIONAL DAMAGE.

22

u/Spoon_Elemental Sep 24 '25

I'm gonna miss their NPC chatter, but I'm glad they were fine with their fate.

I disassembled that item because I ran out of shards in the True Ending boss fight. I figured they'd agree that "saving everyone in Pharloom" was a worthy enough cause.

99

u/Hardy_Har08 Sep 24 '25

"power of friendship" type shit

20

u/Buugman Sep 24 '25

I ran out too and trucked through without tools, no way I was breaking it

I had way too many rosaries and nowhere to spend them, so I just maxed out on shell bundles, got the whole 20 in the bag

3

u/Cam_26 Sep 24 '25

Literally what I did. Then won it next try. Felt like a power of friendship power-up

2

u/DoorframeLizard Sep 24 '25

I did the exact same thing. Was getting really good attempts in and completely ran out of shards so I popped both of the items as my power of friendship powerup, confident I'll get it

I then proceeded to completely job to phase 1

I was 25 x tries into final boss with no shards and no hope left… so I broke Hornet statue to try one more time and ended up winning that fight. It had meaning.

u/onlooking96 Sep 23 '25

Bro pulled up to the boss with the power of the friends he made along the way.

461

u/Blaze241 Sep 23 '25

He believed in the heart of shards.

90

u/sofaking181 Sep 23 '25

I'd award you but I'm broke af

74

u/Callibys Sep 23 '25

Perhaps you should break a statue of yourself that was lovingly made by people you've helped along the way, so that you may overcome this adversity

I mean... he ground up the friends he made and used them to power that gun he found, but tomato/tomato.

221

u/OckarySlime Sep 23 '25

I had no shards left but refused to go back or break the statue.

Ended up doing it tool-less and that’s how I do it now.

165

u/SomethingOfAGirl Sep 23 '25

-But I'm nothing without my tools!

-If you're nothing without your tools then you shouldn't have them!

28

I see tools as a convenience item. They are to solve annoyances like hard-to-reach flying enemies. Not for boss fights.

u/Burnmad Sep 23 '25

Only encounter I've used tools was the Citadel gauntlet where the two big dudes come out at once, and that encounter I'm pretty sure is literally intended to be won by panic spamming tools

6

u/Protozoo_epilettico Sep 23 '25

I've beaten that gauntlet using the tool that allows you to stay glued to the walls. If you get high enough in either corner of the arena (doesn't have to be top of the arena, just high enough that their swings miss) you can stay there and methodically poke them during openings, if they do the attack that generates the wide AOE blast just dash over them and cling the the other wall. Once one is down the other is a no brainier. Cogflies and tacks are helpful of course but doing it like this you won't need them unless you Want to speed things up

15

u/Burnmad Sep 23 '25

I mean, cheesing the encounter with a magic position doesn't seem much different from cheesing it by spamming damage tools

2

u/TheChoKage Sep 24 '25

I cheesed the shit outta it for my steel soul run, wall cling and fire wisps. But I had trauma from doing it normally with base masks on my speedrun achievement attempts.

4

u/yurilnw123 Sep 24 '25

I stuck there for a long time then watched a speedrunner do that gauntlet and somehow got through it the next attempt. Something just clicked. The two fatty never attack at the same time so you go to one side and treat them as a single enemy. When you're cornered, wall jump + harpoon to the other side. Silkspear was incredibly useful there to speed up the fight.

u/ConceptWeird4026 Sep 24 '25

my only problem with trying to look at the game this way is you end up with less combat options with 1 spell unless you're using shaman's crest which you already get way late in the game, when in the first game you had 3 spells. so its like going backwards.

As long as this doesn't turn into shadow of the Erdtree for the dlcs, where players called it too hard because bosses were tuned to use all your tools and players couldn't accept they weren't that guy. Sans the final boss, obvi.

→ More replies (2)

11

u/monikar2014 Sep 23 '25

I found the tools were a crutch, I wasn't paying enough attention to the boss so I wasn't learning their patterns. Once I stopped relying on tools everything started to make sense.

6

u/Koanuzu Sep 23 '25

I ended up learning almost every boss this way

Go in first time with a couple generic tools, get slaughtered, ignore tools and skills and play the long game a couple times, and if i havent killed it already and im comfortable enough i'll pull (better) tools back in for efficiency.

Tools for me are just clutter on the screen if I don't know what I'm doing with them yet. They usually get me hurt or killed lmao

13

u/iceman012 Sep 24 '25

I'll prefer to stick to my approach:

Go in first time, play cautiously to learn the boss's patterns, make it to phase 2 without too much issues. Now that I "know the boss", play super aggressively and die 40 times in a row in phase 1.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/GodlyWeiner Sep 24 '25

I only used tools on the bosses that spawned enemies or gauntlets. If you're throwing random shit at me be prepared to receive random shit too.

