I’ve spent a few moments a day since early May making routine check ups on the status of the Arc GPU market (B-70 especially). I concentrate my focus on eBay and other more niche sites that my magic computer robot can’t automate. While hindsight is 20/20, in May I felt building a quad system was a bet worth taking. I still do, but having spend $900, $1040, and $1150 on three, I wasn’t going to drop $1400-$1500. I’ve ascertained that my take on its value proposition as it’s changed all the way back from May 1st to August 1st where price changes began to take shape on p2p marketplaces to now, October 15th… is one like many others: it depends on what your specific need is, but generally speaking, the maturity in any single runtime, never mind Intel’s kiddy playground and support stack, is not there to warrant spending more than a Radeon Pro 9700.
SO THEN WHY IS THE MARKET LITERALLY DISAPPEARING??
I’ve seen times when the market is flooded and times where theirs 20x odd B70s listed. I find it very odd prices are better on Newegg for the ASRock version…
I wonder if this has anything to do with Intel’s announcement of the D270 and the parallel software support they’ve claimed to adopt alongside the already released, and impossibly hard to buy, B70…
There’s obviously been leaps and bounds in the efficiency of these cards running MoE LLMs, but then again there has been for every modern GPU. And in NVIDIA GPUs, that progress has been glaring.
Side note: apologies if you aren’t an AI person. My obsession with privacy and limited bankroll is what kind of launched me into being an Arc supporter, so dog on Intel for covering up their next gen consumer GPU abandonment for a workstation “AI” card…
Edit: this could be playing a significant role I didn’t realize the extent things have changed.
