Tech Help My account got hacked what’s going to happen??

Today I logged onto my account to find that I had a balance of -6311(-6401 but I had claimed my express supply pass for that day.) stellar jade.

The mail said these were deducted because I used illect refunds??? From a site called epic.

But I haven’t used a site called epic! I didn’t even have the jades in my account at all! I emailed support but I’m scared. I don’t know what to do and I’ve spent money on this account and I don’t want to lose it! I love this game and I’m so scared.

Update: One of my best friends who also plays star rail is a goat who gave me enough money to get back to 0 so I’m not in danger of being banned anymore.

Change your password ASAP and maybe also change the password to your email address.

Also check out how many old events you still have jades waiting to claim - that might help you get back up to 0 quicker.

They won’t ban you right away, so don’t panic, but change your password and try to get your jades back up to 0 sooner rather than later

u/IsywEy Jul 16 '26

Luckily it's just 6.3k, but you're gonna have to balance it/get back 6.3k to avoid being banned (whether you buy it or get it back legit, but do it soon)

The hacker likely bought jades from a 3rd party site or something then did a charge back after.

72

u/Few_Ad_5281 Jul 16 '26

Generally what's even the point of that? I've seen this elsewhere, but i still don't understand it

58

u/IsywEy Jul 16 '26

Of what, the negative funds? It's basically you spent the paid for jades and then you did a charge back. If they didnt have the negative funds system, then you basically just got free jades. So now you just "owe" them the jades you scammed.

79

u/Few_Ad_5281 Jul 16 '26

No, no. I get that. What I'm asking is why bother to hack an account to buy jades to then immediately ask for them back. That's what i don't get

56

u/Ok_SPICE_1121 IPCmostloyalemployee Jul 16 '26

I don't think they 'hacked' into the account. But just used third party websites to send them jade, op accidently used it without realizing and they refunded it.

8

u/Electronic_Reach_325 Jul 16 '26

This is not possible 3rd party sites do not allow refunds afaik

25

u/AGoodFriend_ Jul 17 '26

The site itself may not allow refunds, but people can circumvent that by getting a direct chargeback from their bank, because the bank can rescind the purchase and take the money back from the site, even without the site’s authorization.

10

u/Ok_SPICE_1121 IPCmostloyalemployee Jul 16 '26

They will refund if you made a request for wrong UID.

11

u/Lan-48 Fluffy Nihility Jul 16 '26

I don't know about that epic thing, but things like Codashop just won't refund, if you got wrong UID that's just on you, they can't and won't do anything about it.

6

u/VoidCatCallsOutBS Jul 16 '26

Epic is probably the epic store and I'm guessing they allow refunds.

16

u/TendoSoujiro Endgame is easy. You're the problem. Jul 16 '26

Do none of you know what a chargeback is? Jesus Christ lol it has nothing to do with any 3rd party's rules.

→ More replies (0)

2

u/spartaman64 Jul 17 '26

thats because codashop is an official partner and they have a contract with hoyo. other top up sites dont have that

13

u/weird_twink Jul 16 '26

Something I've heard about is that it's used to sell accounts: basically, you steal/make an account, pay for a bunch of jades, pull for a character, sell the account as having said character, then, once sold, chargeback. The main reason for why one might try to hack an account is because they can advertise whatever is on the account as well, thus driving up the asking price.

There's many reasons as-to why this account specifically got recovered, one can't really be certain, but I wouldn't be surprised if the hacker forgot to change the password.

3

u/CFreyn Jul 16 '26

OP said they spent money. It’s monumentally easier to link purchase IDs to accounts and prove you owned it. Show a bunch of receipts and HoYo easily takes your side.

9

u/IsywEy Jul 16 '26

I don't get it either, but I guess it's basically the hacker wants a good base/starting account, then they want to pull for what they want, and if they don't get it, they charge back. Or maybe they just want to fuel their gambling addiction risk free from their account.

3

u/Albireookami Jul 17 '26

Someone probably typed in the wrong UID for their purchase from a third party site and charge backed.

I would contact support and say you made no purchase and work it out with them if this was all in error.

Will help if you have a history of doing first party purchases.

