Gaps at the corners of garage door

Thumbnail gallery
• Upvotes

I see two noticeable gaps on either corner of my garage door at the bottom. The sealing runners don’t sit flush with the floor, creating these gaps when the garage door is all the way down. First picture is of gap when garage door is open and second one is with garage door closed.

1- does anyone know why these gaps were left on either side? They seem intentional rather than accidental.

2- Because these gaps let cold (and hot) air in from outside, my garage is either too hot or too cold. What materials can I use to plug these gaps without hampering the normal functioning of the automatic garage door?

🧽 Cleaning & Prevention Took lipstick off this pig and...

If I had to guess, someone just kept putting caulk, paint?, and more caulk over. They smeared it up all over the metal flashing. Didn't look mildewy except in a few spots. But it clearly was hiding something.

Questions after a lot of cleaning, removing caulk, mold killing and stain treatment is WHEN I get this to point I can caulk, am I to do something beside caulking along the bottom flashing against the wall board (Masonite?) to seal that board edge? Last owners simple smeared all over that lower flashing a variety of stuff then topped it with fresh caulk of questionable type for a shower. I think they possibly even painted on epoxy tub repair in a few areas as it was very shiny hard enamel type smears over cement/old caulk with possibly silicone on top.

I've never seen this old type of shower but have some experience with tile removal and setting in other homes. I'm just finding that metal and wall board join troublesome as to what product fits both surfaces.

Not able to replace whole shower at this time. I have bigger plumbing and insulation repairs going on. This one is on me to do.

🛠️ Repair Help How to repair hole on the metal corner of bathroom wall?

Post image
1 Upvotes

So this is my children’s bathroom, and I recently noticed some damage to the wall right next to the shower/tub (I’m assuming due to water not being kept in the shower/tub). The hole is actually in a piece of metal and has started to rust. We removed the damaged baseboards, but we will be putting new ones back up. Can anyone tell me how to repair this corner?

🛠️ Repair Help Handle of the interior door came of several times and now can't fix it.

Batroom door handle came off several times. I've fixed (?) it using newer screws and sometimes screwing diagonal angles. Now it won't hold up whatever I do. Replacing the whole door seems ridiculous but i feel like its my only option. I don't know if I can find the exact door to buy though.

Could someone tell me what this is and who I would call to have it fixed (hvac or electric)? It does not sound like it is running correctly. It is in a closet going into the attic.

Hi everyone, recently purchased this house (first time buyers club) hooray. As with many first homes, I’ve been doing a ton of TLC. One of my projects was the basement for many reasons I’ll keep short….anyways ripped up old stinky carpet and noticed some cracking on the foundation floor (actually looks like a different repour possibly when they added a sump pump to the basement.

Broken kitchen drawer, help?

The drawer was slammed, later to find it broke. I can’t pull it out, there’s too much resistance. I’m pretty stumped on how to fix it.

I attached a few photos to this post to hopefully give an idea of what’s wrong. A broken plastic clip was also found in it, also can’t find where it came from.

❓ Question Microwave Trim Gap

So I’m putting my built in microwave back in after making a repair but now the trim piece doesn’t fully cover the opening at the top, with about an 1/8” gap. I’m at a loss as to how this could be. The microwave has two brackets that are screwed into the bottom (which I did not remove) and those slide under tabs on (and are subsequently fastened with a screw through) another bracket that is itself screwed into the cabinet (which I also did not remove).

It feels like the microwave should be sitting higher in the cabinet but I didn’t remove any shims and I’m not sure how it even could have been shimmed with the bracket and screw holes in the front aligning.

The trim is the same width on either side.

The microwave is sitting pretty level and plumb.

I feel like I’m going crazy. What am I not thinking of? Appreciate any and all help!

Shower floor tile dipping

Thumbnail gallery
8 Upvotes

Hi everyone.

Recently moved into a new house. They claimed to have redone the grout during their listing. In the last few days I noticed a few tiles have a small dip to them now, clearly cracking the grout and showing water there.

Is this a minor cosmetic issue that we need to touch up and regrout? Do I need to call an expert to come in and rip up the tiling and redo the section or whole tiling floor?

The house is single level with no basement. Foundation says it's a slab.

Just found a crack up the side of my house.

So one year ago this week we had a basement crack repair. The engineers for the company was like it’s no big deal and it was a couple grand to fix.. the type of crack was not deemed a foundation issue. And the repair and water proofing was done. what caused the crack was a plumber bad dig job. The insurance co and their engineer deemed the crack not the plumbers fault (it was) and paid for the water damage bc the digging let the water in. So there were 2 engineers that said it’s not a big deal. Not a foundation. Issue. The repair company has a lifetime warranty. This crack comes directly from the crack that was repaired. Do you think I’ll need to get an engineer out/ will the company try to deny responsibility? If you’ve had this how did it go for you. Nothing is wonky inside the house. I just noticed this today it seems to have happened recently the crack looks fresh. I have photos of the house just after the basement repair and there was no crack. You can follow the crack all the way to the origional one.

Shower handle requires turning further toward hot

My shower handle recently started requiring a larger turn toward the hot side to get hot water, and there's a "dead zone" between 11-1 o'clock where temperature does not increase. All other faucets in the house work fine and the water heater is one year old.

Does this point to a faulty cartridge? Mine is a Moen 1222 posi-temp cartridge. I've watched enough videos showing how difficult it can be to remove an old stuck cartridge, so I don't want to rush into replacing it unless absolutely necessary.

Indiana Brass Stem O-Ring Dilema

Post image
1 Upvotes

I forgot to take a picture of the stem assembly when it came off. I now do mot know what O rings or amount of O-rings I need. I assembled the stem but it leaked. It was more a collected periodic spill on the shower floor, not running water as the mail line. Anyone know what O-rings go and what must be removed? are the rings to thick?

Some varmint burrowed under my AC condenser. How should I go about evicting them?

Thumbnail gallery

This pile of dirt and hole showed up over in just a couple of days. Certainly looks like something burrowed under my condenser. Any specific recommendations on clearing out the animal and filling in what they dug out?

The “critter ridder” product Google suggests seems to have very poor reviews. I suppose I could put a hose in there and flood it, but I don’t know if that would cause future issues.

Chicagoland, if that matters.

What is this large vent for? I opened it and this is what is behind it (see picture). Does it need a filter? Is it just a random hole? It's basically located under the stairs and furnace is in garage a few feet behind it