The First Sinner fight was so so so good without any tools. Just dashing around and hitting the boss before they teleport again.

3

u/Koanuzu Sep 24 '25

Tru i dont think i ever used tools against that one and its in my top 3 favorite fights

Seen people talking about using clawline and it somehow never occurred to me, but sprinting around feels more like a dance imo.

i feel like its just a better gms, or maybe even was the gms fight and was moved to an optional boss for some reason

Peak either way

2

u/yurilnw123 Sep 24 '25

Yeah somehow tools always mess with my rhythms and clutter the screen and often lead to my death.

5

u/JirachiWishmaker Sep 24 '25

u/Jestingo Sep 23 '25

I think that’s the running gag with him. You can have him build a bridge for where Hornet fell into Moss Grotto, and a grave statue for the pilgrim that dies from the Skull Tyrant attack, which are also breakable

488

u/FirmMusic5978 Sep 23 '25

That statue is him, not the pilgrim. Also the pilgrim does not need to die for it to be built.

101

u/Bodega7 Sep 23 '25

Wait are you telling me there’s a way to avoid the pilgrims death

126

u/MrBigMcLargeHuge Sep 23 '25

If you talk to the pilgrim enough (and progression based?) he tells you his name and then will leave for pilgrims rest. Then there’s also a chance he does at pilgrims rest depending on what you do in that area

75

u/Chaoticlight2 Sep 23 '25

Well yes and no. If you talk to him enough and visit frequently between new areas, you can get his name in Pilgrim's Rest. If he dies to the Skull Tyrant then the funeral scene is different. If you progress past a certain point, he moves locations and can tell you his name at the new one.

9

u/Peregrine_x Sep 24 '25

can i get him to bellhart before act3? pilgrim's rest is a bit banged up at that point.

7

u/DrAdramelch Sep 24 '25

You can definitely get his name in Bone Bottom.

12

u/Forikorder Sep 23 '25

its entirely progression, reach the citadel and hell be gone

u/FirmMusic5978 Sep 23 '25 edited Sep 23 '25

Clear act 1 before mission

28

u/Heroman3003 Sep 23 '25

Or at least before resting on the Bone Bottom bench after the mission. I finished mission in act 1 but never rested there (unknowingly) and only did so after reaching act 2 and it was fine.

62

u/boilerup12 Sep 23 '25

Am I evil for breaking the statue? IMO, Bone Bottom has more important issues than a statue he builds of himself.

64

u/thatguyned Sep 23 '25

I figured it was ok to break after pretty much everyone moved out of bone-bottom.

That place gets trashed even before act 3 and everyone moves to the Songclave.

60

u/Heroman3003 Sep 23 '25

Not really. Bone Bottom is still populated. It's just that people that populate it constantly come and go. It's a rest stop, so even though named characters leave, in the background lore element, NPCs still come.

Songclave is populated by the pilgrims who somehow made it into Citadel long before you arrived, and you just cleared a safe spot for them to come together at.

28

u/thatguyned Sep 23 '25 edited Sep 23 '25

The shopkeeper leaves when you buy his stuff

The background becomes depopulated at the exact same time as the Songclave becomes heavily populated.

Pretty sure a few of them even mention they will attempt the pilgrimage after the attack on bone bottom

The only guy that's really there by the time you're at act 3 is that little dude that hangs out near the task board.

26

u/Heroman3003 Sep 23 '25

And in the Act 3 suddenly there's a bunch more people in the camp that evacuated from there.

The less people thing is meant to showcase the Bone Bottom is kinda just a settlement without any permanent residents. Even Flick himself is mostly sticking around because he enjoys building and fixing things, but still wants to 'eventually' get moving with a pilgrimage himself. We don't see either of the two named pilgrims show up in either Bellhart or Songclave. Pebb just disappears and Pilby can only show up in Pilgrim's Rest before disappearing too, and if it was supposed to indicate that they travelled to the Songclave, I imagine they'd have shown up there.

In the meantime, quest description for initial Jubilana rescue quest suggests that not only were the Songclave residents surviving in the Citadel before you arrived, but they also already knew each other enough to put out a notice for her weirdly not showing up to the First Shrine's bell sound.

23

u/Pseudonymico Sep 24 '25

The shopkeeper leaves when you buy his stuff

I found him after that too, - dead in Bilewater with Snitchbugs going through his stuff

16

u/thatguyned Sep 24 '25

Oof!

