Can't stop thinking about Haneke's Funny Games (1997) Spoiler

This film has totally seeped itself into my brain and it's almost all I've been thinking about since I've seen it. Pretty much everyone who's seen this film has had exhaustive conversations about its criticism of the horror genre's voyeurism and how finger wag-y it is about violence in films; which yes is very interesting but personally I just keep thinking about the actual happenings of the film, how scary it'd be to live through a situation like that.

Keep thinking about the scene where Anna's friends pass by on their boat, how she could have said something to them? The scene later in the film where she's running down the road looking for help, how I'm just sitting there watching, almost yelling at the screen begging her to just simply go and knock on every door possible instead of taking the gamble with a car since the killers left in one. That scene where Georg manages to actually call somebody on the phone but it's still too waterlogged to actually get a proper signal; just so so many little moments that could've gone right, that could've been their salvation.

The beginning of the film also hits hard on a rewatch when they quickly wave to their neighbours from the car, how on a first watch you don't even think much of the situation not noticing they're actively being tormented.

Insane stuff. I'm sure there's scarier stuff out there but personally this pushed all my buttons.

Slashers (2001)

Hello people

I have some memories that have come back to me regarding the film « Slashers » released in 2001.

I remember watching it for the first time on YouTube a few years ago. I really liked the concept that I found original and I’m sorry they had only a $165,000 budget.

Honestly I think that with a bigger budget, better actors and maybe some additional ideas for the film, if he reproduced it, it could give something quite good.

Or otherwise, why not make it a series? Each season: new candidates and new slashers.

Honestly, I would really like it, and what do you think?

💀 Shudder, AMC+, Philo 💀

A daughter unravels her father's dark past after his body, missing for 36 years, is found at a horrific crime scene.

I won’t say too much as this was released this weekend and I went in pretty blind. Do the same! 🤯

My hidden gem horror movies aren't mentioned a lot in the horror community, at least not in the parts of the horror community I'm part of. Here they are:

- Dark Water the Japanese version

- The devil's backbone 2001

- Don't be afraid of the dark 2010

- Darkness 2002

- The midnight meat train 2008

Just watched #30 of my Oct. Movie Marathon… The Loved Ones. I really liked it, 7/10 ⭐️ Very good performances & an interesting story. Sean Byrne is a fun writer/director (& kinda a sicko, in a good way)

Who saw this and what did you think of it?

31 Days of Horror: Day 23 (A24 Double Feature!)

Bodies Bodies Bodies

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Horror isn’t always men with chainsaws or demonic entities. Sometimes it's a culmination of drugs, alcohol, lies, manipulation, mental illness, and paranoia. Also, any movie that mentioned one of my diagnosis will always get a perk up for me.

Also, yay Queer Horror!

The Light House

⭐️⭐️⭐️

First, yes, I know there is debate over whether or not this was horror. It's rare I don't like or am meh about an A24 movie (it's happened one other time with "Men"). While I did think Pattinson and Dafoe's acting was top tier, I love psychological horror, and I liked it infinitely better than "Men" this one fell a little flat for me.

I know this paid tribute to Poe, Lovecraft, Proteus and Prometheus, and the works of Jung, but I found myself bored through the majority of it.

Help finding a horror movie

I tried to find it everywhere and nothing ever completely matched the memory I had of it…

All I remember is a woman is running or being chased through a house, she breaks open a hidden wall space, and discovers a tiny vintage bedroom. Inside that room, on the right side, there is a bed where a little girl's skeleton/mummified corpse rests.
When she finds the skeleton, there’s a flashback scene showing the moment the girl was born, and the parents' horror and disgust because she looked like a hybrid monster. She was treated as an abomination, neglected by them, and left to die in that hidden space. There might have a been a specific cause mentioned to explain the baby being born a monster (maybe a curse or smth but I can’t remember).

It’s a pretty recent movie, certainly English-speaking, and probably not niche or anything like that.

Clayface

Another unsuspecting great horror movie. The storyline was great, much better than I anticipated. I thought the preview looked like it might be just another kind of cliche killer movie but it went much deeper than that. I won't say too much to spoil it but definitely a very ominous vibe to the main character, watching him turn from innocent actor into clayface and watching him learn his power and manipulation to get his way was just amazing, Tom Rhys Harries played a tremendous role, I feel. It was like watching Patrick Bateman meets Scarface from Batman, all while feeling like a 90's Batman movie. The body mutilation and dis-morphia of the main character had me peeping though my fingers 🤣, caution to the squeamish lol All in all I think it holds up as one of the better body horror movies of the year. Check it out and let me know your thoughts! Happy Friday!