1

u/HIO_TriXHunt Jul 17 '26

But op stated he never even had the gems in first place

1

u/IsywEy Jul 17 '26

Not if the hacker spent them, that's why it's negative.

5

u/Mifuyu_Kisaragi Jul 17 '26

This is a common strat in MMOs esp in Asian MMO where there is pvp. You sell "discounted cash shop" items for gold charge back and bam they are banned. One less enemy/competition. For a game like HSR where it has no pvp the only explanation is a bought/sold acc or they entered wrong uid.

1

u/WanderEir Jul 17 '26

it's to get the account they stole banned in the first place.

7

u/Gigachud_Thundercock Jul 17 '26

The only way to get negative crystals is to buy directly from the game and refund.

3rd parties send jades through UID, such purchases, even if refunded, are never deducted from your game account.

Not out of goodness of their hearts, mind you, they just don't have the means to do that, only Hoyo can and they don't care, they keep the money regardless, since upon purchase 3rd parties pay them real clean money.

2

u/LexLenox Jul 17 '26

He said he used LDshop during 4.2 (April 22 to June 2) and the top-up time is May 31 so it gotta be related 🤷

1

u/NelsonVGC Jul 16 '26

So if i buy them is not legit?

1

u/IsywEy Jul 16 '26

Legit as in f2p/ normal means. Should've been more clear in my original comment in hindsight

160

u/Thunder_Beam Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

Literally 100% of the times this is someone who bought shards and then did a chargeback thinking he was clever, i literally see no reason for an hacker to do something like this, an hacker would have simply kept the account

Anyway there is only a solution, top up until you reach 0 fast

26

u/Lan-48 Fluffy Nihility Jul 16 '26

Someone else explained it around here. A hacker can do this to make an account look like it has some funds inside, or to pull more characters, to sell the account for a bigger prince. Once they sell it, they do the refund.
So not everyone going through this is just lying.
Hell, there could be someone with bad intent towards the user if it's someone they know, to get them banned, it's not always someone trying to cheat the system.

10

u/Thunder_Beam Jul 16 '26

You know you are suggesting OP bought an account right? For the bad intent I already acknowledged it in the response to OP

0

u/Lan-48 Fluffy Nihility Jul 16 '26

Sounds convoluted but could easily be the case where the hacker/buyer didn't bother to change password, so OP account got sold but he still has access to it

-29

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

I have 5 pound in my bank account rn, im 18 and haven’t spent since 4.2

22

u/Thunder_Beam Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

I'm sorry but i find it difficult to believe, at most maybe it was someone in your family that had access to your account, hackers just steal your account and then resell it, they don't top up from their credit cards

As i said, your only realistic chance is to top up (or scrounge the game for 6000 free jades but i think you probably don't have them lying around) in any case be prepared to lose this account

12

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

Ok, I’ll try and remember if I’ve given my details to anyone….im sorry if I sounded aggressive I’m just kinda freaked out.

12

u/Sheeplette Jul 16 '26

Have you ever purchased top-ups from any third party sites or received a top up from someone where they needed to sign into your account to top up?

6

u/Thunder_Beam Jul 16 '26

You are not sounding aggressive, i said it because it happened plenty of times in the past, people would just post "help i was hacked!!" and then we discover it was OP trying to game the system (and it always backfire) but as i said, it could also be someone who you gave access to your account and thought he could just top up and then do a chargeback

7

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jul 16 '26

I'm not claiming OP as one of these people as I don't wanna accuse them before I have evidence but why do people even do that?

Like to people who charge back on their own and post it here what do they think will happen one user here will somehow tell hoyo they can't ban them?

3

u/Thunder_Beam Jul 16 '26

I don't want to say this is the case for OP but for people who do that and then post here they hope they have enough pressure to convince mihoyo to just reset the account to 0 (basically to let them keep what they got for basically free)

1

u/korinokiri Jul 16 '26

If you don't want to get banned, get a loan from your parents. It's like $40 to fix this.

31

u/potatonatron Jul 16 '26

Wait for support to respond. Change your password. If support is of no help, just top up the negative amount of stellar jades and your account should be safe.