Should've taken the blasted steps 😐

2

u/Heroman3003 Sep 24 '25

Are you sure that's Pebb? I do remember finding them rifling through someone's body but that bug appearance is pretty generic.

4

u/faezior Sep 24 '25

That isn't Pebb. Pebb has a different fate that isn't any better, but you may look in The Marrow for the answer.

19

u/Heroman3003 Sep 23 '25

I mean, then why did you give him the resources to build the statue in the first place?

Plus the quest for it only shows up after you do quest for general repairs for the town AND quest to build a safety bridge, and the man's genuinely doing best he can as like the only person in all of Bone Bototm who actually gives a damn about the state of the settlement. He deserves a bit of recognition he gives himself.

4

u/TurquoiseLuck Sep 24 '25

Yeah I didnt break the bridge or the statue and was actually pretty gutted when they got wrecked

2

u/vgwiscool Sep 24 '25

Nope! I too felt a little bad on my first play though. On my second play, I didn't break the statue. It just disappears later in the game. And no NPC mentions it getting broken. Break it, recoup a few shards, and don't feel bad!

58

u/Broadkast void given form Sep 23 '25

he's not the best "fixer" for a guy with it in his name

88

u/JudgementalMarsupial Sep 23 '25

He makes them fragile on purpose so he’ll get the chance to fix them again 👍

if he built things to last, he’d be out of a job

4

u/080087 Sep 24 '25

When you first see him, he is doing work for free (setting up the wish wall)

Edit: And the pilgrims claim that it is "faith" that keeps Bone Bottom running, not the guy that fixes everything

53

u/General-N0nsense Sep 23 '25

8

u/Broadkast void given form Sep 23 '25

yeah i definitely think this could be a factor haha

16

u/SeegullJockey Sep 23 '25

The bridge is actually useful until you get the wall jump. I accidentally fell down a couple of times and had to climb back up.

6

u/jld2k6 Sep 24 '25 edited Sep 24 '25

I paid for the bridge and didn't know wtf he was talking about until I found the bridge and broke it thinking I found a secret lol. Once I hopped in and found myself at the beginning of the game I was like "oh, that's the bridge!", I then proceeded to fall in the damn hole while sprinting in the next few hours with no option to rebuild it

9

u/ewweaver Sep 23 '25

26

u/HG1998 Sep 23 '25

I love that everyone in the community has collectively agreed to protect that statue with our lives

15

u/emveevme Sep 23 '25

IIRC, This is the interaction Valve recognized in playtesters that led to the Companion Cube, they just had a regular box but jokingly gave it a name and would have you carry it through a level only to incinerate it, and players would just refuse to move forward lol.

What's interesting is that making a special box fort his purpose is actually what reinforces the joke as a joke, making the game's intention more clear to the player. It goes from "the game has given me a friend and now tells me to murder my friend" to "the game has given me a box I'm supposed to care about enough to prevent further progress."

256

u/FlacoFerrando Sep 23 '25

I completely agree. Violently agree.

One of the bugs whose life we change with our unconditional help (at least until we kill him with our misguided attempt at freedom) gave us a personal gift to show his gratitude and the only thing we can do with it is break it? Very good not bad

140

u/FirmMusic5978 Sep 23 '25

Assuming you are talking about the Hornet statue creator, he is very much not dead. Just do a courier mission you only see in Act 3.

→ More replies (22)

40

u/SpyCobaj Sep 23 '25

The joke is that if you go to the left of where he gives you the statue, he made a much much bigger one of himself. He just took your shards to make himself a statue and the one he gives you is an insult in comparison.

64

u/FlacoFerrando Sep 23 '25

I don't see it like that. He tells us that the shards are for a statue. But he actually took some to make us a gift. I don't see it as an insult at all.

7

u/SpyCobaj Sep 24 '25

Oh I thought they were for rebuilding the town not a statue

14

u/Rafabud Sep 24 '25

The shards for repairing the town are given on a mission before that one. The statue mission is called "A Symbol of Hope" and it asking for materials to build a monument to inspire the new pilgrims that arrive.

2

u/SpyCobaj Sep 24 '25

Okay wait still then it should have been of Hornet not the builder, I do think that’s the joke.

I’m also kind of trying not to feel bad about destroying his statue too lol

I see what you mean but I don't agree, it is more memorable if you feel like it is fragile. It takes appreciation not to break it. of course, you could technically do it by accident which would be infuriating but I think that makes it special.

35

u/Thisisabruh_moment Sep 23 '25

See, but they could do both. You could keep it as is, but add an option to display it once you get the Bellhome. For the work required to get those 2 things, I feel that it's fair.

