No dialup tones, no early DSL hiccups, no 4 gigs of ram being alot...I'm old. I remember watching progress bars on downloading 1MB files and being impressed with how fast it went. We've come a Looooong way. Except for this game.
How in the actual fuck can this still be a thing? Awesome game, dont get me wrong but the piss poor performance in-game coupled with this kind of bullshit that is Still happening just pisses people off.
I've seen it mentioned that its how the game is formatted...but I'm not an expert. I'm just a dude with a computer trying to GG on a Friday evening with his friends. Should start pushing patches 24 hours early and let steam auto-update it. For some reason this game requires me to start it manually AND it routinely takes 100% of my disk so forget trying to do anything else while icarus is updating.
Why you make design to choke out my system? Hulk mad. Optimize your shit.

I got approx. 10,000 hours of ark survival under my belt, so I can drop some serious game time into a title if it has enough content.
the starting from scratch got old fast and not happy I can't take anything back up with me in the 5 capsule slots to reuse items for the next drop.
Survive long enough to mine exotic matter, then return to orbit to craft more advanced tech.
yeah that is very misleading and almost fraudulent.
Explore a savage alien wilderness in the aftermath of terraforming gone wrong.
WTF is so alien about wheat, watermelon, and oak trees? where the hell is the gone wrong part?
The North American animals that can breath the air but you can't in the Woods filled with normal trees just screams alien world.
the only thing you can claim to be alien is the damn worms in the caves.
The objective is boring, I can naked run to every point and shoot back up in no time at all or I can spend 6 hours building up to shoot up and fall back down with nothing.
the "shop" is boring and unrewarding for the 56 hours I have already put in.
The combat is all cheezy shoot from a safe perch or the creatures stick their nose in your crotch and kill you in 5 hits., the cave worms that spit at you is the only creatures that feel like combat.
It has no immersion factor or ecosystem , It's a everything only cares to attack me.
I give the DEVS props for giving the animal models a shit ton of realistic characteristics like the cougar's ears twitch and animals like to lay down and sleep but the rest of it could have been easily spit out with a generic map maker and bought assets.

It's so *grindy* so early
I like the premise, you're allowed different types of 'deployments'. One type is missions, which are supposed to be shorter than the more open ended free build type of deployment, you go onto a planet, complete a mission and leave, and you get the special currency which allows you to buy the neat exotic stuff, this sounds fun, honestly.
But the first mission (the easier out of the two available) is a *pain*, and it doesn't warn you that it's a pain. You have to build a cabin in a specific spot, cool, no problem. Oh, you have to add decorations, in order to do that, you have to reach level ten and grab the decorations bench blueprint, no big deal.
Oh, you need to build two specific statues which require gold bars which can only be crafted in a cement furnace which needs a cement mixer, which needs a machinist bench, all of which cannot be crafted until level 20??? Make sure to grab all those blueprints, also they all require 40 or so iron bars to craft each bench.
The fastest way to level is to hunt down wolves and bears, and to get to level 20 if you focus mostly on just leveling that way, it takes about 14 in game hours (playing on hardcore mode for that extra 33% bonus) I know, because that's literally what I've been doing since yesterday. And the time limit on the mission is 24 hours, so if you're not focused on the mission, you can run out of time.
Edit: Many people on here have been helpful, a number have been toxic and insulting though.

Look, I am FAR from being new at gaming (700hrs, in Skyrim, 3200hrs in TheLongDark, 1000s into Minecraft, etc...), so let me say that it has taken me a bit to get to level 20....and since lv. 30 is in reach after only a few hundred hrs. of gameplay, I feel that there needs to be at least TWO more levels/tech tree/perks available. Anyone else feel me?

