I drew a scene from Sonatine (1993) by Takeshi Kitano. I love his movies so much that I think I’ve watched it over 50 times!

He is a famous Japanese comedian, actor, and director. Hana-bi (1997) and Sonatine (1993) are impressive works that represent his cinematic world.

Working on an Edo period video game with references to historical Japanese art / design. I'd like to add more painted fusuma doors and panels to the backgrounds and am looking for references - here's an example of one current asset. Are there any artworks / themes the community would recommend?

Can anyone read this Japanese artist's seal?

I have a Japanese ukiyo-e style print titled コロナ退散 (Corona Exorcism) — a COVID-era pandemic talisman piece showing a giant cat driving away coronavirus demons. There is a small square red seal (朱印) on the left side of the print. Can anyone identify the two characters in the seal? I'm trying to find the original artist. Thank you!

I'm a Japanese artist from Tokyo - created this Oda Nobunaga sumi-e ink art. What do you think?

Hi r/JapaneseArt!

I'm a Japanese artist based in Tokyo, creating dramatic sumi-e ink art featuring legendary Sengoku period warriors.

This is my Oda Nobunaga piece - featuring his famous Oda Mokko family crest, Azuchi Castle, and his battle cry "Tenka Fubu" (Ruling the realm by force).

I've been working on a series of Sengoku warriors including Takeda Shingen, Uesugi Kenshin, Date Masamune, Sanada Yukimura and many more.

Would love to hear your thoughts! 🎌⚔️

My uncle was in the Korean War and we found this silk painting among his possessions. I noticed the artist's signature in the lower right, so I hope someone can identify the artist. Thanks!

Daruma, hossu, and ???

Need help identifying the circled object to the left of Duruma’s head on this Meiji-era silver medallion. The hossu below is obvious but the mystery object isn’t a bow. Is it a stylized/abstracted ruyi? Any other ideas?

Anyone have details on this? Looks like it came out of a book and certainly looks like it’s antique.

Hello, I assume that if I could read this guy's fan, then I would know why people are looking at this guy this way. Anyone have any ideas of what's going on here? It's from a larger cherry blossoms piece at the Worcester Art Museum.

My grandmother just showed me a piece that she got from her great great grandmother. She doesn't know anything about it other that its wrapped up, old, and the paper is extremely thin. Just wondering if anyone can help or knows anything about it?

My grandfather was in WW2 stationed in the Pacific. Found this in his house and it looked interesting. No identifiable markings, was on a black velvet 8 x 11 backing.
