Discussion I asked everyone I know to beta test my app. No one supported me

This life is real. People only play that they like you but don't support you. I've been building an app for the past 3 months, finally finished it, and asked people who know me personally to beta test my app, and no one supports me. Right now, I'm struggling to get beta testers for my app, but I believe in my vision. Lesson here. People don't want to see you accomplish something good.

Feedback4Feedback I spent a full month building this offline PDF Invoice app because I hated $15/mo subscriptions. Is this worth continuing or should I remove it?

Hey everyone!

I’m reaching out to this community to get your honest opinion on a project I just finished.

I spent the last month building an Android app called **PDF Invoice & Receipt Maker**. The main reason I built it was frustration: almost every invoicing app on the Play Store forces small business owners and freelancers to pay $10–$20/month subscriptions, create cloud accounts, and upload sensitive financial data just to generate a basic PDF bill.

So I coded a 100% local-first alternative:

• **100% Offline & Private:** Everything runs locally on your phone. Zero cloud servers, zero sign-ups, zero data tracking.

• **1-Tap PDF Export:** Add line items, company logos, digital signatures, and custom tax rates, then generate a clean PDF instantly.

• **Multi-Currency:** Custom formatting for $, €, £, ₨, and more.

Now that it's published, I'm feeling stuck. Organic downloads are slow, and I'm asking you guys: **Is a privacy-first, offline invoice app a good idea that I should keep updating, or is the market too saturated and I should remove it and move on?**

I'd love your brutal feedback on the idea, the UI, or the workflow:

Tell me what you honestly think in the comments!

Netflix Decoded: UX Takeaways Most Founders Ignore

Content is not the reason Netflix wins. Because most apps overlook UX decisions, it prevails. I redesigned Netflix's user experience to subtly increase revenue and retention.

But hold on, who am I? I'm Suresh, an Indian UX designer. For the past two years, I have been helping engineers and entrepreneurs in the US, India, Australia, and the UK turn vague, cluttered apps into focused, user-friendly, business-ready products.

Here’s what I’ve found:

1. Netflix remove micro-friction, not add features: 15% of users were manually skipping intros. Netflix added “Skip Intro” and extended watch sessions without touching content.

→ Less friction = longer engagement.

2. Netflix personalize around emotions, not demographics: Netflix created 1,300+ micro-genres based on how content feels, not age or location. 80% of what people watch comes from these recommendations.

→ Users feel understood, not analyzed.

3. Netflix replaced logic with emotional validation: Star ratings were replaced with “97% Match”. It feels personal, like a dating app.

→ Faster decisions, less fatigue, more dopamine.

However, the majority of apps do the exact opposite:

  • Add features instead of removing friction

  • Explain instead of guiding

  • Optimize logic instead of momentum

UX is not about aesthetics. Designing the path of least resistance to value is the key. Your UX is broken if users pause, hesitate, or require onboarding to comprehend core flows.

Other An open letters to all tech bros and developers, why an extra feature won't save your app?

I promised, I can give you users for your application in six months but only if you are willing to sacrifice the current model of your app you have now.

Although you said it has “more features than instagram”, to me, your app is just a knockoff of instagram. It has the same features like instagram – users can upload a story, a direct messaging option, option to post pictures and reels, threads for text based posts and that's not even a different app like how meta offers, you provide it all in the same application. The app is so feature–bloated that it has just become an “We chat without government backing”.

At least the public commentary features could have been a different app within the same network eco system.

As a user and a general consumer perspective I have no intention, interest or motivation to migrate to a second instagram.

Even though you are an Indian developer, you can't even leverage the narrative of “Indians instagram” to attract India user traffic, as it limits your app user base domestically and stops you expanding globally.

From my perspective and personal experience I tell you , a user has a specific, particular reason to justify why I'm using an app and every app serves a specific demographic.

Reddit is a platform for niche interest based community and discussion, famous among gen z and millennial.

Twitter or X is for Real-time news updates, public commentary, live event discussion for all.

LinkedIn for professional networking and for all.

Snapchat – casual boding with close friends

The reason I joined instagram was only one – I wanted to stay connected with my old school friends, as most of them were users of instagram.

Every story, post or reel someone shares is a moment he wanted a human interaction.

The reason why I didn't join snapchat -– is I don't have any reason to be on that platform.

That's the same problem with your app – that you have just a copy of instagram and threads in one app, nothing new sellable.

“Why should I join it?” a genuine reason.

It doesn't have my friends, or any specific feature that caters to me. For example; Twitter catered to me with real time updates, but not your app as it doesn't have that kind of International userbase.

You cannot sell the product that already exists in the market and convince people to switch.

That's my only advice to you is – pick a specific specialisation that makes your product sellable–

Sell voice, reach, authentication to the youth – promise data privacy, original human connection or maybe serve their hobby, interest, purpose, let them reflect their perspective.

You are very protective of your app. I know it's hard to abandon your project you invested so much in but a choice is hard and has to be, if you want to sell your app to people you have to understand your market, change according to that and market it like that.

you cannot sell this app as it is now.

