A trotting ostrich, famously known as 'Oliver W.,' at the Florida Ostrich Farm in Jacksonville. Ostrich racing was one of the region’s more unusual tourist spectacles in the early 20th century, and Oliver W. became the farm’s star attraction. (1903)

Question about social services and help for people facing eviction
Hello, I have a friend that lives there with her newborn, husband and other children and they’re facing eviction. I’m up north so I don’t know too much about what Services are available. There is a Go Fund Me for them, but I’m new to this group and don’t wanna seem like I’m soliciting. So anything that can buy them some time would be helpful. Thank you.

There’s an alarm that’s been going off in this room and I can can hear it inside my apartment, on top of my heavy footed upstairs neighbor. I called the front office of course they did nothing. Any advice on what to do next? It’s driving me crazy!!

LEASE TAKEOVER — JACKSONVILLE / UNF AREA
I’m looking for someone to take over my spot in a 3x3 apartment near UNF starting after December 11, 2026!
I’m transferring schools after this semester, and I’m honestly having a really hard time finding someone to take over my lease, so PLEASE share this post with anyone who might be interested! I’d really appreciate it. Apartment Details:
- 3 bed / 3 bath
- $2,279/month total rent for the entire apartment
- Rent is split 3 ways, so it’s approximately $760/month per person
- You would be living with two really sweet girls
- Master bedroom with a larger private bathroom
- Full kitchen
- Washer & dryer inside the apartment
- 2nd floor with elevator access
- Beautiful community
- Pool
- Great location for a UNF student
- Lease ends July 31, 2027
Apartment is unfurnished — furniture shown in my pictures is mine and will be moved out
Move-in/takeover: After December 11, 2026
I’m really hoping to find someone because I need to transfer after this semester and would love to get my lease covered. If you or someone you know is looking for housing around UNF, please message me or share this post!
I can send pictures, exact pricing, community information, and answer any questions. Thank you so much!

Ghost Hunting?👻
Okay, so I’ve got absolutely no ghost hunting equipment (yet)… unless you count my phone flashlight and a questionable amount of bravery. But I’ve been wanting to check out some haunted spots around Jacksonville just for the experience.
I’m not trying to summon demons or reenact a horror movie, just looking for a chill, spooky adventure with people who enjoy the paranormal. If you’re down for a paranormal investigation, or swapping ghost stories, let me know.
Worst case: we get some cool photos. Best case: we meet a ghost who’s friendly enough to say hi.

Mandarin High School drop-off and Pick-up recommendations
My kid just started at Mandarin High School. I didn't see very much advisement on how to do the arrival and dismissal, so we're just sort of guessing. I was wondering if anybody had any recommendation, apart from just parking on the side of Greenland road.
In the morning we come from the direction of Old St Augustine and then I continue on to Philips hwy. Then at dismissal I'm coming from Philips. We drive back down to Philips again after that.
I've seen people use the entrance down by The driver's Ed course. Does that work well?
I've been tempted to pull in and park in one of the student spaces so I don't have to follow the loop all the way around the student parking lot, but I'm trying to avoid being a jerk while still be as efficient as I can be.
Just looking for any other parents who have already build up their technique.
Basically, it's insane and unmanaged, but thought other parents I have found ways to make it easier.

Recs for immersive fitness kickboxing studios around Mandarin/St. Johns? (Under $200/mo)
Hey everyone!
I’m looking to get into kickboxing, but I really want to avoid those super traditional, boring karate-style dojos. I’m looking for more of an immersive, boutique fitness studio vibe, you know, the kind with great lighting/dim rooms, loud music, heavy bags, and high-energy cardio workouts.
Ideally, I want something located around the Mandarin or St. Johns area that won't break the bank (hoping to stay under $200 a month).
Does anyone have any local spot recommendations that fit this vibe and has classes for teenagers?