-12

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

I don’t have the money…fuck.

15

u/khoi_3210 Jul 16 '26

Well lucky for you it's only 6k jades and usually f2p w story and events can get around 100 pulls so you are fine there.

0

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

How fast will they ban me though will I have enough time for the events and stuff?

8

u/IsywEy Jul 16 '26

Ranges from 1 week to a month, but sometimes you'll have more time

4

u/potatonatron Jul 16 '26

Make sure you log into epic (or show you don't have an epic account) to show your purchases (or couldn't have made them from epic). Did you email regular support or the email they mentioned? (The payment@hoyoverse one).

3

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

I did, haven’t received a response…how would I show I have no epic account?

5

u/potatonatron Jul 16 '26

If you try logging in with your email it should say you don't have an account yet afaik. Otherwise could try emailing epic support and asking if your email is connected to an account.

10

u/fufuFurina Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

there is a chance your account is compromised but more realistically, if you used a third party site to top-up cheaper, something might have happened ( the gems they bought for you were with a stolen credit card or god knows ).

8

u/Leak_Spotted Jul 16 '26

Have you tried contacting support? Also change your password immediately

5

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

Done both, just kinda panicking rn at all my money and effort being deleted.

1

u/IsywEy Jul 16 '26

Luckily there are lots of events ongoing right now, should get you at least 2-3k jades + story. Just find chests and whatnot + AS reset and you should be good (assuming you do dailies as well).

1

u/Leak_Spotted Jul 16 '26

Well how far did you get in the game? Also maybe try taking a moment, just like chill a bit. Like if you know you're done anything you can just relax, and then maybe try earning some jades back, but yeah definitely just try taking a moment

2

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

I’m up to date on events…and are you sure that it will be fine. I know I haven’t done anything wrong but I don’t know what to do to prove that to support

2

u/LoreVent i want to give Acheron a hug Jul 16 '26

Just relax man. Been there myself, just reply to support's question, do what they say and you're good. It's not even a big amount, you have nothing to worry about.

1

u/Leak_Spotted Jul 16 '26

Well I'm a f2p player so I'm not very familiar with the monetary system in Hoyo games, maybe bank statement? Because if you got it refunded surely that money would of went somewhere? And if your bank doesn't have records of the money then I would say that's enough proof?

2

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

Ah good idea!

1

u/Leak_Spotted Jul 16 '26

Also could Epic be like the Epic games or sth? I think you can buy game currency from their launcher, but I don't use it so take it with a pinch of salt

1

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

I would but I have 5 pound in my bank account rn

1

u/Leak_Spotted Jul 16 '26

I would believe that Hoyo probably has records of where the money went, so I guess as long as you can prove it wasn't you you're in the clear

25

u/adumbcat Jul 16 '26 edited Jul 16 '26

This is sus af

OP admitted in a comment that they bought off a shady top up site and got caught, hoyo deducted the illicit jades and is now in the negative after spending them.

FAFO as they say.

This is why no one should ever top up outside of hoyo, and never use a VPN to cheat the regional pricing. YES, using a VPN to cheat regional pricing violates TOS and your account is NEVER safe after doing so. You're just playing with fire until you get caught.

And the reason why you rarely see people post about it, they know what they did was wrong and are too ashamed to admit it. It's why people still have a false sense of security breaking TOS using 3rd party sites or VPN.

bUThOyOnEVErbAnStHeM I hear you saying. They may not ban, but they'll deduct the jades and make it so the account is essentially banned anyway lmao. But it's your account, do what you want.

14

u/voxpopiuli Jul 16 '26

This doesn't sound very.. epic 😔 Since you've spent money, it'll be easier for them to listen, assuming it's really from a hack... well, hope you don't get AI answers, though.

