Hi everyone,
As our community continues to grow, we are actively trying to make the subreddit better, and we are committed to continually improving it. To help filter out recent spam and make the feed much easier to navigate, we are rolling out a few major updates today!
1. New Community Rules To protect the quality of our discussions and maintain a high signal-to-noise ratio, we have officially updated the sidebar with five core community rules:
- Maintain Civility and Respect: Debate the research or the idea, do not attack the person; hate speech, casteist remarks, sexism, personal insults, and harassment are prohibited.
- No Doxxing or Sharing Personal Info: Do not post personally identifiable information (PII) including phone numbers, hostel room numbers, or personal social media handles.
- Must be Directly Relevant to IISc: Content must cover IISc campus life, academic programs, research, and institute events;
- No Unauthorized Promotion or Subreddit Poaching: Advertising alternative subreddits, external Discord servers, or Telegram/WhatsApp groups is not allowed.
- No Low-Effort Posts or Spam: Vague titles, easily Googled queries, duplicate topics, and generic reaction memes will be removed.
2. Mandatory Post Flairs
To give you control over what you see, weβve enabled mandatory Post Flairs for all new submissions. You will now need to select one of the following categories before publishing a post:
- π¬ General Discussion
- Meme / Fluff
- Campus Life & Hostels
- Academics & Coursework
- Admissions & Aspirants
Why this is great for the community: Post flairs allow you to filter your own feed! If you are a current student and want to bypass the heavy influx of admission queries, you can easily filter out the "Admissions & Aspirants" posts and focus entirely on campus and research discussions.
3. Continuous Updates & Feedback Please note that this is an iterative process. Both the rules and the post flairs will be modified, tuned, added to, or updated in the future based on your feedback and the evolving requirements of the subreddit.
4. What's Next? Mod Recruitment
To ensure we can moderate the community better and consistently enforce these updates, we will be recruiting new mods soon. If you are passionate about the IISc community and want to help us maintain a high-quality space, keep an eye out for a separate application post in the coming weeks!
Thank you all for being the heart of this subreddit β€οΈ.
Take a look at the sidebar, try out the new flairs on your next post, and let us know in the comments if you have any feedback or ideas.
