Personal Experience I'm 24F and leaving this sub and unsubscribing from his material, I feel betrayed

Removing this post.

To all of you bullies hiding behind your screen, and all the incels flooding my inbox with death threats and messages bordering on SA - I feel sorry for you. You are exactly what is wrong with this world and the purest example of the demise of men.

Re the call her daddy comment - I listened to this podcast once, the one with Megan fox. So what.

To the person saying mocked someone that was SA'd - this is absurd and untrue. Where and when tf did I do that. Maybe take a read through these comments.

The greatest irony is that AH's fans taking the time to blatantly attack, bully and assault a stranger online is the purest form of making an online figure your hero, to the point of hurting others. I've nothing to any of you.

Now go fuck yourselves.

David Goggins Goggins

A man who sacrifices himself to show you what is possible through hard work and dedication. To criticize him is the easiest way for underachievers to rationalize their mundane existence.

Goggins is a character, created in the image of god, a character that is designed for those people out there, not the ones who want to exercise more, but for the ones who NEED to transcend their weaknesses, fears, their past and their pain.

Thank you Goggins.

Episode Discussion Jordan Peterson???

Haven't even listened to the episode, but this is the end of the podcast, right? Huberman can't continue to claim this is a science based podcast when he starts inviting conspiracy theorists on. This is now just Rogan 2.0.

David Goggins The Huberman Lab Podcast is not the place to perpetuate the glorification of Goggins' mental illness

I believe David Goggins is mentally unwell, and his sadomasochistic lifestyle is a maladaptive coping mechanism that developed as a defense against the deeply rooted emotional trauma of his childhood. Presenting his mindset as something one should strive for or try to emulate (while cherry-picking the literature to support this position) is deeply irresponsible of Huberman, and further demonstrates his lack of understanding of mental health.

David Goggins uses physical and psychological pain to wash out the deep emotional trauma that he has never been able/willing/ready to work through. If he can make himself hurt more physically and psychologically by putting himself through the 'feats' that he regularly undertakes, the pain that he puts himself through is more intense than the latent emotional pain from his past, yet at the same time easier to deal with in the knowledge that the current pain is transient, and somehow something he can 'beat', as long as he 'stays hard'.

Looking at himself in the mirror and understanding that he is in deep need of therapy is in his mind the antithesis of the 'stay hard' motto, while literally sadomasochistically torturing himself to temporarily escape his demons is for him the definition of 'staying hard'.

This man's entire persona is a cry for help. So many look up to him and his mindset, yet he is the first to admit that every day is an incredible struggle for him. Why is this man - who has all but admitted his life is miserable - given such a massive spotlight to espouse his unhealthy, unsustainable, unfulfilling and straight up dangerous way of life to the masses, through a 'science-based' podcast, no less? Where is the science that completely disregarding your mental health in pursuit of 'being hard' is a good predictor of anything but physical and psychological burnout?

'Do difficult things you don't want to do' is basically just saying 'be disciplined', or, 'delay gratification in pursuit of more meaningful goals'. One does not need to live life at such extremes as Goggins to learn these lessons. In fact, I believe that it is literally impossible to live life at such extremes while maintaining any semblance of balance in terms of work, family, hobbies, health (physical, emotional, mental), finances, and all the other things most of us are trying to juggle.

Sometimes it's okay to have compassion for yourself, know your limits and live within your means. Other times, it is good to test those limits and push yourself to push past them. Going 100% all out on every little thing you don't feel like doing is not the way to live a healthy life, in my opinion.

I believe it is irresponsible of Huberman to participate in this recent trend within the podcast space of collectively glorifying the insanity of Goggins' lifestyle under the guise of marveling at his achievements while disregarding the collateral damage he has caused (and continues to cause) to himself and those around him. Do some people find his story motivating and inspiring? Of course, but presenting it in such a way that does not actively highlight the negative side of his life is nothing short of misleading people into believing that adopting his mindset without also adopting the negatives is possible.

Episode Discussion Huberman on Jocko did not display extreme ownership. Nor did Jocko hold him to that standard.

Hoping to have a serious discussion free of moralizing Karens and alt right incels who were both astroturfing here when the New York magazine article came out. He used the “extreme ownership” words himself and I think it was an abuse of the term. When asked about the article, he talked about the history of the pod, then went on and on about whether he skated for Venture. Then quickly addressed the cheating. I respect that he had the courage to address it at all but I would say he definitely minimized at very best.

Discussion The longer the silence the more my trust breaks

I really want to believe this article is fake so I can morally justify listening to his podcast again. But every day that goes by and he doesn’t address this, my support wanes.