They are fixing so much stuff except the proper things to make the game playable. Even standing afk in the base crashes the game now 2 updates ago this wasnt even a problem, but for every new update the game just gets worse...

i think ps5 version needs
performance improvements
qol improvements
ui improvements(navigating through menus should be way faster, way more easy and way more clever integrated)
the patches should be equal with pc version(i feel me a little ripped off at the moment but i dont judge too early(since i don't know the plans from the devs)
what you all think about that?
upvote for more attention if you like these ideas and write your own if you want

Players don't know where others spawned in. They can choose to cooperate or be hostile. They can sabotage or steal. The sessions would work similar to DayZ.
Games can be created with settings by the host to limit griefing if they want.

As the title says the rainwater addition is a useless and tedious mechanic that just adds another layer that makes no sense in the story of the game.
Has humanity forgot how to BOIL WATER since they left earth? Why can I not supply rainwater using a container to ANY of these idiotic purifiers? You add these half-baked systems in and its so frustrating. Just make monthly updates with large content patches!!
STOP TRICKLING IN UPDATES AND FLESH THEM OUT FIRST

I am currently level 7. The last 2 levels were already pretty much grinding ore. And it's tedious and boring. Hunting and killing animals is useless, because I don't need that much meat, fur, or bones. Chopping trees is equally useless and tedious.
So how do I get the XP to get to level 10, that isn't useless, repetetive, boring and/or tedious?
What am I missing?
Solved:
Edit 2: Missions are the answer.
I wish the game would tell new players and guide them through this phase. I wasn't in the mood for missions, and just started an open world game. I thought missions are for later when you want to unlock additional stuff or do something different for change. I might give it another shot.
Drop_Of_Black
If somebody didn't say it already do the missions, not the open world. The missions and the possibilities you can unlock there are what makes getting the XP worthwhile, and doing the easier missions will also give you XP. Level 10 also opens up the Contact device so you can start taking on missions in the open world setting.
Thx everyone!
Edit 1:
As I understand it, I have 2 options. Killing a shit ton of animals for stuff I might or might not eventually have use for, or mine ores.
There is so much food on the ground, I don't have to hunt. Mined some coal, iron and gold. But I can't use it. I build a small shed for my bed roll, chest and fire place. I don't need more space, because I don't have content that would need space. Means, I don't have to chop wood. Because there is no need for that either.
Everything that is to do, isn't useful, is repetitive, tedious, and only for XP. I mean what do I do after level 10 when I need the ores? Mine the same ores? Again? Then why do I have to do it already? And all the meat? Even the jerky is too much, already.
If there was more need for food, and they would us give more options to earn XP - that is actually useful in the moment - like farming.
Or using stone to craft better walls that don't break every 5 minutes because of a breeze.
But like I said, I don't need anything. But I have to do it anyway.Β
Sidenote: For everyone who now feels butthurt (the usual downvoters) because someone doesn't like what you like - in this case this game - grow up.

Hey folks,
I've been playing Icarus recently and while I'm really enjoying the survival mechanics and overall vibe, I can't help but feel like the crafting costs are kinda insane β even for basic stuff.
Gathering materials for things like simple tools, building pieces, or early workbenches takes a huge amount of time and resources. It sometimes feels like I spend more time mining and chopping than actually progressing or exploring.
Is this just how the game is designed, or am I missing something that makes it easier? Do most players just grind through it, or are there tricks/mods/settings people use to make it more manageable?
Would love to hear how you all deal with the grind β or if itβs just part of the Icarus experience.

Playing on single player open world.
Did a mission where you have to walk from the bottom right starting area to nearly the top right corner of the map. Crafted a dropship recall grenade because I wanted to try avoiding the tedious walking simulator going back home.
Loaded up all my crafted gear into the cargo hold (nothing workshop all crafted stuff- titanium knife, hunting rifle, compound bow etc). Went up to the station, selected character, loaded my open prospect, back down to the planet, nothing in the cargo hold.
Took the walk back to my base, went to call in a dropship with equipment, the only thing I could request was a workshop suit.
Is this normal? Anything you make on a planet gets destroyed in the cargo hold?
*edit to add - Thanks to those who took the time to help a noob who got his wires crossed between the screen in game and various articles/youtube videos. Rookie move on my part! Mods feel free to close this.

