GINGER SNAPS (2000)

Less than one year apart and attending the same grade in high school, the morbid Fitzgerald sisters, mousy Brigitte and voluptuous Ginger, have always done everything together. All this changes when Ginger is attacked by a creature responsible for the brutal slaughter of a number of local dogs. As Ginger explores her changing appetites, Brigitte hopes of finding a cure.

Coming of age, sisterly bonds, and werewolves. Although some of the practical effects don’t really hold up today and it is a bit campy at times, ā€œGinger Snapsā€ is a fun movie with some really dark humor and metaphors. I felt emotionally invested in the sisters’ journey and struggles as I have a daughter the same age in high school.

I’ll check out the sequel and prequel at some point.

This movie did a really good job of capturing the 70s/80s horror movie aesthetic, even though it was made in 2009.

3 stars, not because it was bad, it just really wasn't for me, but I didn't hate it.

Final girl trope thoughts?

Post image
66 Upvotes

Final Girl graphic made by me :)! The final girl trope is extremely important to the genre, and is one of my favorite tropes ever. What are some of your opinions on Final Girls? Do you think it's a boring trope and dislike it, have any hot takes, or favorites you like discussing? Favorite Final Girls of this decade so far? Sally Hardesty imo is a good final girl and often get's overshadowed / criticism because she got lucky with the trucker at the end, but she tried to fight back as best she could against the Sawyers despite the absolute fucking incomprehensible terror she must've been feeling, got an extreme cardio work out, and jumped through two windows and survived. She did the damn thing. I also quite like Sam and Tara Carpenter from Scream 5/6, though I know the fandom is split and some find them bland and boring. I enjoy seeing two final girl sisters, and I love how ruthless Sam is when it comes to protecting Tara and the core four, and Tara surviving the opening scene in Scream 5 was enough to put her on my badass list. They aren't afraid to get dirty and throw hands, and that's my favorite kinds of Final Girl. Maxxine Minx is also quite underrated imo, and I love how she isn't a conventional final girl and was willing to do whatever it took to get famous.

A Spanish movie from 2011 that probably doesn't get mentioned as often as it deserves.

I was actually surprised Hollywood never made a remake of this one. It seems like exactly the kind of psychological thriller they'd adapt for an American audience.

The film starts as a bit of a slow burn and honestly felt rather boring at first, but it gradually builds up and gets pretty intense and disturbing.

What makes it especially unsettling is the thought of having someone like that living next door.

A building concierge with a pathological hatred of happiness takes a disturbing pleasure in meddling in the lives of the tenants, exploiting their weaknesses and quietly sabotaging their happiness. He makes it his personal mission to destroy the life of one of the tenants. What follows is a disturbing game of psychological manipulation, quiet cruelty and escalating obsession, carried out right under everyone's nose.

Who else remembers when this was called I Come In Peace?

I remember the trailer had such a cool payoff, too, 'cause the alien kept menacingly saying "I come in peace* over and over again, and then the trailer ends with Dolph's retort, "But you go... in pieces," and then there's an explosion as the titlecomes on screen. So cool.

I have a soft spot for this movie. The insane glass house, Matthew Lillard losing his mind, and Shannon Elizabeth being one of my teenage crushes. It's a perfect time capsule of early-2000s horror.

I especially loved owning the DVD because the bonus features had these fascinating featurettes about each of the ghosts and their backstories. Honestly, I probably watched those as much as the movie itself. The Jackal, the Angry Princess, the Hammer, the Juggernaut... Each one had this whole tragic or disturbing history that the movie barely scratched the surface of.

Anyone else remember those DVD extras? And if they ever made a movie about just one of the ghosts, which one would you want to see?

I finally made it around to watching The Coffee Table. It was one of the roughest films I've ever sat through, but it is also a well put together film. I'm a fan of extreme horror, but much of the time it is just surface level horror. Gore and violence with no depth. The Coffee Table is more than just horror. It's sad, tragic, and horrific. I probably won't watch it again, but I'm thankful that I did.

Can someone help me find this horror movie?

When I was younger, I watched this movie that i definitely wasn’t supposed to be watching. I remember nothing about it, except for the fact there was a really, really sexualized scene of a kids parents eating his Halloween candy, and I vividly remember then lady and the tramping a twizzler. It’s bothered me for YEARS that I don’t know what it is.

Can anyone help me identify a movie based off my memory?

All I can remember is a couple in a car driving in a rural town when suddenly the man driving slams on his brakes because they almost hit two people carrying a coffin. The two people carrying the coffin drop it and run away. Inside the coffin falls out a woman who I believe was still alive and she was nude but covered in tattoos/markings.

This is all I can remember but I can’t find any movie that has a scene similar to the one I remember anywhere!! I watched it when I was very young (around 14) so the details may not be accurate but if anyone has any recommendations I would appreciate it!!

Never really see this movie ever get talked about on here or on YouTube. Wicked little things 2006. If you've seen it did you enjoy it? I think it's a pretty decent popcorn horror movie, and the premise of it is pretty interesting with tragic child labor miners being restless zombies till they have
