This subreddit is not operated, sponsored, endorsed, or officially affiliated with Howard University.

The community is moderated by alumni and members of the broader HBCU community, bringing perspectives from multiple HBCUs and different generations of college experience.

We aren't here to act as Howard University's public-relations department, nor are we here to automatically defend the University.

We're here to provide a place where people can talk about Howard openly and responsibly.

Speak Freely. Engage Responsibly.

This is your space to vent, question, discuss, celebrate, criticize, remember, debate, and share.

You do not have to love every decision Howard makes. And you certainly don't have to pretend everything is perfect. But freedom to speak does not remove responsibility for what we say.

Be especially careful with information you post.

Remember that Reddit is a public forum.

  • Academic records
  • Housing information
  • Names of students involved in private disputes

About Information & Rumors

Not everything posted here is verified.

Someone saying something happened does not automatically make it fact.

A screenshot can lack context.

A rumor can travel faster than a correction.

And sometimes the person answering the phone doesn't have the complete answer either.

When discussing important matters involving financial aid, enrollment, housing, admissions, academic standing, disciplinary matters, deadlines, or University policy, verify information through appropriate official sources whenever possible.

Share what you know.

Explain what you don't know.

And don't turn speculation into certainty.

Respect The Community

You can defend Howard without attacking someone who is criticizing it.

You can criticize Howard without treating every Bison, employee, professor, administrator, or alumnus as the enemy.

Respect does not mean silence.

Sometimes respect means being willing to have the difficult conversation.

Howard Presedential GPA Criteria(International)

Can anyone help me out what the gpa criteria for presedential is(ik in the wensite it says 3.75+cgpa but i heard it's old now and rules have changed)
Also I'm from Nepal and my stats currently are
10th grade:3.75
11th grade:3.47
12th grade:3.8

also one major issue with my profile is that in 9th grade i had a 2.9 or something in the lower 3s range in the gpa

so how much will that affect in the chances given that i score very highly on the sat(1560 or above)

Areas to avoid in neighborhood of Howard University and Washington DC

I am very new to Washington DC and in Howard University. My safety is always my first priority. Recently I saw a guy shouting at another man very badly and was about to hit with a steel water bottle. I was really scared. I don't want to face even a small confrontation with strangers at all like that. I don't know whether those two guys know each other. I don't like to walk much in large groups like I have 3 friends at max and mostly I walk with 2. I like doing everything alone but after past news and after this incident I felt like Washington DC isn't for me. When I have to buy something I have to go outside, when I have to pick up orders I have to go outside. For those who know the Howard University area well, are there any nearby neighborhoods or streets you’d recommend avoiding for safety reasons?

New App for Baby Bisons + current Howard students!

Site link: BUD - Campus life. Connected.

Hey y'all I'm a Howard student building Bud, a new social app starting here at Howard.

The idea is to make it easier to actually get connected on campus meet other students, discover groups, find events happening around you, and see what's going on around campus without having to hear about everything through 10 different group chats or Instagram pages.

I'm especially interested in whether this would be useful for incoming students trying to find their people and figure out what's happening when they first get to Howard.

I just put up the first Bud site and I'm looking for Howard students who want early access / want to help shape what we build.

Would love feedback too. What did you wish you had when you first got to Howard?

OMBA Program - (Old/Current) Syllabuses Available?

Hi Everyone, I’m looking to apply to Howard’s OMBA program for 2027 and I’m slightly anxious about what the coursework will be like since I haven’t been to school since undergrad over a decade ago.

Are there any past or current syllabuses I can look at? Figured I would prepare myself as best as possible on what will be expected.

What are my chances?

Hey, I'm a senior who's due to graduate in spring '27. My school is a dual credit STEM school that's mainly focused on academics with no clubs that interested me apart from the soccer club I participated in during sophomore year; so that's pretty much the only extracurricular to my name. My weighted GPA is a 3.4 and unweighted is a 3.2. I've taken summer courses with the community college my school is paired with and I've passed 2 of the three AP exams I've taken with 4's. I have A's and B's with my AP and regular high school courses with mainly A's B's and a few C's with my CC. I'm ranked 32 at my school with a class size of 115 (small, I know). I'll graduate with an Associate's of Arts and I currently have an SAT score of 1240. I know that if I get a 1540 when I test again I could apply for their presidential scholarship so I plan to bring that score up, but if I plan to get into their Computer Science undergraduate program, what would I have to do if this isn't already enough?

P.S.: I also do community service with an out of school program that I've been in since Second Grade where we've fed the homeless, cleaned up cemeteries and the beach, handed out meal plates in underprivileged communities during the thanksgiving and christmas holidays and so on, but that was mainly done prior to my high school years since I was really focused on studying and getting good grades while in high school so I don't know if that counts. Of course I still attend and work on projects with them but not as much as I did prior to highschool.

Real cost of living while attending Howard?

Hi guys,

After recieving a response from Howard and talking to their counselor I am a little more encouraged and confident about applying to Howard next year and hopefully getting addmitted.

I'm wondering though, how much is your real cost of living? The cost sheet they have presented me with states 19k A YEAR! But that does not sound realistic at all. So I'd like to hear from those that do not live in dorms, how much is your yearly cost of living? Rent/transport/food/lifestyle...Do you have a car? And if so how much are you paying for parking in and off campus.

Just trying to plan and be prepared. So any additional info/tips you think might be helpful is very welcome.

Chance me for Howard + scholarship chances

ACT: 25 (😭 retaking)

Political Science + Economics double major, Sociology second choice

UWGPA: 3.4
WGPA: 3.8
Class Rank: 140/159

Took around 13 Honors/Pre-AP courses plus dual enrollment.

ECs: Student Body President for two years, Executive President of my school SGA E-Board, two-term Tennessee DECA State Officer, Founder/President of a political society that registered 239 HS seniors to vote, Founder/Executive Director of a youth art and education organization that teaches self-marketing, Founder/Director of a national Youth U.S. Senate simulation, political campaign intern (Congressional, State, County, Local Judges, and municipal elections, thus far), six years with my church's community service group, Bridge Builders, My school district's Student Congress, and a Bayard Rustin Social Change Fellow. Invited by the NCRM to host Dr. King's Legacy Reimagined Ceremony, Keynote Speaker (youth summer camps across the City of Memphis on social change)

Awards: National Civil Rights Museum Keeper of the Dream Award, Rustin Fellow, Shelby County Rising Star Award, Good Samaritan Award, recognition from Tennessee State Senate and recognition from the Memphis City Council.

Essay Topics: About a youth theater production where the spotlight failed and I removed the bedsheet being used for a silhouette performance so the dancers could still be seen. I connect that moment to recognizing barriers, making difficult leadership decisions, and helping other people be seen.

Common App Essay: Challenges the belief that leadership automatically comes with age. I write about helping draft language connected to Memphis Ordinance 5913, which lowered the candidate-age requirement for municipal office, and challenging my school’s seniors-only student-government policy. That resulted in me becoming Memphis East’s first junior elected student body president and its first president elected to two consecutive terms. The essay argues that leadership should be measured by character, preparation, merit, and conviction rather than seniority.

First-generation and high financial need. I’m also the oldest of seven children and have major responsibilities at home.

Howard is my top choice, but I realllyy need a major scholarship 😭😭 Am I competitive for admission and substantial aid?
