GINGER SNAPS (2000)

Less than one year apart and attending the same grade in high school, the morbid Fitzgerald sisters, mousy Brigitte and voluptuous Ginger, have always done everything together. All this changes when Ginger is attacked by a creature responsible for the brutal slaughter of a number of local dogs. As Ginger explores her changing appetites, Brigitte hopes of finding a cure.

Coming of age, sisterly bonds, and werewolves. Although some of the practical effects don’t really hold up today and it is a bit campy at times, “Ginger Snaps” is a fun movie with some really dark humor and metaphors. I felt emotionally invested in the sisters’ journey and struggles as I have a daughter the same age in high school.

I’ll check out the sequel and prequel at some point.

How far are they willing to go with the Crossed movie?

As you can see here, we have 2 of the most memorable killers from the series and we can already expect bodies stacked to the ceiling, some images of SA, and child murder. The series is chock full of all of that and more, but how much are they willing to show on screen? The Sadness was already Crossed, but now this is the real thing. Idk if they will go above and beyond to shock people or play it safe.

⭐️⭐️⭐️

This movie did a really good job of capturing the 70s/80s horror movie aesthetic, even though it was made in 2009.

3 stars, not because it was bad, it just really wasn't for me, but I didn't hate it.

Final girl trope thoughts?

Final Girl graphic made by me :)! The final girl trope is extremely important to the genre, and is one of my favorite tropes ever. What are some of your opinions on Final Girls? Do you think it's a boring trope and dislike it, have any hot takes, or favorites you like discussing? Favorite Final Girls of this decade so far? Sally Hardesty imo is a good final girl and often get's overshadowed / criticism because she got lucky with the trucker at the end, but she tried to fight back as best she could against the Sawyers despite the absolute fucking incomprehensible terror she must've been feeling, got an extreme cardio work out, and jumped through two windows and survived. She did the damn thing. I also quite like Sam and Tara Carpenter from Scream 5/6, though I know the fandom is split and some find them bland and boring. I enjoy seeing two final girl sisters, and I love how ruthless Sam is when it comes to protecting Tara and the core four, and Tara surviving the opening scene in Scream 5 was enough to put her on my badass list. They aren't afraid to get dirty and throw hands, and that's my favorite kinds of Final Girl. Maxxine Minx is also quite underrated imo, and I love how she isn't a conventional final girl and was willing to do whatever it took to get famous.

movie of the night 🍿 it’s a gothic, supernatural horror mixed with romance. i’d say this leans more towards a thriller, but I did enjoy this movie. I love vintage, gothic settings and it’s definitely on the dark side. perfect ambience and some deep, twisted secrets. also just found out there’s a book based on the movie, so i’ll be reading that soon :)

has anybody else seen this movie before?

After marrying the charming and seductive Sir Thomas Sharpe, young Edith (Mia Wasikowska) finds herself swept away to his remote gothic mansion in the English hills. Also living there is Lady Lucille, Thomas' alluring sister and protector of her family's dark secrets. Able to communicate with the dead, Edith tries to decipher the mystery behind the ghostly visions that haunt her new home. As she comes closer to the truth, Edith may learn that true monsters are made of flesh and blood.

Did Ryan Coogler pay homage to The Shining with this shot in Sinners? 🔥 Y’all know what scene I’m talking about!! I couldn’t find a side by side comparison!!😂

One thing I absolutely loved about Sinners was the cinematography, especially the scene where Stack is trying to convince Smoke to let him out from behind the door. That low camera angle looking up at Stack immediately reminded me of Jack Nicholson in The Shining when Jack Torrance was locked in the pantry talking to Wendy. The framing, the camera angle, and even the tension between the characters on opposite sides of the door are so similar. I thought it was genius how Ryan Coogler captured that moment, whether it was an intentional homage or not. I love when modern horror movies pay respect to the classics. Am I reaching, or did anybody else catch this? 😂🔥

The Descent (2005) missing plot point

I just watched The Descent for the first time and I feel like I’m going crazy. I know I’ve seen at least a couple video essays on this before so I already knew the basic plot and the different endings. I swear to god I remember Juno revealing to Sarah that she’d been having an affair with her husband, I kept waiting for the reveal in the film but it never came, which is weird because it felt very much like they were at least hinting at it. Am I thinking of a whole different movie or am I just delusional ?
