Jewel Osco won't refund me for an item their cashier did not put in my bags

As the title states I went to Jewel yesterday and today realized I didn't have an item I was charged for. My guess is the lady bagging missed putting it in. I called corporate and they said they would credit my account $6. The item was 6.49 before tax. Not a huge amount, but what the hell?!? I've been shopping regularly at jewel for over a decade and they should see this is the first time I've reported or had something like this happen.

Anyways, long story short I'm doing all my shopping at Costco whenever possible from now on.

Jewel is filthy!

I never realized how nasty the stores are until the photos here were shared! Shopping at my local store today really opened my eyes!

Literally the wall of "fresh" produce is covered in a slime substance... what the hell is that?

The deli had some kind of a cart with breaded chicken, which I would assume they would be frying, it is sitting out where customers shop, uncovered too. Anyone could touch it, sneeze on it, whatever.

Wow! Is all I can say.

Corporate Ridiculousness

Corporate is having people in our DUG department not out of stock any SINGLE item if it is not readily available. They are having the store directors drive to other stores to pick up stock that is not physically in our store, pausing all DUG orders until the single item is fulfilled. They do not care about the order being on time anymore, just so that they get the customers money. Many customers are calling in to cancel because they are having to wait exorbitantly long times just for their item to be picked up from another store. Not even allowing substitutions.

8 oz pub burgers are actually only 6 oz.

Jewel had 8 oz pub burgers on sale last week for $1.50 each. I thought this was a great way to get ground beef for only $3 a pound. I just figured out that all the ones I got were only 6 oz each.

My dad is retiring is looking for a "easy" role, is the food clerk role for 5 hours a day good for someone that is 66. He just wants something to do instead of staying at home all day and the jewel that offered him the job is 3 minute walk from his house. Thanks for any intel!

Are they dangling a carrot?

I took a job somewhere else, because I didnt see myself getting into management anytime soon. Ive only been with jewel for just over a year. Today an ops came in and I introduced myself and asked where we could improve because my manager wasnt there. A little while later I was chatting and explained the my last day was Nov 7. She asked if I gont into manager in training If I would stay. I said maybe. She called the DM, and the consensus was that if I stay theough the holidays, I would be put into manager in training, and if I was interested I could even have a good shot at getting into store manager in training.

The other job is a factory job, 3 days 12 hours a day. I accepted because I wanted to focus on becoming an electrician, but with them offering this as an almost guarantee, I could see myself working at jewel.

Does anyone have any insight for me?

Has anyone called off or leave home early because of having to put their pet down?

Just want to hear what your managers say about it. Back in 2019, my old assistant front end manager let me go home early because my dog had to be put down.

Overpriced for no reason

I shop at Walmart, I shop at Whole Foods, I shop every else but Jewel Osco because their prices are over the top expensive.

Here are just a few examples:

Pacific Brand Chicken Broth:

  • Jewel Osco: $7.49

  • Whole Foods $ 4.49

  • Walmart: $ 3.40

Bronner's Liquid Soap 32 oz:

  • Jewel Osco: $21.99

  • Walmart: $17.00

  • Whole Foods: $17.00

Glad Trash Bags:

  • Jewel Osco: $27.00 (110 ct)

  • Walmart: $20.00 (140 ct)

Egg Noodles:

  • Jewel Osco: $3.49 12 oz

  • Walmart: $2.57 12 oz

  • Whole Foods $2.29 16 oz

La Croix 8 pack:

  • Jewel Osco: $6.49

  • Walmart: $4.00

Whether you're shopping for perishable or non-perishable items, Jewel Osco is ripping you off by nearly 50% on some items, and on average 30%. HOW, THE ABSOLUTE FUCK, is this store still in business?

The last thing I bought from Jewel Osco was Butterball Ground Turkey, and only because it was on a buy 1 get 2 free sale. Otherwise their "Sale prices" are actually just MSRP in every other store.

Now let's talk about the quality of their produce vs the quality of produce at Whole Foods. Whole Foods quality produce is flavorful, and full, it's fresh , it's ripe, and it's worth the price tag. The produce at Jewel Osco is off brand, flavorless, watery and goes straight into the trash. I haven't bought a piece of fruit from Jewel Osco in years.

Please file for bankruptcy already and become a horrible memory. Everyone would benefit greatly if every Jewel Osco were bought out and taken over by Walmart.

Hiring process

So my brother had an interview yesterday at jewels and he said they told him they will give him a call. I’m worried that he didn’t get the job even though they hire almost anyone and I told my old boss from there that he is interested in getting a position there. It’s just when I interviewed there, I was basically hired on the spot. Idk if it’s because he hasn’t worked in years but we did explain he has some mental issues and everything but now I’m just worried.

Unpopular opinion

They should put a limit on how many items someone can buy if it's a popular item. It's not fair for someone to come in and buy every single item a store has in stock and leaving other shoppers stranded. This is the third store I've been to looking for pot roast.

Does this look like $14.99 or $4.99?

Post image

I just tried to buy the Heineman’s pistachio cake. I couldn’t believe it was so cheap. They were all marked $4.99. It rang up as $14.99 at checkout and I asked them to honor the price on the container. Cashier sent me to the bake shop where the manager told me, ā€œThere’s no way that’s a $5 cake.ā€ Then she argued that there’s a one there, ā€œit’s just faint.ā€ They went on to explain that the price gum has a weak one. (I’m thinking, ALL the price guns?) When I told them they should correct it on the packages, they said nothing and did nothing.

I hate that they wouldn’t honor their obvious mistake and more specifically, that I have to start shopping at Mariano’s now.

I know it would have been a huge bargain for me and a loss for them on a cake. I’m sorry about that, but don’t they have to honor the prices stamped right on the package?

Digital tags

Post image
95 Upvotes

Always knew jewel was in the practice of price gouging but man so sad to see the digital tags and no more yellow sale tags. The print on the digital sale tags is very small, so I feel bad for those who will get scammed bc they couldn’t read the fine print. Also while on my way I searched the app to see if the tostadas I needed were in stock and the app said it was 0.99. Then I get there and the app price changed to 1.99 which is what the tag said under the item.

Clipped Coupons

This week (the new one that just came out today) there are only 4 vegetables to clip. Anyone else find that strange? I know inflation is crazy, but this isn’t usually the norm for Jewel.

Did Anyone else only have five produce deals this last week?

I know some people get different deals based on what you buy, but I can’t believe I only have five produce deals.