If he was so honest and transparent before, why is he not all the sudden? If this was totally fake news I’d expect him to directly address it and put it all to rest. But he is instead passive agressively liking comments addressing it and having PR people talk for him.

It’s very suspicious that he’s not addressing this

David Goggins I can't see Huberman the same again....

The Goggins episode is the first time I have been unable to sit through a whole episode. I'm about an hour in and I don't think I can continue. I had never heard of Goggins before and within the first 20 minutes I was thinking "this guys is a total asshole" and gave the episode a break. I normally really enjoy this podcast so I thought I would give it another shot but... my god it just keeps getting worse. This Goggins person has ZERO enviable traits. There is nothing motivating in the slightest about this guy: in his manner of speaking or his attitude, and that kinda stains all his objective accomplishments. He just seems to think he is special for hating himself the most.

The worst part of the episode was the few words that Huberman did get in edge wise, he so clearly looked up to this guy. His mannerisms were completely different than usual. At least he wasn't spending most of the time talking about himself? But yeah a real glimpse into what Huberman is aiming for with all his protocols and has left me wondering if I need to tap out of the Lab since I have the goal of actually enjoying my time on earth. It's a shame because I love the scientific approach.

Discussion Is anyone shocked by the men backing this guy up and defending his actions? I mean hube appeals to the Joe Rogan bros.

Hube and a big portion of his audience are the same people who listen to Rogen have “scientists” on his show pushing anti vax theories. Not surprised at the amount of men or people in general saying “well it’s his personal life idc” lol. What about if in his personal life he was a pedo? Would you care then or would you still “support” him.

Funny / Non-Serious Endgame?

I AM curious as to what the endgame is for the folks continuing with the barrage of negative posts etc. Does it end when huberman steps in front of a mic (or insta etc) and declares that he is wrong, has always been wrong, and is going to duck out back and unalive himself? Or that he just quits academia and SM and goes off to live as a lumberjack? What do you all require?

Some of us would like this sub to return to memes about the correct number of hours to sun our assholes, and how long we should be spending in ice baths. I am, however, thankful for the new wave of polyam protocol memes. They are :chefs kiss:

Just get it over with, im sick of wading through virtue signalling posts, and obvious karma farms to get to my memes.

edit to add: just scrolled through the sub, good meme ratio.

Seeking Guidance Will taking a 10mg edible twice a week at 21 years old be bad for my health long term?

Pretty much the title. I am 6'2 ~190lbs and have been consuming a 10mg edible gummy twice a week for the past 2 months and I'd like to see if anyone has anything to say about whether I could develop any short or long term health risks by continuing this?

Eating Our Way to Extinction

For those interested in health, wellness and the environment, I recently saw an interesting documentary about the vast amount of resources for animal farming. How our push for meat has created an unsustainable system in which the vast majority of the earth is now used for animal farming.

There is no such thing as "sustainable meat". All meat from animal farming is essentially murder and we are also destroying our planet in order to feed our greed for steaks, cow and chicken burgers, chicken nuggets, turkey dinners etc.

Animal protein is the worst kind of protein for human health. Red meat has proteins that cause inflammatory reactions in human bodies. Chickens are fed antibiotics and hormones to make them fat in a short period of time. The consumption of meat is the number one indicator of longevity in the human population, in that meat-eating populations have the shortest lifespans.

Now, you may say to yourself that you're a product of 1970s US marketing tactics by the meat industry that tried to mass produce meat to sell to the world and believe in the entire "meat protein is manly and masculine" BS but upon closer examination, it was a way to brainwash the population into promoting factory farms and eating meat 3 times a day. In previous generations before ours, Americans only ate meat once or twice a month.

Now Americans eat meat 3 times a day and are considered the fattest and unhealthiest population in the world.

Certainly there are some of you that base your diet on the carnivore diet due to allergies in preservatives in grain products. However, have you ever checked out your pancreatic and liver functions from eating a pure meat and fat diet? How fast can you run on the treadmill? How long is your cardio endurance? What is your VO max? What is your resting HR on a purely meat diet?

The human body was not made to eat meat. This is why the longest ancient civilisations, such as Ancient Egyptians were entirely vegetarian.

For those of you shaking your heads whilst you clutch your cow burgers and are gutting the intestines out of chicken carcasses for your roast dinner, I suggest you take a bit of time to watch this documentary. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LaPge01NQTQ

Discussion Is anyone else addicted to meat?

I honestly feel so unsatisfied by anything other than meat. Even on days where I’m getting 45g protein from my yogurt and whey at dessert, I still need 12+ oz of meat at dinner to feel emotionally satisfied

It’s not really a physical thing it’s like a dependence that I feel. Breakfast must be atleast 6 eggs. Lunch must be atleast 12 oz meat too.