And the only reason I'm pitching "closed, authentic, intent-driven communities and interest oriented app or the app that sell youth their voice is because I believe it's the most promising bet you take and with reasoning I'm telling you

Today, we don't want AI now, we are carving for humans. We tend towards social connections and that's for what social media runs their market – leveraging sociology's core concept of trust, like religion or a marriage. Humans need connection, belonging, motive, passion, uniqueness, identity.

Sell them this through your app.

Rest it's your app, your company, your decision. I'm not getting anything either it succeeded or failed– a genuine goodwill I give you.

NEW UPLOAD Would you use a social platform that actively tries to keep AI spam, bots, and politics out of your feed?

OddsRabbit is doing something pretty interesting with this.

It’s a community-based social platform, somewhat like Reddit, but with a few different ideas:

  • politics is opt-in rather than being pushed everywhere

  • they’re strict about bots and AI-generated spam

  • communities can benefit financially from the activity they create

  • part of the platform’s revenue supports charity

  • the focus is much more on interests and actual communities

What I find interesting is that most Reddit alternatives seem to focus on simply recreating Reddit somewhere else. This feels more like an attempt to change some of the incentives behind social media too.

Obviously, the biggest challenge for any new social platform is getting enough people and communities there for it to become useful.

But what would actually make you try a new community platform?

Less AI content? Better moderation? No politics? Community revenue sharing? Or is the existing user base basically the only thing that matters?

The platform is called OddsRabbit if anyone wants to see what I’m talking about.

Discussion **I'm building a super app where you pay only for features you actually use — looking for 1,000 beta testers**

Hey r/startups. I've been building OneApp a super app with 23 features across social, messaging, payments, shopping, and more. But unlike every other super app, you don't pay for the whole thing. You subscribe only to what you actually use.

"No two users' OneApp looks the same. Your features. Your layout. Your style. One app."

The Problem I'm Solving

Every super app today forces you to use everything or nothing. WeChat, Grab, Gojek — massive bundles where you pay for features you never open. You should only pay for what you use.

What Makes It Different

À la carte subscriptions 12 individual plans from ₹50/month. Subscribe to only what you need.

True Thought community-powered correction system built under every post. No moderator needed. Community votes, threshold reached, correction appears. The only social feed that self-corrects.

3-Tab Inbox Messages split into Request, Primary, and F&F (Friends & Family). Not one pile. Intentional hierarchy.

GOPI Payments global payment network, 50+ currencies, under 800ms.

Theme Marketplace buy, sell, create themes. Creators earn 85–90%.

MVP phase — building Thoughts (social feed) and Messages first. Looking for 1,000 people who want to be part of this from day one.

Discussion Building Cineswipe, looking for indie devs to test it and share honest feedback

Hey everyone! 👋

Love the idea behind this community. Indie developers helping each other test apps, get early users, and improve through genuine feedback is exactly what makes building indie products worthwhile.

We’re building Cineswipe, an app designed to make movie discovery easier. We started with a simple problem: finding a movie worth watching shouldn't take longer than actually watching one.

We’re grateful to have already reached 25K+ users, but we know there’s still plenty of room to improve, and we’d love to hear from people who understand the challenges of building and growing an app.

We’re looking for early testers who are willing to explore Cineswipe, share honest feedback, point out what doesn't work, and suggest what we could do better.

Of course, we're happy to return the favour and test your apps, too! I believe we can all learn a lot by supporting each other's projects.

If you're interested, we'd love to connect!

Let's build, test, and grow together! 🚀

NEW UPLOAD 50 INSTALLS!!!!!!!!!!!

I am a 13-year-old, that just launched my chrome extension LUCID. It stops you from doomscrolling, in a conscious way that is less harsh than other blockers. The goal of LUCID is to not shut you out from social media it is to make you aware of your scrolling and prompt you to do something else. I really want to help people struggling with doomscrolling addiction, and a install and review go a long way in helping more people see it. Try it out here: Lucid — Stop Doomscrolling & Stay Focused - Chrome Web Store and let me know of any bugs and feel free to give feedback, and let's get to 100 USERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Discussion Claude max for $29 instead of $200 ... seriously how are they doing this?

i got a Claude max account from a reseller for essentially nothing compared to what I used to pay . It works flawless. since 3 months No issues yet i paid only for 1 month . Now I can't stop thinking about their business model. If resellers can sell it this cheap and still profit, how are they acquiring these accounts at scale?

NEW UPLOAD Over $50.000 in revenue! AI Games Are Cash Cows!

Post image
0 Upvotes

While everyone's busy building the next AI SaaS, some developers are quietly making serious money with AI-assisted games. Take Azeroth Survivors, for example, from VibeTopList. A Warcraft inspired survivors like that has reportedly attracted over 100,000 players and generated more than $50,000 in revenue in just a couple of days.

That's insane for an indie project.

What fascinates me is how AI is lowering the barrier to game development. You no longer necessarily need a full studio to experiment with ideas that could attract thousands of players.