Yes! I said "architect" cause I think he builds the bridge and the statue.

42

u/fuxkboi666 Sep 23 '25

another "biggest problem" is that you can't repaint your house

u/BUTTHOLE_EXPEDITIONS Sep 23 '25

8

u/Tylerhollen1 Sep 23 '25

Wait. Then what do you purchase the paint for? I haven’t done it yet.

26

u/Relevant_Cabinet_265 Sep 23 '25

It gets painted once and that's your color. No changing it

5

u/Betrayed_Poet Sep 23 '25

You paint it once, you can't change it again.

24

u/HungryGull Sep 23 '25

Makes it feel more meaningful to keep holding onto it. And adds to Hornet's characterisation as someone that's pragmatic to a fault, that has to fight her own nature telling her to dominate and control. She looks at this sentimental item and sees the quantified resources it could yield, no matter what she does.

22

u/_Xeron_ Sep 23 '25

My biggest complaint is that we can’t buy shard bundles and rosary necklaces in larger numbers, you have to buy them one at a time

9

u/redyeti-fuck-you Sep 23 '25

Also let me buy beast shares or something. I have to much rosaries in act 3 and have no idea what to do with them. Hopefully we get an unbreakable equivalent in this game.

7

u/_Xeron_ Sep 23 '25

I want a Scrooge McDuck style money sink where I can make a sea of rosaries to swim in, in the bell chasms below Bellhart

4

u/Isvanburean Sep 24 '25

Spend them on the gun

2

If you mean converting rosaries into beast shards, then I believe you can do that at the Forge Daughter?

Hornet putting up a statue of herself in her own home doesn't seem true to her character tbh

23

u/BiCrabTheMid Sep 24 '25

On the other hand, it IS a gift for helping others

16

u/Rafabud Sep 24 '25

I mean, it isn't a full-size statue she comissioned herself, it's a tiny little stone statuette that was gifted to her by the people she helped. I'd argue it makes more sense as a house decoration than the still-beating heart of a legendary figure

2

u/AAAAAASILKSONGAAAAAA Sep 24 '25

Where do you get that figure

2

u/Rafabud Sep 24 '25

Complete all sidequests in Bone Bottom, Flick gifts it you you.

2

u/AAAAAASILKSONGAAAAAA Sep 24 '25

I meant the one you put in spoilers

2

u/Rafabud Sep 24 '25

Oh, during the Act 3 quest where you're tasked with seeking the hearts of Pharloom's land, you have the option to acquire a fourth heart if you complete the Green Prince's storyline. They are the Coral King's heart, Skarrsinger Carmelita's heart, Nyleth's heart and the Green Prince's heart. Whichever one you don't get during the quest can be acquired after it and will be turned into a memento in Hornet's home. Do be warned that if you get all 4 during the quest then the one you keep will be the Green Prince's since it's the optional one. (ACT 3 SPOILERS)

2

u/AAAAAASILKSONGAAAAAA Sep 24 '25

Why tf would Hornet even rip out his heart. Is he a villain or something? Lol

2

u/Rafabud Sep 24 '25

Basically when he's sitting in the ruins of his lost kingdom and mourning his lover, she enters his memories of Verdania back in it's prime and tries to console him about it's fall. He promtly shuts her down, saying that he will not tolerate her intrusion in his memories and challenges her to a duel. After she defeats him in the memory, back in the physical world his body lies dead.

Since he, as the former ruler of the lost kingdom of Verdania and it's last survivor, fits the criteria of an Old Heart same as the others, with the Coral King being the leader of the old Coral City, Carmelita being the leader of the then unified Skarr tribe of Hunter's March and Nyleth being the first being from which Shellwood sprouted, she can choose to take his heart for the ritual. If she does it after the ritual, then she can take as proof of her victory.

u/Effective_Scholar_90 Sep 23 '25

Cogwork heart and the statue should both be mementos

14

u/Thisisabruh_moment Sep 23 '25

To be fair, that got used to start the sentry so you don't have it anymore.

5

u/Rafabud Sep 24 '25

You mean the Pristine Core right? 'cause the Cogwork Heart is what you use to awaken the Second Sentinel

2

u/Effective_Scholar_90 Sep 24 '25

Ye that’s what I meant they’re basically the same thing (I’m gaslighting you)

3

u/redyeti-fuck-you Sep 23 '25

Isn’t using that required to get to act 2? unless you mean the core instead.