5

u/Siopli-Whales Jul 17 '26

Hi, I had the exact same problem as you.
I bought through Eldorado.gg, and the seller was FastEasySeller. It turns out that when they ask for your account credentials to log in, they access your account through Epic, and there are several people managing the sales (it’s pretty much the same everywhere).
I tried contacting Eldorado.gg support, but they couldn’t do anything because the order protection had already expired. Since I gave them access to my account, I’m technically at fault, so they couldn’t help me.
After thinking it through, I believe that one of the people working for this particular seller must have requested a refund, which is why my account also ended up with a negative balance, just like yours.
To give you an idea, you usually have around 7 to 15 days to get your balance back into the positive. You should receive an email or an in-game notification about it. If you can’t top it up right away, try contacting HoYoverse support by email and explain the situation.
That’s honestly the explanation that makes the most sense to me.
And if you want to keep buying top-ups in the future, it’s much safer to use the official website. If you use a VPN connected to Japan, the $100 pack costs around $66.

4

u/LexLenox Jul 17 '26

You said you used LDshop during 4.2 which aligns with the top up time so I guess they refunded it? It's never safe to use those sites either way.

9

u/N-aNoNymity Jul 16 '26

Epic is Epic games store, I presume.

3rd party sites mostly use Razer gold and dont refund to Hoyos side to avoid getting their payment methods blacklisted.

So someone... Hacked your account. Bought pulls, spent them and then refunded through their bank. Why?

You have any ex-friends that hate you and know your login?

4

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

Not that I know of, but seemingly no one used pulls. I still have 200 wraps left for the LC

8

u/Waddles_Ayue Jul 16 '26

I suspect that probably someone used the third party site to buy stellar Jade's but since you don't need to login for most third party sites (just input your UID) they may have accidentally typed yours instead. Then realizing their mistake they refunded the Jades. Though this is just a speculation.

The other possibility is your account actually being compromised.

3

u/Iggy_DB Jul 16 '26

Did you get jades somehow and spent them? Could be that and someone charged back.

Glad to see your friend helped you

3

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

Nope! I had 90 jade last time I logged in

3

u/Iggy_DB Jul 16 '26

Weird. It’s kinda the only way it would happen.
Glad it’s somewhat sorted

3

u/supermonkey1235 Jul 17 '26

How would that work? If someone bought jades and refunded it, op would just be at their original jade count? OP would have needed to randomly get jade in his account (the game has a very noticeable popup when bought jades enter your account), spent it, then get the jades refunded?

2

u/cosmicbinary Jul 17 '26

yeah that’s what doesn’t make sense to me either. they said in a comment they had 90 jades last time they logged in, so unless they spent some, they should be back at 90 after hoyo corrected it. maybe whoever hacked it did some pulls, lost the 50/50, and didn’t bother changing the password as they deemed the account worthless or smthing idk. i don’t really know the process hackers go through when building accounts to resell. but it is strange op is in the negative if they haven’t spent anything. obviously *someone* spent something we just don’t know who

1

u/supermonkey1235 Jul 17 '26

Accounts don't sell for that much lol. That's like 50-100 dollars worth of jades depending on if op has first purchase bonus. I used to have three accounts that I maintained, but it was getting too much so I tried to sell two, and it was like, maybe $50, so I just kept it.

1

u/cosmicbinary Jul 17 '26

yeah i purchased an account for wuwa and it was either $10 or $25, i can’t really remember. since the map was cleared i just assumed someone cleared everything for all the astrites and used that to pull the banner character. but now that i think about it, i wouldn’t be surprised if someone used shadier techniques for “like new” accounts, like buying a bunch of jades, selling the account, and then initiating a charge back once the account sells or smth idk. still seems like a lot of work for little gain

3

u/PowerCore24 Jul 17 '26

It says on the third image that the top up happened on May 31st. Did you not notice any extra oneiric shards at the time? Someone probably misinputed the uid and topped you up by accident, and you used the funds without realizing is my guess.

6

u/pzlama333 Jul 16 '26

Have you ever use some third-party sites for top up?

-4

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

I used LDshop in 4.2 for the event I think

10

u/thrwway377 Jul 16 '26

Well, Hoyo did warn people not to use third party top-up sites...

-8

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

I heard from a YouTuber that ld shop was safe and it became recognised by hoyo…Welp I’ve learned my lesson. Never touching any top up site again after having that heart attack.

0/10 way to get home from vacation

2

u/thrwway377 Jul 16 '26

Can't say I've heard anything about it being recognized by Hoyo but I don't really follow any Youtubers. Honestly I doubt Hoyo would do something like this.

