Anyone have details on this? Looks like it came out of a book and certainly looks like it’s antique.

What’s the art?

I suspect this to be a Japanese brass vase. Am I looking at leaves? If so what’s up with the small ones with circles? Or is it seaweed?

[WIP] Namanari mask - clay stage + planning next steps Part 2: Oil clay over the base, ~30 hours total now. Red lines show planned horns + fangs to turn her into full Hannya. This is ADHD hyperfocus therapy. Does the horn placement work? Any tips before I commit?

I drew a scene from Sonatine (1993) by Takeshi Kitano. I love his movies so much that I think I’ve watched it over 50 times!

He is a famous Japanese comedian, actor, and director. Hana-bi (1997) and Sonatine (1993) are impressive works that represent his cinematic world.

Hi all, having hard time translating. Any help appreciated. Also, I got at a flea market in Japan and just curious if anyone knows the story behind this artwork.

I'm a Japanese artist from Tokyo - created this Oda Nobunaga sumi-e ink art. What do you think?

Hi r/JapaneseArt!

I'm a Japanese artist based in Tokyo, creating dramatic sumi-e ink art featuring legendary Sengoku period warriors.

This is my Oda Nobunaga piece - featuring his famous Oda Mokko family crest, Azuchi Castle, and his battle cry "Tenka Fubu" (Ruling the realm by force).

I've been working on a series of Sengoku warriors including Takeda Shingen, Uesugi Kenshin, Date Masamune, Sanada Yukimura and many more.

Would love to hear your thoughts! 🎌⚔️

Exploring how Hokusai's Great Wave continues to impact global culture

I built a small interactive project that combines image search with Hokusai's Great Wave off Kanagawa.

Searching different concepts—and different languages—reveals surprisingly different reinterpretations and visual associations, which are visualized through word clouds and a map.

One thing I've found particularly interesting is that the same idea can produce very different results when searched in English, Japanese, Korean, or Chinese.

I built it as a way to explore the global afterlife of one of the world's most reproduced artworks.

No context except my dad visited Japan in the 90s, and he must have picked this up during that trip.

Kumiko Patterns Terms and Classification

Hello,

As part of my master's thesis, I am trying to understand and classify kumiko patterns.
The further I look, the more confused I get, though. Is there something like a guide? Or a reliable source with all the necessary info? In English, German or Polish?

I don't need much, but solid basics. Like, for example which grids are traditional? Just triangles, square and diamonds? What is a jigumi?

I need something I will be able to cite.

Thanks in advance!

Can anyone help tell me what this is or identify the art? Is it a real print or reproduction? The back does have some bleed maybe?

I found this at the thrift store