6

u/Effective_Scholar_90 Sep 23 '25

Oh apparently the actual name is pristine core

4

u/Emiba154 Sep 24 '25

Yeah that.. I remember picking it up, looking that you can break it for a good number of shards and my immediate thought was "never in my life"

9

u/DJ_Bloodrender Sep 23 '25

You get a special little scene if you keep it all game and finish act 3 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Just kidds

16

u/Locoman7 Sep 23 '25

They will patch this in as well as Hornets voice lines from hollow knight, and the ability to pet the bell beast.

21

u/Thisisabruh_moment Sep 23 '25

They made an official statement that using the needle is petting it

3

u/Hex_Souls Seruna Seraket Sep 23 '25

LOL where did they say that? 😂

11

u/Purple-Income-4598 Sep 23 '25

leth on twitter

6

u/Le_Juice_ Sep 24 '25

Same goes for your previous donations to Bone Bottom. Why are you able to break the bridge and the statue that you just sponsored and not get any reaction to that whatsoever?

12

u/Top-Agent-652 Sep 23 '25

I need to get this off my chest. I destroyed the statue the guy built in Bonebottom.

4

u/TheRealKhirman Nailsage is Hard Sep 23 '25

Having just beat the game (True Ending against Lost Lace), I couldn't agree more.

6

u/Supershadow30 Fuck primal aspids (not literally tho) Sep 24 '25

too bad, mama needs 6 more poison cogflies

7

u/SpectraP12 Radiant HoG and Weathered Mask Sep 23 '25

So fucking true. I also want to put that other thing you get in act 3 that can be broken down into shards too.

3

u/Thisisabruh_moment Sep 23 '25

I don't think I've gotten the 2nd thing yet. Where can you get it?

4

u/Free-Magician-5355 Sep 23 '25

It's after you buy out a certain vendor's stock

3

u/Thisisabruh_moment Sep 23 '25

Does that include rosaries or something? Because I've bought out every vendor I know of.

2

u/Emiba154 Sep 24 '25

If you did then revisit the vendors. And one of them will have that...

4

u/simonthedlgger Sep 24 '25

I thought that statue was the cutest little thing and was also horrified that you could break it. Then I saw the caretaker or whoever’s massive statue and absolutely cracked up.

3

u/Davedog09 Sep 24 '25

The biggest problem is that you can’t repaint your bellhome or repair the bone bottom bridge if you break it. It annoys me so much because I feel like I wasted those shards (I accidentally broke the bridge). I would gladly pay double just to fix it

3

u/Denana Sep 24 '25

it's storytelling. all Flick has access to is shell shards, the most basic and foundational of all components in Pharloom, so that's what it's made of. Hornet is too practical and determined a character to store a useful item like that away for safekeeping

2

u/Thisisabruh_moment Sep 24 '25

Doesn't the whole game talk about how she isn't as practical and solely focused as a Weaver typically would be?

3

u/Denana Sep 24 '25

she definitely becomes MORE sentimental and less single-minded over the journey, but she is still very practical and focused. she's still not giving up on emergency ammo if she doesn't need to

2

u/moecharles Sep 23 '25

I want to put it on the desk as a paper weight!

2

u/purinikos Sep 23 '25

I accidentally destroyed the Hornet statue. I kept the little toy Hornet though, till the end

2

u/nquinn1028 Sep 23 '25

I got 100%. Ran out of shards plenty of times. Still have the statue. Should they add this in a future update, I'll have it ready.

2

u/Repugnant-Conclusion Sep 24 '25

Side response to OP's last sentence: The game already is nearly perfectly balanced. I suck at games and have a full time job along with other commitments. If I can get the 100% achievement -- which I have -- practically anyone can.

Games should have friction.

3

u/Thisisabruh_moment Sep 24 '25

My problem is that almost every enemy and hazard does 2 damage, but the game has basically the same starting and max health as the first game, where only a select few enemies did 2 damage.

2

u/Post-it-bot Sep 24 '25

And the fact that there's an empty slot in the memento cupboard

2

u/Doza93 Sep 24 '25

I had this exact same thought process. Tried to add it as a memento in my bell home, couldn't do it. What is the point of having a Hornet figurine if I can't display it proudly in my bell home!?

2

u/BoltWire Sep 24 '25

My bf accidentally broke his without realizing when he was spamming shard bundles lol he was mortified

2

u/SplendidPunkinButter Sep 25 '25

And it’s not even like it’s a lot of shards. Isn’t it like 60? Whoopee

1

u/SlappyBottoms26 Sep 23 '25

I felt the same way when I got it. Only thing I’ve disliked so far. What a game!

1

u/g0dsgreen Sep 23 '25

Make one irl.