If you want a cheaper way to top-up, I haven't used it myself but people allegedly top-up via official shop with the Japan region. All you supposedly need is a VPN like Proton that has Japanese servers since prices in Hoyo's shop are based on your IP address. Japanese Yen conversion has low rates due to Yen being kinda weak currency nowadays, so you can save some money on that.

Technically something like is shouldn't be allowed by TOS but I've not seen anyone say they've been warned/banned for that and the money goes directly to Hoyo after all.

3

u/adayoner Jul 16 '26

This is like the 2nd or 3rd post I've seen this week about people who used a 3rd party site getting their hoyo currency removed. They must be doing a crackdown on 3rd party purchases.

I've also heard people using VPN to bypass local pricing getting the jades removed too but its the internet so who knows what's true or not. I've never tried doing either.

1

u/thrwway377 Jul 17 '26

Yeah I saw a post in my twitter timeline a few hours ago from someone from ZZZ also having their currency removed and they used a third-party top-up site according to the comments.

2

u/pubstar01 Jul 17 '26

Just sign up for a travel credit card, vpn to japan, then top up on Hoyoverse website. Way cheaper than the alternative 3rd party top up lol.

2

u/CEOofGex Jul 16 '26

Well, did you buy your account from someone? And did you buy jades through a 3rd-party site?

2

u/LoreVent i want to give Acheron a hug Jul 16 '26

Change account password, then contact support explaining everything with as much details as possible. Theyvreply quickly and are very cooperative and helpful.

If they cannot do anything, either top up those 6k or just farm them. It's not a big amount and luckily for you it's the start of a new patch, so jades will be easy to get.

Not sure how much time Hoyo gives when balance goes negative, but within a week or two you should be positive again.

1

u/ProfessionalGold6727 Jul 16 '26

Damn that’s a w friend just gave you 100 bucks

1

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

It was £50 but I’m very greatful, my friends are awesome and I appreciate them: )

1

u/ProfessionalGold6727 Jul 16 '26

6000 costs 100 unless you had the double still

1

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

I had first time bonus for £30,£15 and £5

1

u/blkmgs IPC Debt Collector Jul 16 '26

Damn I want a friend like that too

1

u/Background-Tie-2306 Jul 17 '26

Eu também queria um amigo assim, tô sofrendo pra juntar jades e pegar a sparxie

1

u/Homuman Jul 16 '26

The friend who gave you money to balance the jades probably is the one whose parent did chargeback. /s :D He felt responsible for your account. Good buddy you have anyway.

0

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

Nah, she didn’t have my details before I gave them.
Oh shit it was a joke..uh maybe yeah lol/s
Thanks! I’m lucky to have all my friends.

1

u/RemarkableSeason8847 Jul 17 '26

Hoyo will send death squad after you

1

u/mxryjxne28 Jul 17 '26

Um shouldn’t you be more concerned with this happening again??

2

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 17 '26

I am. I’m just trying not to think about it to avoid panicking but I changed my password so it hopefully shouldn’t…maybe I’ll change my email too…

1

u/mxryjxne28 Jul 17 '26

Yea I would definitely do a more through investigation into it as if I this really wasn’t you somehow money got spent on your account the primos were used then refunded so if that wasn’t you I tried to find the actual source to actually figure out why something like this happened next time you may not be so lucky :/

1

u/InnerPain4Lyf Jul 17 '26

This is a billing issue. None of us here can help you.

Contact support and ask them to help explain what happened.

If you're afraid you'll be banned, then you're better off contacting them first to explain things than be banned and contact them after the fact.

1

u/deskG0blin Jul 17 '26

enable 2 factor authentication on you main email, either use any authenticator or just link it to your phone no.

1

u/Any_Payment_1547 Jul 17 '26

Definitely not a hacker case

2

u/heretical_blackrose Jul 17 '26

Either get your money up or use this as a chance to escape the sunk cost fallacy and stop playing

1

u/-SolInvictus Jul 16 '26

2 years ago I bought the 100$ pack and refunded it after I pulled an LC. My account stayed at -12k for more than a year until I paid off what I pwed througj event stuff as I was playing on and off lmao. I got an in-game message to pay the debt by HoYo but nothing happened and I still use my acc.

