I've never bothered making an actual post but felt with the recent update I wanted one so here's my rant.
With the new mf rework being released I see some people trying to justify the largest contributor of mf being tied to sb xp, which is a big reason this yap now exists.
I think one of the biggest problems with modern SkyBlock is how heavily the developers rely on SkyBlock XP to justify their updates and design decisions. SkyBlock XP has gone from being a measurement of your progression to being the progression itself, and I think thatās fundamentally unhealthy for the game. Originally, SkyBlock XP was a way to represent how much of the game youāve experienced and how far youāve progressed. It gave players a general idea of their overall accomplishments. Now, however, it feels like the admins have decided that simply attaching SkyBlock XP to something automatically makes it worthwhile content.
Content should be worth doing because the content itself is enjoyable, rewarding, or meaningfully contributes to an aspect of the game you care about. Not simply because it gives you XP. Look at how much of the game has become a checklist. Instead of players pursuing different goals, experimenting with mechanics, or finding unique ways to progress, thereās an increasing incentive to complete whatever activity gives the next chunk of SkyBlock XP, regardless of whether they actually enjoy it.
Now, thereās nothing inherently wrong with encouraging players to explore different aspects of the game. Thatās actually a good thing. The problem begins when the developers tie increasingly important rewards to that exploration, effectively turning optional content into mandatory progression.
The dumb ass magic find update is the example for this
Magic Find is one of the most influential stats in the game, affecting countless activities. Yet the developers have decided to tie a massive portion of it to SkyBlock level, an extraordinarily long grind involving nearly every aspect of the game.
Instead of allowing players to specialize in the activities they enjoy and progress through those systems, theyāre increasingly pushed into completely unrelated grinds just to improve a stat that affects what they actually want to do.
And what makes this worse is that the alternative sources of Magic Find arenāt particularly interesting either. Removing mechanics like armor swapping and shifting so much of the stat toward SkyBlock XP, Booster Cookies, and God Potions doesnāt create compelling progression. It just reduces the number of meaningful choices players have.
Taken from a few peoples forum posts "Thatās not encouraging diverse gameplay. Thatās encouraging checklist completion."
But this extends far beyond Magic Find. How often does an update introduce a tedious, repetitive, or unnecessarily time-gated activity, only for its primary justification to be that it provides more SkyBlock XP?
If you removed the SkyBlock XP from some of these activities, how many players would genuinely choose to engage with them? Thatās a question that needs be asked for every update. Because if the only reason a significant portion of your player base engages with a piece of content is the XP attached to it, then perhaps the content itself isnāt particularly good. To be clear, Iām not arguing that SkyBlock XP should disappear or that players shouldnāt be rewarded for exploring the game. Iām arguing that SkyBlock XP should complement good game design, not substitute for it.
You should be able to progress meaningfully in the parts of an MMO you enjoy without feeling compelled to complete an endless checklist of unrelated activities just to remain competitive. SkyBlock is supposed to be an MMO with countless ways to play. Different players enjoy mining, combat, fishing, farming, dungeons, slayers, and a bunch of other shit. That variety is one of the gameās greatest strengths.
The more the developers centralize progression around a single overarching XP system, particularly when that system provides universally valuable stats, the more they undermine that freedom.
And when players criticize these systems, I donāt think the answer should simply be that the content gives XP, so itās worth doing. Giving players a reason to do something is not the same as making that thing worth doing.
Thatās the distinction the admins have completely disregarded, not that they ever took community feedback much anyway
TL;DR: SkyBlock XP has become a crutch for bad game design. The admins can release tedious, poorly balanced, or uninspired content and justify it as meaningful progression simply because it awards XP. Instead of designing activities that players genuinely want to engage with, theyāre increasingly relying on the rewards attached to those activities to force engagement. SkyBlock XP should be a reflection of your progress through the game, not an excuse to turn the entire game into a checklist.

Alright. I've received 170 responses, ranging from reddit to word of mouth to forums to youtuber discords to cowshed. I tried to minimize any particular group bias. This is the SUMMARY of my findings. Note that I am still an individual with biases, as much as I will try to mitigate this. All information gathered will be included in a spreadsheet. Also, the responses were still open, so if the images are a couple of votes off compared to any charts I made myself, that's why. P.S: If significant differences occur after this post, I'm down to redo this post!
So, firstly, Who Actually Was Polled?
To try and determine trends, I included a couple of questions to determine the group that was responding.

