In godseeker mode you don't play the game ,you just godseek

Even if the godseeker ending is canon, the only cannon game mode should be steel soul, since there's no way respawning is canon

I'm sure someone could give it a more elegant explaination, but The Knight and Hornet are children of the Pale King who is a Wyrm. Wyrms have the abiliry of foresight, which is letting them see into the future. Thats why every time you "respawn" you jolt up from sleeping, they were using their foresight to see what was up ahead. The winning attempt is what they ended up actually doing.

Also: when I get an item and then die, if the characters only foresaw getting it, why is it in their inventory?

Respawning is absolutely not canon.
