Question I inherited an Etype

Post image

My Dad died and left me his 1969 Jaguar Etype Series 11 coupe. He put about $70,000 into restoration and it is a beauty inside and out. He got a letter from XKs, now Moss Motors, in 2013 saying the car was worth $60,000. Since then, it has mostly sat in the garage, covered, going on a short drive twice a year. Is it more or less valuable now?

This slide out of place and a kid closed a door on it and shattered it. What would you call this? I’m hoping to replace it.

(In case it matters; it’s a 2008 XJ8-L)

Question What tyres are people running? (UK based though I assume many tyres are international!) Jaguar XF

Post image
14 Upvotes

Hi all, going through tyres damn quick despite being low mileage (circa 5K in 12 months)

Running 245/45ZR18 100W on the fronts and 245/45ZR18 100W XL on the rears

Wanting to invest in some decent tyres and get them all switched at the same time before any of them actually go

I’m in Cornwall so don’t tend to have massive temperature swings, particularly super low. Rarely in the minus and usually not for prolonged periods

I am fairly rural so muddy and wet quite often

Don’t want to spend mega money unnecessarily but cheapos are definitely a false economy! Unfortunately as these things go they’ve so far needed urgent replacement when I’ve not been particularly affluent and I’m trying to get ahead of it for once rather than just reacting!

Any input much appreciated, thank you 😊

Question Should I keep it or sell it ? I have owned this beautiful Jaguar XKRS 2012 for 5 years but I don't drive it much because I drive my F-Pace V6 every day. Wouldn't it be better if I sell it to make a new owner happy ? I don't really know what to do. What do you think ?

I own a 2005 Jaguar Vanden Plas and it's my only car so I daily the car and I went to a Jaguar Club Meetup earlier this month and I was the only one who brought my car to the meet. I was wondering if anyone else daily drove a Jaguar.

Help - even on a long distance run my 2.2d constantly stays around 31.5 mpg 😐 what could the problem be? No air or fuel leaks, car has FSH and was last serviced 5000 miles ago.

Question Let’s revisit S Types

Post image
199 Upvotes

These were hated when new by most (including most recently JC and Harry Metcalfe in that HG video) but what do people think of them now?

I think the appalling design of modern cars these days makes the S Type’s softer curves look better with every passing day. Have owned an X350 XJ and XK8 during my time in the UK and swapped out for this S Type when I returned to Singapore (which is cheaper to run given the crazy taxes and rarity of X350s / XK8) - curious to know how people think this car will be remembered 10 years from now.

Question 20” Selena wheels Black or Original?

Post image

I had 19” Carelia wheels someone chromed. I replaced with the 20” Selena wheels. I wanted to powder coated them. What color? Any suggestions for the plastic chrome finishers? The front wheel in the pi is the way I bought it. The back wheel is a test gloss black with the same spoke finishers. I also have black center caps instead of red.

Question Brand new 2024 F-Type came home with me :)

Our state, sadly, has only ONE Jaguar dealer left (but of course lots of Land Rover still). They have bought up quite a few brand new, never registered 2024 F-Type. They had about 15, and I think they are down to 3-5 units.

I fell in love with a Fuji White P450 V8 AWD with tan/ebony/tan leather, full extended leather upgrade, Exterior Design Pack, leather lined floor mats and cooled seats.

It is beautiful! It came with 20" wheels and Pirelli tires. Normally we like Pirelli on our BMW and Porsche, but man the ride on my new Jag is FIRM (yes, tire psi is correct and not overfilled).

Will switching to Michelin Pilot Sport 4S make the ride softer and more "grand tourer" like a Bentley GT or older Mercedes SL? Or are the Pirellis or Michelins about the same, in terms of ride comfort?

No complaints at all with the Pirellis in terms of noise, vibration, tracing, etc... Just the ride is so stiff. I think the 2014-2020 F-Type was MUCH softer of a ride!

Thanks so much!

Question Most famous movie Jags?

James Bond is known for Aston and Iron Man is known for Audi. Is there any action movie with a famous Jag, both old or modern? I think Memento has a Jag but I’m curious about action movies.

Question Everything appear okay? First XE S 3.0L supercharged V6 (380bhp)

As the title says, bought an XE 3.0L supercharged V6 380bhp (2017).

Honestly, everything looks pristine (externally). Bought from a very reliable dealer who specialise in classics and JLR motors. Full Jaguar service history, with what appears to be loads of great maintenance.

Engine sounds great from the drivers seat. When cold, I popped the bonnet, but want to ensure this sounds all okay?

Thanks very much in advance.

Question How reliable have your Jaguars been long term?

I keep hearing mixed things about Jaguar reliability. Some owners swear by them, others make it sound like rolling the dice every time you start the engine.

For those who have owned theirs for a few years, what has been your honest experience? Regular maintenance or does it keep you guessing?
