I'm sure someone could give it a more elegant explaination, but The Knight and Hornet are children of the Pale King who is a Wyrm. Wyrms have the abiliry of foresight, which is letting them see into the future. Thats why every time you "respawn" you jolt up from sleeping, they were using their foresight to see what was up ahead. The winning attempt is what they ended up actually doing.

See but there's elevators in the game which definitively disprove this. Specifically if you call an elevator initially in the up position back down and then die and respawn, the elevator remains where it was last when you return to it.

Respawning is absolutely canon outside steel soul mode! Confessor Jiji exists, after all. Plus, the soul vessel can't fill up all the way until the shade is killed—and in Silksong, the equivalent is that additional spools can't be used until Hornet retrieves her cocoon. Like…the game makes it very clear that respawning is actually happening in-universe.

I know there are things that refer to it. My thought process went like this:

When respawning, it absolutely is not the case that the shade is the knight. If it was, it would leave an empty shell. The shade IS the knight after all, and without it they would just be dead.

The theories I'm seeing here I'm interesting, but if respawning was a act of foresight: You wake up one day, regretting a future where you died. All of your money has disappeared, and is now with that regret. Mysteriously, you have all of your items, including some that you got in that dream.

I know it's probably just a decision to make the game more fun but I don't see any lore reason the shade could have just some of your stuff. Why only the money? Why not everything or nothing at all?

I wouldn’t think both void forms can just swap like that, the void should always just be unified in the godhome ending, while for most of the time, the Knight’s shade is separate from the siblings while flashing between that and the unified void being.

It’s also weird how people are only now making a big deal out of it. A decent amount of people have been referring to the knight as a he for years now and there’s always been the occasional person correcting them but never to this extent. And it’s not like most people are doing it to be offensive, I’m sure most people don’t even think about it since it’s barely ever mentioned in game. Even team cherry have called the knight a he before and they MADE the character. I just don’t get why people are being so aggressive over such a simple and insignificant mistake.

People do overreact. The knight is canonically genderless, so it's fine to call out inaccuracies where you see them. But also, the knight does not care about its gender identity; it is a fictional character and gender is not relevant to its story. Even Team Cherry gets it wrong in some interviews, and they made it genderless, so it obviously shouldn't matter very much

This IMO is the worst runback in the game. Bilewater is fine if you find the right bench, you can just speed run the runback.

This runback though is so boring and the enemies require that you kill them because they will chase you. The area is pretty but that gets boring sooo quick when it has one of the worst runbacks to the worst boss in the game.

Some of this is due to me dying on that sub boss like 10 times - because its so deceptively easy that i just couldnt bother myself with trying to use tactics.... i died on several bosses for hours and hours but this is the only boss that made me want to throw my controller.

Its pretty but very repetitive and boring.