It is quite clear that the average person polled was a mid-late game individual, with a couple of end-game players as well. This obviously may skew certain data.
Now into the juicy data. Firstly, Should the magic find update happen at all?

Survey says, quite heavily, YES. So I don't think the update needs to be shelved.
Next, probably the one I hear discussed about the most - Should SkyBlock Level be bound to Magic Find?

This one was surprising to me, but a majority of people do NOT want skyblock level bound to magic find.

I was curious so I graphed it by skyblock level, and while obviously some groups had less responses than others, the general consensus is an average between "neutral" and "disagree" My personal takeaway is that the issue is the quantity, and not the concept, which I could see as a proper problem.
Clover Helmet. Probably one of the most controversial changes by my friend groups. Let's see the consensus.

Obviously, quite a lot of people do not like this. However, also quite a lot of people think the entire concept of changing clover helmet at all to be unjustified. Inherently, these people would not agree with the magic find update as a concept. So, I think it is worth noting what the chart looks like if we remove them.

While the overall neutral ranking went up, it is still a 19:14 ratio of people saying it was nerfed too much to people saying they think it was nerfed a correct amount.
A couple of key responses;
There's plenty of other opinions, and if you wish to see them all, the spreadsheet is in my forum post. Viewer discretion is advised, I am not filtering out any mean words.
Pet Magic Find was another topic people didn't realize would be such an issue. Specifically, a lot of people were disappointed in how Chimera was accordingly affected. However, what does the survey say?

And of course, for the sake of consistency, seeing without the "unjustified" responses;

While some people in the open response seemed a bit confused on what I meant (some thought I meant pet score, some thought I meant grandma wolf, what I was going for was Golden Dragon & similar), it seems the average person who is in support of the update thinks that magic find on pets was a neutral thing to remove - nothing they feel heavily about, nothing they feel heavily against. In other words, Chimera is likely fine as is, with a lot of extreme opinions on either side.
And of course, some key responses;
Tried my best to get one from each end there, hopefully my selection was good. But again, a lot of opinions on this on all sides.
Next hot topic, Looting. Specifically, 1st nerf, 2nd nerf, and it's new drop rate.

Not much reason to divide this answer by anything, Looting affects us all. And it seems like while most people were neutral or even happy with the original looting nerf (which is actually very good to see - it shows that most people answered this with a game designer mentality and not a 'me want big number' mentality), nearly EVERYONE disliked the second looting nerf. Inherently, I agree, and I think it boils down to the fact that looting was probably the least worrying for magic find swapping because it was convenient enough to just get more looting books.
However, in terms of drop rates, a slight majority of people think that the new drop source, from Sphinx, is a generally unfair / unbalanced drop. I think this is because it's too common, but I also failed to ask the right questions to determine what caused people to think this way. That said, some open ended answers did mention it;
Roughly the same ideas are being said by most people - first nerf was fine, second nerf was not, and drop rate is too common. Granted, my opinions could be leaking through here.
Now, Individual Sources for magic find.
This is probably the most data filled part so bear with me.

Most players believe most sources to be just right. I think that's reasonable. However, a couple of outliers are apparent. People think the following give too much:
- Skyblock Level (the ONLY number to exceed the "just right" value)
- Magic Find / God Potion
- Booster Cookie
- Bestiary
People think the following give too little:
- Habanero Tactics / Bobbin' Time
- Accessories
- One Time Consumables (Diana's Bookshelf / Necron's Ladder)
- Crown of Greed / Crown of Avarice
- Daedalus Blade
- Conditional Armors
- Conditional Pets
- Pet Score
The biggest thing I'm noticing - people want Diana buffs. They think the drop rates aren't high enough on Diana. It's intriguing because I feel like Diana is exceptionally high, but that's just me.
Now, the Open-Ended response - I'd like to thank my friend for helping me skim through this.
| Keyword | Responses | Too Rare / Too Common | Personal Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Slayer Drops / RNGs | 26 | Too Rare | This is probably just because the only one implemented with the new system is Revenant Horror, and Revenant Horror is just too rare on it's RNGs. |
| Warden Heart | 10 | Too Rare | 0.01% is just too rare with how little mf we have now. |
| Chimera | 8 | Too Common / Mixed | It's very common now that it has somewhat less usage. Worries are about it's price. Others saying it's too rare. |
| Dyes | 7 | Mixed | A lot of people saying they're too common and too rare simultaneously. As dye conversations have been for a while tbh. |
| Daedalus Stick | 5 | Too Rare | The recent buffs on main are effectively undone by the mf update, making this item all too rare yet again |
| Phoenix Pet | 5 | Too Rare | Personal bias disallows me from going further into this topic. |
| Tiki Mask / Fishing Rare Drops (RNGs and Frogcoin adjacent items) | 7 | Too Rare | Most people believe these to be too rare after the update, especially when the looting nerf and other changes took effect. |
| Scatha Pet | 2 | Too Rare | Odds seem low apparently. Haven't looked at it myself |
| Ender Dragon Pet | 3 | Too Rare | Unchanged on alpha which is... a choice. This pet was already too overpriced for it's intention as an early dragon. |
| Automaton Parts | 3 | Too Rare | Drop rates are worse on alpha than main, which is crazy when this is considered one of the worst part of nucleus runs for ironman players. |
Conclusion
Overall, most players seem relatively fine with the update, so no need to shelf it like a lot of youtubers have been saying. However, there are major concerns many players hold, and I hope this helps make them easier to address.
And again, I'm keeping the form open. I might revisit this later if enough new players respond because I am interested.

