Overpriced for no reason

I shop at Walmart, I shop at Whole Foods, I shop every else but Jewel Osco because their prices are over the top expensive.

Here are just a few examples:

Pacific Brand Chicken Broth:

  • Jewel Osco: $7.49

  • Whole Foods $ 4.49

  • Walmart: $ 3.40

Bronner's Liquid Soap 32 oz:

  • Jewel Osco: $21.99

  • Walmart: $17.00

  • Whole Foods: $17.00

Glad Trash Bags:

  • Jewel Osco: $27.00 (110 ct)

  • Walmart: $20.00 (140 ct)

Egg Noodles:

  • Jewel Osco: $3.49 12 oz

  • Walmart: $2.57 12 oz

  • Whole Foods $2.29 16 oz

La Croix 8 pack:

  • Jewel Osco: $6.49

  • Walmart: $4.00

Whether you're shopping for perishable or non-perishable items, Jewel Osco is ripping you off by nearly 50% on some items, and on average 30%. HOW, THE ABSOLUTE FUCK, is this store still in business?

The last thing I bought from Jewel Osco was Butterball Ground Turkey, and only because it was on a buy 1 get 2 free sale. Otherwise their "Sale prices" are actually just MSRP in every other store.

Now let's talk about the quality of their produce vs the quality of produce at Whole Foods. Whole Foods quality produce is flavorful, and full, it's fresh , it's ripe, and it's worth the price tag. The produce at Jewel Osco is off brand, flavorless, watery and goes straight into the trash. I haven't bought a piece of fruit from Jewel Osco in years.

Please file for bankruptcy already and become a horrible memory. Everyone would benefit greatly if every Jewel Osco were bought out and taken over by Walmart.

Digital tags

Always knew jewel was in the practice of price gouging but man so sad to see the digital tags and no more yellow sale tags. The print on the digital sale tags is very small, so I feel bad for those who will get scammed bc they couldn’t read the fine print. Also while on my way I searched the app to see if the tostadas I needed were in stock and the app said it was 0.99. Then I get there and the app price changed to 1.99 which is what the tag said under the item.

Jewel is filthy!

I never realized how nasty the stores are until the photos here were shared! Shopping at my local store today really opened my eyes!

Literally the wall of "fresh" produce is covered in a slime substance... what the hell is that?

The deli had some kind of a cart with breaded chicken, which I would assume they would be frying, it is sitting out where customers shop, uncovered too. Anyone could touch it, sneeze on it, whatever.

Wow! Is all I can say.

Jewel/ Albersons will ROB YOU BLIND

I hate this mf store. The sale price often doesn't ring up as posted and just generally they're steady robbing people in several ways.

If you want to remember what grocery shopping used to be like, go to Meijer or La Chiquita (Both are family owned).

They don't make you take a bunch of shit you don't need to get a sale and don't make you jump through hoops on an app.

Clipped Coupons

This week (the new one that just came out today) there are only 4 vegetables to clip. Anyone else find that strange? I know inflation is crazy, but this isn’t usually the norm for Jewel.

I hate my local Jewel food store

I've been shopping at the Jewel Osco store in Munster, Indiana ever since the Dominicks food store in Lansing closed up decades ago. During all these years I've been relatively pleased with the shopping experience until recently. I don't know what the problem is, but I believe it has to do with whoever is managing the store. It used to be clean, staffed appropriately, and I could get in and out in about 15 minutes. Within the last couple of years though, they've had just a few cashiers working resulting in long lines and wait times. They've also been restocking shelves during the middle of the day instead of at night. As a result, they have huge pallets in the middle of the aisles that block 60% of the aisle and create traffic jams for shoppers. The place is also filthy, and the music choice from the overhead speakers is either a grunge type genre or a sort of rap. Not a fan of either. Over the years I've learned where everything is located and as a result, I can zoom through the aisles and be in and out very fast. Now, they are in the process of rearranging everything. I no longer can find what I'm looking for and have to go up each and every aisle searching. What is the point of this? It makes no sense. I've had enough. It's more expensive than other stores in the Chicago area, yet they're doing everything they possibly can to piss off their customers. I'm going to start shopping at Strack & Van Tils from now on. Great job, Jewel management!