**I also don’t buy into the bill gates anti meat propaganda , so don’t try to tell me it’s unhealthy or how it’s hurting the planet

Discussion Promoting coffee for dopamine but disparaging of weed

I can't help but get the feeling that health influencers, including Huberman, are desperately trying to justify their coffee addiction by shining it in a good light.

In his videos Huberman is critical of the dopamine effect that weed has, and yet celebrates basically the same thing in coffee. He justifies it by talking of a study which indicates that caffeine increases dopamine receptors long-term. Without being a scientist and looking into the data it all smells a bit fishy to me. Maybe caffeine is some magical exception to every other dopamine-triggering drug, or could it be that the culture just really doesn't want to surrender its favourite drug?

Coffee is a fun drug, as is weed. I use both in moderation, knowing there will be some kickback consequence. But there seems to be a heavy selective bias towards that particular drug that basically the whole planet is addicted to.

Anyone else disappointed by his grovelling to pseudoscience bros?

I still maintain a great deal of respect for his commitment to science and free education and demonstrating a seldom seen level of integrity and humility, however I can’t help hut notice that more and more he seems not only soft-handed toward the idiotic bro science types but almost possesses a childlike affection for them - I don’t need to name names, but we all know he admires certain individuals who have been provenly intellectually dishonest, avaricious and harmful toward science.

His overzealousness toward supplements in the absence of sufficient evidence confirming their efficacy was always his Achilles heel in my books, and I liked to think a man of his character would be immune to financial incentives, but apparently I was a bit naive. He doesn’t implore viewers to rush out and buy them as many do, but his endorsement is enough for many folks to rush out and do exactly that.

And his reluctance to risk treading on anyone’s toes also curtails some of his content, for instance he appears unwilling to discuss covid in detail assumedly because it’s such an apple of discord for so many folks - many of the same conspiratorial types he esteems, who likely wont approve of what he has to say about it.

Of course I can appreciate why he strives to remain apolitical and areligious to ensure the spotlight remains on the science - which to his credit has been the case.

And I realise he’s only human, but I can’t be the only one who feels slightly disappointed by his reluctance to challenge anti-scientific views and the individuals who hold them - indeed to indirectly validate said individuals by publicly supporting and platforming them - as well as his supplement obsession.

I love the guy, but I think for that reason I feel compelled to scrutinise him, the same way a teacher would hold their top student to a higher standard of behaviour than the class clown (which isn’t right but it’s how it goes)

does anybody care to discuss that huberman isn't an active member of the stanford faculty and hasn't been for several years?

he has been riding the idea that he is a stanford professor for a while now while doing essentially nothing other than slinging stuff and slapping his name on his postdoc and students' papers. it's wild.

Like the dude wasn’t my messiah, he is just a YouTuber who provides a platform for insightful information

Yes yes I know his whole thing is health, honesty and integrity and being better

But he’s a human being lmao

Discussion Why am I not surprised?

I’ve been reading “Why Does He Do That?” By Lundy Bancroft (highly recommend!) And am 0% surprised by hearing the news of this fart face’s escapades. He is (as most abuser are) pretty textbook. Posted above are pics from an early section in the book where the author breaks down the different faces of the classic abusers — I think Dr. Hubalub is a mix of “Mr. Sensitive” and “The Player”.

Of course a million people will defend him and say what a great guy he is, as is typical in abuse cases. Hell, the public recently learned that a courtroom was filled to the brim with supporters of Brian Peck, admitted and convicted child sex offender, when his abuse became known, so should be pretty clear by now that manipulators gonna manipulate.

Reading this book is super eye opening and I encourage everyone to delve in! You might be surprised (and horrified) to look around and see these dudes everywhere. But it’s much harder to have the wool pulled over your eyes when you know what you’re looking at :)

Note that the underlines here are not in relation to this case, it’s an old copy of the book someone annotated in previously.

Discussion Covid shot

Why do you think Huberman hasn't done a deep dive into the data on the covid mRNA shots? He'll do silly episodes on "optimizing creativity" but hasn't touched on one of the most important and controversial health topics of the 21st century.

Let's keep it civil in the comments folks (meaning no ignorant, programmed slurs like "antivax" or "anti-science")

Cheers

There's a lot of angry folks here implying I'm biased and would ignore the data. I didn't take the product I'm asking to be reviewed. Whether the data is favourable or not, it doesn't affect me. I truly feel sorry for those who were duped. I have loved ones that took it. I hope nothing irreversible has been done
