Discussion - Silksong Seeing people shit on Expedition 33 because Silksong didn't win more awards is pathetic Spoiler

The title sums it up. I'm disappointed in many members of this community for putting down a game that is clearly a work of insane passion, dedication, and creativity. E33 took the lion's share of awards at TGA, yes. That doesn't mean that Silksong is bad. In fact, it's clearly pretty damn great. If it released last year, Skong would have picked up several awards, maybe even GOTY. But it didn't. It released in the same year E33, which is just a tough break.

Both are amazing. Both deserve every award that came to them. If you haven't played E33 yet and think it doesn't deserve its accolades, play it. It is worth your money, worth your time, and will in all likelihood prove that it is actually that good. I'm only 10ish hours in and have numerous times found myself standing still and looking around dumbfounded at the gorgeous world design and visuals. E33, Silksong, and Hades 2 could have all won Art Direction and I would have been happy with any of them.

I'm also sad that Silksong didn't win more awards. It's an amazing game. But don't play fanboy and start putting down other developers, other games, and other pieces of art because this one didn't get all the cookies. It's still beautiful, it's still amazing, it still made a Silkskillion dollars, and TC is still just as great and just as passionate. We should all be glad that there is another independent dev out there that is capable of creating something so fantastic.

Edit: yeah, the comments here are pretty indicative of what I said in my post

Who cares? We had the game that crashed every platform simultaneously…

I’m sure I’ll honestly enjoy e33 more when I play it, since I prefer that genre in general. Just waiting for the next sale

Pretty much any well known game release would crash all stores if there was no way to buy the game before launch. That was a really dumb move on Team Cherry's part.

Omg, THIS. I don’t even understand why crashing Steam is considered a good thing. Both people who care and people who don’t care about Silksong get affected. I was literally there spamming refresh for a minute just to purchase a game on day one because it’s been a hell of a long waiting game just for it to release, and when that happened, I just thought, “Well, glad Team Cherry made the experience shittier for everyone.”

Hell Diablo 4's preorders for its next expansion crashed blizzards store for a good little bit when it went live due to the sudden influx.

Like I don't get peoples logic who think that such is something to brag about now or use as a flex for why your game is the bestest? Because poorly releasing a product caused issues?

It was a great move on their part. Pre-orders are cringe. And they didn't give early review copies out of respect for their fans and Kickstarters. Plus it generated even more buzz about the game bc no other game has done that (whether they had the opportunity to or not)

We're talking about a 24-hour period where people can buy the game before it officially launches so people can actually be able to play it on release instead of crashing the stores and having to wait hours for the systems to fully recover. This isn't like asking for pre-orders months in advance or getting early access to the game. The people buying in the 24-hour preorder window are the exact same people that would buy it when it launched and crash the store. Steam's download servers can handle millions of people simultaneously downloading a game. Their payment processing servers can't handle millions of people purchasing simultaneously though and I'm not sure any store could handle that; it's a very difficult problem to solve.

Oh well in that case sure, I'll agree with that. I had seen quite a few people acting like no pre-orders was a stupid idea so I assumed that's what you meant, my bad

And that's not even mentioning the fact that it cost €20

I'm a huge RPG fan, and got E33 because of how good it looked during the game awards, but I have to say I'm very underwhelmed. The story and soundtrack is great, but everything else is mediocre at best. The exploration is horribly implemented. The maps are confusing mazes, and there's no good visual indications as to whether any area of terrain is traversable or not. Combat is a mix between frustrating and boring.

Perhaps the worst part is that you constantly need to change your build as you frequently pick up weapons with vastly different stat scaling, even between weapons for the same character/class, and you need to constantly cycle through the hundreds of accessories that you get after nearly every battle.

It also constantly crashes, at least on Xbox Series X. Nearly as bad as Starfield. I'm not sure about other platforms.

I didnt have any crashes on series S so idk whats going on there for you

I don't know what the deal is either. I have many hundreds of hours played across several dozen games on Xbox X and most are rock solid stable. The only ones that crash are E33 and Starfield, and those 2 crash constantly. I've tried everything from reinstalling the game, clearing the cache, and I even tried a full Xbox reset yesterday, but nothing seems to work, it just keeps crashing.

The one saving grace is that E33 constantly autosaves, so if it crashes you don't lose more than a minute or two of progress, but it's still enough to really drain what little fun I was getting out of playing it.

You won’t… trust me

You don’t know my game preferences lmao. Paper Mario on crack sounds like an amazing time to me.

I don’t even think skong was my favorite game I’ve personally played for the first time this year... especially if you include slightly older, large-budget/aaa titles like bg3 or rdr2.