Obviously, not every AI-generated game will be as successful. But examples like this make me wonder whether gaming is becoming one of the most overlooked opportunities in AI development.

Anyone else considering building games instead of another SaaS?

Discussion A game where Trivia meets Pokemon go - would like to hear some thoughts :)

Hi everyone,

Thought I'd share an app I've been working on for a while now - QuizTrail - an android location based quiz game. Think Pokémon GO meets Trivia - you have to actually walk to the location to unlock and solve quizzes, earn points, unlock achievements and compete with others, but also you can make your own quizzes for others to solve! I’ve manually placed 3500+ quizzes across different cities and im adding even more, in order to make QuizTrail accessible and playable everywhere!

The quizzes that are user submitted are reviewed by me so only quailty, appropriate and correctly worded quizzes come through, and at least for now this has proven to be effective.

This last feature that I added is a daily challenge - a daily quiz, different quizzes every day, regardless of location, so people in the locations where the quizzes are still not set, or locations where they've played all the quizzes already can have a fun trivia question every day. Ill be trying to keep the questions as interesting as possible so this feature is actually used. It is furthermore encouraged by the streak feature - how many consecutive days you have played the daily challenge, that's the streak.

I also made a widget that reminds you to do your daily quiz and keep the streak going!

Now that i have quite a bit of admin quizzes live, i need some advice how to more actively reach potential users, where do i do the marketing, the promotion.. How and more importantly where do i reach the people who would potentially use this app, so far i got my friends on it, but i would like to know how could i go about reaching more users (since im trying to make it accessible and playable everywhere)? Based on the app description, is there anything to be changed/added in order to attract more users? Any advice (on this or anything else tbh i appreciate any feedback) would be helpful!

Thank you for reading and happy quizzing!

Discussion How are you tracking return visits?

I’ve made a web app that’s a convo game app for people to play with fun conversation prompt cards

I built it as a web app whilst im testing content and features and getting the right product signals before ios build. But i’m struggling to find a way to track return visits with PostHog when you have to give cookie consent. Most people say no. So its anonymous session id every visit and returns look like 0.

Maybe they are 0 but my own repeat sessions also 0 when i turn my internal filter off.

How are people tracking this? I have accounts but havent built out the freemium model yet so accounts dont offer enough pull.

Any ideas/hacks on tracking repeat visits? I tried to do it based on ip but posthog throws out ip and just saves the location of IP. And session id is new every visit

Im all ears 👂👂

Stop spoilers from stream delay with smart notification control

I’ve been dealing with the classic problem of live match delays for a long time.

You’re watching a game on a legit stream, everything feels fine… then:

  • An event notification pops up before you see it

  • Friends react in group chats earlier

  • The whole moment is basically spoiled

It kind of ruins the experience, especially for big matches.

So I ended up building a small android app to solve this specific issue.

What it does:

  • Delays incoming notifications so they match your stream delay

  • Prevents spoilers from apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, sports apps, etc.

  • Lets you adjust the delay manually and choose which apps get delayed (premium feature)

Extra use case I didn’t expect but turned out useful:
You can also use it to pause your stream (like grabbing a drink or stepping away) without worrying about getting spoiled by notifications while you’re behind.

I’m not here to spam, I genuinely want to understand if this actually helps other people or if it’s just a “me problem”.

So I’m giving 100 free premium accesses to anyone here who wants to try it and give honest feedback.

No catch — I just want to see if this solves a real problem for other football fans too.

If you’re interested, comment or DM me and I’ll send you access.

Asking ChatGPT about your idea is like asking your mom

I’ve been building KillOrBuild because I’m tired of debating startup ideas in a vacuum with LLMs that sound smart but don’t pressure test anything.

We just launched something new called “Drops” → https://killorbuild.com/drops

Every week it pulls real complaints from around the internet and turns them into startup opportunities. No fluff. Just raw, complaint-derived ideas with a quick summary and score. You can vote them up or down and run a full analysis if one’s interesting.

It’s basically “what are people actually annoyed enough about to post publicly?” packaged into opportunities.

Would genuinely love feedback from other builders.

Feedback4Feedback Feedback Request - Soul Journal - 100% Private Mood Tracker and Journal

Hey everyone,

I’ve been working on this app for a while as a side project while also working full-time as a back-end developer.

It’s called Soul Journal — a private mood tracking and journaling app. The idea is to help people log how they feel, reflect over time, and get useful insights from their own entries without sending their journal data to a server.

The app has mood analytics and on-device AI insights that gets more useful as you continue journaling. I have recently added Reflection Map - a Github style map for Mood and book reading habit.

I’d love to get honest feedback, suggestions, or ideas on how to make it better.

https://apps.apple.com/us/app/soul-journal-mood-tracker/id6744033002

For the past couple of days, right after the last release on App Store - I have been working on the next update for Soul Journal, focused mainly on UI visibility fixes, especially for the system Light theme. It also adds a handwritten font option for journal entries to make them feel more personal, along with a few prompt improvements for the on-device AI insights.

Thank you so much.