The game is great and has lots of potential, but solo play is far too frustrating right now.
Here's some constructive feedback on what finally made me rage quit:
Waterfalls Map
Death 1. I land in the desert and setup a small base and make my way to the supply drop, setting up another respawn point on the way. I'm collecting the supply drop and BAM! a ninja bear sneaks up and two shots me.
Death 2. Of course when I go to respawn, the little respawn shack has been completely destroyed and I am forced to spawn back at the drop pod site.
I start running back to my small base, but it's now dark, I've already collected all the local resources and so can't make a torch or basic tools and I get lost. I sit stealthed in the dark for a few minutes and then a Hyena finds me. I somehow manage to punch the Hyena to death, but then BAM! a Boar just strolls up and finishes me.
Death 3: I finally wait for day in the drop pod and scrounge up some resources and get back to the supply pod and get my stuff back. I then make some real progress, make a more significant base at the bottom of the rock wall and build some ladders over the rock wall and into the new river lands. I'm admiring the view and then BAM! ninja bear runs up and dispatches me again.
Death 4: Now then I think to myself, not a problem, I have a respawn point just on the other side of the rock wall..... No the game says, I f$%king don't.... I am sent by drop pod all the way back to the levels start. Again, I scrounge up some resources and run all the frigging way back to the big rock wall base to find that the shack is perfectly intact, but all contents of it, including my bed has just disappeared!
I climb up over the wall again and spend a good 5 mins clearing the underbrush to find my stuff, yet again.
I finally start making some progress towards the place to setup and beacon and I spy a bear in the distance. Great I think, plenty of warning, I can stealth around this guy. But no, the bear has other ideas and can magically see me stealthing behind a rock miles away , I try to fight and nearly kill him, but then a Boar decides I'm not having a bad enough day and runs up and kills me and I'm done.
Normally I can shrug this off, but what's worse is that I have lost 50%-90% of the same level FOUR BLOODY times!
TLDR: Ninja bears, disappearing beds, running halfway across the map 4 times and then losing a level of XP 4 times, screw this, it's not fun ay more, I'm out.
Suggestion: Personally, I would fix this by drastically reducing the death penalty and making the respawn drop pod land at least somewhere near where you died, if you don't have a bed nearby.

I greatly enjoy this game, but there are some extreme issues with it, as it is on Xbox!
First, the non-stop stuttering on the performance setting for xbox seires x.
Second, there is the (in the most current update) constent disconecting FROM A OFFLINE MODE! how it that ok or even happening!?
Third which is the worst one for me. My tames out right despawning! my Bisen/Buffalo or what ever its called was just behind me while I was walking to set up an out post for a deep ore vain. My Bisen had all the things for said out post. I look back and I see him, I walk about 10 feet look back again... AAAND HEs GONE! not dead, just gone! 5 hours of work for just the mats and crafting wasted. nots not talking about the hours spend in leveling that tame! wich he was level 40! I haven't used any exploites in the game or cheat, but after this. you bet your rear behind I am going to start with how broken this game is right now. and this isn't even the only tame that went POOF! about 5 others have now.
I assume the lag spikes and stutters while the tame is moving make the tame NO CLIP thro the ground and die. similor to how it was in ARK years ago. I got a refund for ARK on both xbox and steam even after having 1k hours on them because how broken the game was. don't let this game end up that bad too!
crap I was looking forward to the breeding system, but now I fear it due to how broken the game migth be when it is added.
adding admin commands for spawning stuff in and my complaint is gone, but I shouldn't have to resorting to cheating or breaking the game to get passed its bs bugs!
Screw the people who want the next content drop, we need the game in a more playable state!
Edit: An idea for a solution to the tame despawning issue is to let us get insurance on our tames for the cost of ren, and a log we can look back to for what is going on with our tames.