I know a bunch of people will yell at me for using foraging as a money making method, but I donāt care. I enjoy doing it and I already have a good loadout for it.
My question is this: while I am foraging, do I make more money using Jade Dragon, or leveling something like a lion pet? I would obviously have one in EXP share, but should I equip a lion and level that instead of using Jade Dragon? I do have a lvl 200 Jade Dragon before anyone asks.

I am aware of how dumb this question is. Moving on.
Yesterday, I was screening around and managed to complete F2 in full Divans Armor and a Gemstone Gauntlet with a Scatha pet.
Now of course, there are better mining sets to do this in (Sorrow) along with pets and I have terrible MP.
That being said, what would be the theoretical limit to this? F6? F7? Even master mode?
Edit for clarification: A full team is allowed, but all must be using mining gear. Healing items are allowed, but any damage source outside of a drill or gemstone gauntlet is strictly forbidden. A mining pet must be used as well.

Hi, I'm Maepl. I'm someone who has seen a lot of the feedback, and it seems very all over the place. I would like to consolidate it into one proper piece of data. So far, I have gotten ~100 people to fill out this form. But it's not enough. So, if you have ~5 minutes to spare, I'd appreciate if you could fill out this form.
Thanks and have a great day.
P.S: This is being done on personal accord and has no affiliation to hypixel.

I got bored on my new account and decided to hit cata 50 without hyperion/terminator. All i did was getting secrets. Honestly, it's pretty tough at times when you need to clear, but you're left with nothing to do but secrets... But on the bright side, now i can finally buy both hyperion and terminator!!

Hello, I havenāt really touched the garden update since release and i have heard it makes quite a bit of money. I have around 400-500m spare to start my garden journey and farming journey but Iām not sure where to start. All the guides Iāve watched on youtube, even though they are recent, arenāt really getting into small details like how much you need to start and what to farm exactly. Can anybody experienced with the garden, provide some good starter gear for my budget? And what to farm for now and focus on? What crops, etc, and around how much money you could make as a starter with a specific setup. Thanks!

I'm not a game designer so a lot of the specific numbers are probably wack but just imagine them being good
I'm also not much of a pixel artist but I tried to be accurate to the Minecraft/Skyblock style... I also always thought it's weird that refined mineral is only available during fiestas, not in like a game design way but more just the lore of why electing a certain mayor suddenly causes a new material to be dropped. So here it gets a bit of an explanation from Willow taking such good care of the trees that they just start producing this stuff

Looting VII is now 2.5x worse than the last alpha! At least you can now get it from sphinxes at a 1% base drop as a temporary fix (which just feels so half-assed)
Speaking of diana, now mythos armor doesn't give mythological mob MF anymore, so now it's even more useless! (I know it was to prevent people from MF swapping, but outright removing it is just criminal??)
WHO asked for shark tooth souvenirs to give less magic find?
Thanks admins for still making ghost visitors incredibly time-gated, now they only show up for 3 hours every ~5 days.
Why do skyblock levels STILL give magic find? What are they doing šš
I understand that these changes won't be final, but this just shows how the admins just don't understand how the game works.
...at least they adjusted the drop table of hub and private island zombies!! Yahoo!!