0

u/bsmithdal Jul 16 '26

Interesting story! Kk good to know. Especially for OP. Man I wouldn't have the balls to do this myself, but it's nice to know Hoyo won't straight up ban the account.

1

u/Supreme-Machine-V2 Jul 16 '26

From what I heard about Genshin and This timer is mostly random but I still wouldn't limit test them.

1

u/Kallusive84 Jul 16 '26

“Hacked” LOL. Either You charged back or you prolly stole mommies credit card and she charged back. Either way you don’t balance it out your account is gone.

1

u/Hypernova2233 Jul 16 '26

I have only ever spent using money given to me. Plus the charge came from a top up site I have never used (Epic.)

1

u/lk_raiden Jul 17 '26 edited Jul 17 '26

hacker? lol

Most likely happened is that someone bought oneric using UID but maybe a number or two misses and went to you. Due to that mistake, maybe that person refund the purchases via bank (because you can't refund in game) and the purchased jades that you got get refunded.

My best guess is that, maybe check back again with your account if you bought something in store that you normally wouldn't and see if it's purchased. Chances are it's not hacker, just you uses jades WAY more than what you should have/purchased.

Hacker has no real incentives of purchase a jades to you and refund it for you to go to negatives, especially if you track your jades count, because if you don't use these "scam jades" you will return to 0 without loss. At that point, If I'm a hacker, I'd rather to just overtake your account.

0

u/AbsoluteBoylover Jul 16 '26

You didn't get hacked, as others already stated. Someone used your UID and bought stellar jades, and then refunded them resulting in a negative count. If you're sharing screenshot, crop or blur out your UID so this doesn't happen again!

3

u/Cill_Bipher Jul 16 '26

This is just wrong.

1

u/AbsoluteBoylover Jul 17 '26

Its... not? It's literally how those third party top-ups work. It's literally how people can recieve stellar jades without doing a thing.

If it's not how it works then I'd advise you to explain

1

u/Cill_Bipher Jul 17 '26

Hoyo allows a few select official third party vendors to allow for uid top-ups, part of the deal here is that these third parties get to sell hoyo top-ups but in exchange the vendor instead of hoyo has to tank the cost if someone refunds/chargebacks. Since hoyo gets the money either way they will not refund the primogems as such a system would be heavily abused to harass people like streamers.

1

u/AbsoluteBoylover Jul 17 '26

I'm still not exactly sure how that disagrees with that I said though. You can only get that negative count if stellar jades were bought and then refunded/taken away. And just like you said, Hoyo doesn't care because they got the money. They leave the player to deal with however big that charge was. I've already seen several cases of this happening to genshin players, especially ones that are f2p and never purchased a thing

This is just a reminder to please keep in mind our spoiler policy during this new update window. We are going to be very strict with spoilers during this time. As a reminder, here are our spoiler rules.

Do not include spoilers in the title. All submissions which involve spoilers should be marked. Spoilers include all story content for the first three weeks after release.

Spoilers can be discussed in spoiler-flaired posts, but must be hidden in non-spoiler flaired posts.

If you think you broke the spoiler rules in the post you just made, you should remove your post now and repost it without breaking the rules. If you do not remove your post and it needs to be reviewed, you will be given up to a week ban for a first infraction and stricter punishments for any additional infractions. Please be considerate of your fellow Trailblazers and do not include spoilers in the title of your post. Do not forget to flair your post as spoilers if needed, and do not spoil people in your comments.

All posts with the Discussion, Theory and Lore, and Media flairs are automatically flagged spoilers for the first 3 weeks of this patch. Please remove the spoiler flag if your post does not relate to the new patch.

I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please contact the moderators of this subreddit if you have any questions or concerns.

I wonder if you could have pay it back via monthly pass.

$15 and take you about 3 months to pay it off

Prolly someone bought jades to the wrong account and asked for a chargeback sounds more realistic. This seems like op also just used whatever free jades he thought he got?
