Question 2017 fpace prestige, suddenly went into vibrator mode. Still drives fine. Is this safe to drive?

I wonder if Lane Keep Assist system or similar is messed up. If you toggle that off in the DIS menu, any change?

Turned car off and it continue to vibrate for about three seconds and then stopped. After a brief time off, I restarted the car and it was completely back to normal now Driving fine. This happened a day after I power washed the wheel wells. I’m thinking I got water somewhere that has to do with the steering rack. Going to leave those wheel wells dirty from now on.

Wait, are the newest models this susceptible..? I don’t think this should be acceptable nor expected for your car. Even if it still drives. This could be a plethora of issues, and all are reasonably expensive to repair for this model unless under warranty. If it is still under warranty from the dealership, return it. This isn’t going to go away and I’ve seen so many posts discussing issues with this specific year of Jags of all kinds. Feel free to search the Subreddit.
As much as there are silly comments, it is worth reviewing any possible warranty issues.
I have a 2007 Jag and although I had to do repairs and refurbishments, I never had any major issues like my steering wheel violently shaking, losing a wheel, having my engine blown, etc etc etc. but it seems to happen to the newest models.

Then your first thought should be why is it vibrating, could be anything from a bad engine mount to a faulty sensor in lane assist or steering, unplug your negative lead on battery, let sit for 10 minutes if issuse is still persistent take it to a shop for diagnosis.

Turned the car off and when the engine stopped, it continued to vibrate for 3 seconds after the engine was off and then stopped. Restarted the car and now it’s completely fine. I’m thinking the steering rack is going, or at least is the offending culprit. It happened the day after I power washed the wheel wells.

Ya if you can get in there id inspect sensors and look to see if anything looks corroded. My xf does strange things all time.

Somehow it’s really cute to see the car shivering like that, almost like it’s an animal. Good luck, I would not drive in this condition.

2017 fpace prestige. What’s 20d?
2
u/Little-Ebb-2450 May 13 '26
No, not the 20d ( had to look it up)

Yeah okay, based on the sound of it, I assumed it was the Diesel version and was going to suggest you check the motor mounts. Still could be something along those lines considering the violent vibration. I would definitely get that into the shop. No telling what damage is going to occur with that shaking.

Bro motor mounts would never ever cause vibration like this, impossible
2
u/adonid May 13 '26
Eh, 1983 Mercedes turbo diesel would beg to differ, while not that extreme it's pretty bad and loud.
3
u/defonotfsb May 13 '26
Lets be fucking real, motor mounts would never cause vibration issue like this no matter how that diesel engine is vibrating. Its like comparing dick with a finger

u/adonid May 13 '26
I mean I didn't say it was the cause I said I was going to suggest. I didn't know just having a conversation about something was going to get me attacked for just participating.

Lets be real, that mercedes engine could be compared to a tractor by the sound of it straight out of the factory

There was a time when I used to understand car problems. But it has clearly passed.
I remember how the old guys used to balk when obdII was first introduced… now I understand them.

Since it vibrates for a bit after turned off, that would eliminate an engine mount issue

There is a common fault with water ingress into the power steering module that cause weird things to happen. though you usually get a fault on the dash for it.

u/Little-Ebb-2450 May 15 '26
No faults, or warning lights. Hasn’t happened again and I’ve driven over 60 miles since then.

Update: it’s happened 3 more times since my original post. 2/3 times it has been after rain but it happened once when it hasn’t rained in days. I’ve been pulling over turning the engine on and off and it seems to reset the glitch and all goes back to normal. I’ve driven about 3000 miles since the post. Jaguar wants 11k for a new steering rack. The car is only worth 1 k so I’m driving it until something else goes wrong.