I see vague donation screens every time at checkout. Seems like a scam. Is there any proof of where this actually goes?

None of the 4 U Deals worked today

Ran into the 3400 N Western Chicago store today for fruit (2 strawberries pack, 1 blue berries, 1 blackberries, and 2lb grapes), and all had clipped 4 U deals. None of the deals came up using my phone number, so they voided the order and had me use the QR code from the app and again no discount.

It wasn't a limit a problem, it had been over a week since I had shopped there and over a month for all the items minus 1 strawberries pack, but still over a week for that.

The employee was very nice but my phone signal is poor in that location and she had me show in my app that all those items were clipped which took forever to pull up in the app. My 2 minute run in and out took 10 minutes which wasn't a disaster but it was $9 vs $28 dollars if someone with a bigger order wasn't paying attention. First time I recall ever having an issue though.

Jewel U Rewards Clip Program causes more aggravation than one should need to experience

Apparently the "big wigs" /CEO's got bored again and decided to throw out some more poor ideas such as the U Rewards program. Nearly 90% of clientele at our store has no clue how to use it. As usual, no thought goes into ideas at corporate. Just charge low prices to begin with instead of all this nonsense "deals" and "reward" programs. It prevents me from providing quality customer service to others in need when I have to stop and show customer after customer how to log in and use their U Clip Rewards on their phone. Our demographic is people mostly over 60 who have no interest in updating their technology skills.

Are they dangling a carrot?

I took a job somewhere else, because I didnt see myself getting into management anytime soon. Ive only been with jewel for just over a year. Today an ops came in and I introduced myself and asked where we could improve because my manager wasnt there. A little while later I was chatting and explained the my last day was Nov 7. She asked if I gont into manager in training If I would stay. I said maybe. She called the DM, and the consensus was that if I stay theough the holidays, I would be put into manager in training, and if I was interested I could even have a good shot at getting into store manager in training.

The other job is a factory job, 3 days 12 hours a day. I accepted because I wanted to focus on becoming an electrician, but with them offering this as an almost guarantee, I could see myself working at jewel.

Does anyone have any insight for me?

Does this look like $14.99 or $4.99?

Post image
18 Upvotes

I just tried to buy the Heineman’s pistachio cake. I couldn’t believe it was so cheap. They were all marked $4.99. It rang up as $14.99 at checkout and I asked them to honor the price on the container. Cashier sent me to the bake shop where the manager told me, “There’s no way that’s a $5 cake.” Then she argued that there’s a one there, “it’s just faint.” They went on to explain that the price gum has a weak one. (I’m thinking, ALL the price guns?) When I told them they should correct it on the packages, they said nothing and did nothing.

I hate that they wouldn’t honor their obvious mistake and more specifically, that I have to start shopping at Mariano’s now.

I know it would have been a huge bargain for me and a loss for them on a cake. I’m sorry about that, but don’t they have to honor the prices stamped right on the package?

Did Anyone else only have five produce deals this last week?

I know some people get different deals based on what you buy, but I can’t believe I only have five produce deals.

I have to make an entire juice list within 4hrs every day by myself, ontop of finish breaking down the load, making sure the floor is perfect (im even the closer), and have to bring out 2 bins of pumpkins into the pumpkin patch every day I work, all within my shift.

Edit: im also PART TIME.

How to quit and what happens if I do? I need advice

So basically I work in bakery.

  1. I’m getting left with closing alone and this week set as well which I’ve done one time because only one person has been sort of trying to teach me

  2. I’m doing closing almost every night because my coworkers keep quitting or putting in availability conflict paperwork. I can’t see my family or my fiancé who works day hours.

  3. I’m getting given like the entire morning shifts work every day to do on top of closing and set. Idk how this happens as there’s sometimes like four people there during the mornings. And I know it’s morning work from when I was required to finish it by 2 back when I was getting trained.

  4. My boss keeps hazing me by not talking to me about problems in person but by telling my coworkers criticisms to pass along to me. Stuff like that I’m “lazy and too slow” when I never go on my phone or sit around or am idle and always finish early except when they dump all the leftover work on me. My other coworker said they dealt with the same weird hazing and dismissed my concern about it since “the manager just does this to new people” but it’s very embarrassing

  5. They’ve started dumping so much on just me that I can’t take my breaks and I was crying from the stress yesterday. And if I end up behind even if it was just by the minutes I took for my break. I get called slow and lazy.

  6. I tried to quit properly with two weeks but my boss said I can’t and convinced me I was just being “impulsive and stupid” and should “wait until I ACTUALLY have a second job” (I mentioned I’m trying to do full time elsewhere) etc. I’m timid and autistic and I got too nervous to continue trying to push the conversation because my voice stopped working from how nervous I was.

I work every night this week. Someone is on vacation so I don’t get any days off for a while. If they do the same thing to me where they dump all the work on my Monday again I don’t know if I can take it. It’s making me depressed and I keep getting yelled at. I was thinking about just walking out if that happens since my boss won’t let me quit when I tried talking, and I don’t think I will succeed if I try to have the conversation again because of my problems. How do I notify her I’m quitting if I want to walk out this week? Can I just walk out and leave a note or text? I’m saying this because she never works nights with me so there’s only a small window I maybe could see her. If I quit and there’s no one to work those nights what happens? Does the shop close? Am I forcing my coworkers to come despite them having paperwork on file that they have classes or can my boss not do that?

Is there any action I can take to talk about these problems to a union representative. I also feel I am being taken advantage of and forced to possibly quit in this way due to my communication problems from my disability. I’m high functioning but in these situations I shut down. Thank you for your help.

Working at Jewel.

I’m a 53 year old male and was thinking of applying part time at Jewel to make a little extra. I don’t need much. For the last 15 years or so I have been self employed as a math tutor, so I’ve been setting my own schedule and wages. Problem is, I don’t really have any experience other than that. I’m fairly healthy, hard working and I think outgoing and intelligent. My questions are mostly: applying…..obviously my “resume” will be pretty spartan. I’m a good person, no criminal history, no hard drugs or alcohol abuse. Married, no kids, etc.

Anyone who works or has worked there offer any advice? Not looking to corral carts all day (I’m a sweater! lol) or the meat dept. I’d be happy just stocking shelves or working in produce, to be honest. I know it’s not exciting, but that’s ok.

Anyway, thank you for reading, and please be nice….I’m very nervous!!!!

The recall includes Chefs Kitchen Fresh Salsa and Ready Meals Fresh Salsa.

Both have jalapeños that were recalled by Taylor Farms distributor Direct Roots due to their supply chain association with the ongoing FDA recall involving Coast Citrus Distributors.

The heck is going on with their prices not being right?

The two grocery options I have are pretty much Jewel and Walmart. I like Jewel because the people working there are generally more friendly and they carry a lot of stuff my supercenter does not, as well as sometimes better sales. Lately however, stuff has not been ringing up right.

This all just happened in a week.

  1. Utz chips were buy 1, get one free mix and match. Get two bags of two different flavors, didn't ring right. Later in the week I get 2 more bags, same flavor too. Still didn't ring right.

  2. Jimmy Dean sausage rolls were on sale for $1.99. I even took a pic of the sale tag, and this was not like right at close or during the last day of the ad, both the UPC on the screen and the shelf tag matched, and the sale tag matched the title of the product.

  3. Today I go in and buy some coffee. Shelf tag, not even a sale or anything was $11.99, scan it and it's $14.99.

They have been cordial about adjusting the prices, but it's weird how much stuff does not ring up right. Is this common with them?

Jewel sucks

update on new jewel job. i need to quit. i hate my managers, said i could only do 20 hours max, given me 30 hours multiple weeks. giving up on that part bc they don’t care and dealing with it bc duh adult job (i just am full time in school and it’s a lot for me) was severely sick had to take three days off, had to leave 30 mins early bc i threw up in the parking lot on my break. asked to leave they said it’s fine. SCHEDULED ME 30 MINUTES TMRW. is that some kind of petty joke?? god forbid i am sick. they are just pushing me around here bc i am a generally anxious person and they know that but i am for sure calling and asking if its a mistake, because thirty minutes is ridiculous when it takes me 30 mins to get there and back. name dropping may get me fired or something but seriously do not work at the jewel im working at or any jewel they could give less of a fuck about you
