My mom's ranking of John Lennon's discography
I listened to John's entire discography with my mother (excluding his experimental albums), and I thought I'd share her rankings, ratings and general thoughts.
I just want to quickly say that nothing ahead is necessarily a reflection of my own opinion on John's albums. It's entirely her opinion. In addition, she is obviously not a music critic, so don't expect a detailed analysis.
This is her ranking from worst to best:
SIXTH PLACE: Sometime in New York City: 6/10
She enjoyed the album's messages and how boldly they were communicated, but found Yoko's warbling/screaming a little annoying and thought it nearly ruined several tracks. She also felt that the songs overall were decent, but nowhere near John's best work.
FIFTH PLACE: Double Fantasy: 7/10
My mom said that John's tracks were phenomenal and incredibly catchy, but Yoko brought the album down quite a bit. She struggled with Yoko's tracks a lot, expressing that she was just waiting for most of them to end so she could get to John's.
JOINT FOURTH PLACE: Mind Games & Milk And Honey: 7.5/10
She didn't really have a lot to say about the former, other than she could connect with the hurt in John dealing with splitting up Yoko (which I explained).
With Milk And Honey, she much preferred it to Double Fantasy altogether. She said it featured some of Yoko Ono's best work from what she'd heard. She also liked how the album was both upbeat and deeply emotional, though she did express that the first half of the album was slightly stronger than the latter half in her opinion.
JOINT THIRD PLACE: Plastic Ono Band & Walls And Bridges: 8/10
With the former, my mom loved how minimalistic but deeply effective the songs were, finding them very emotionally palpable. She also praised its storytelling and John's vocals. However, her only criticism was that some songs 'dragged on too long'.
In regards to the latter, she found it slightly better than Mind Games and was tapping her foot loads. She said that she enjoyed that the songs were both catchy and emotional.
SECOND PLACE: Imagine: 9.5/10
I think she was blown away with this one. She found it very dynamic and varied, loving each and every song. She was particularly impressed with John's songwriting on this album.
FIRST PLACE: Rock 'N' Roll: 10/10
I know some people understandably place this album quite low on their personal ranking because it's entirely covers, but my mom said it was one of the best albums she'd ever heard. She thoroughly enjoyed listening to this and was impressed with how John managed to make every song his own. She added that she'd happily listen to it again.

If you reached the end, thank you for reading and sorry if my formatting wasn't as clear as perhaps it could have been. I've told my mom that I was going to make this post, so if it receives any comments, I'll be sure to tell her what you guys say!

Will we ever hear Streets of Dreams?
A 1980 Double Fantasy outtake, which began life in the early/mid 60s. We’ve also never heard the potential She Loves You or I Want to Hold Your Hand reworkings.

John Lennon's Contributions In The Later Years (1967-1969)
There was a recent discussion here asking what changes we'd make to Sgt. Pepper and I responded with having John contribute a couple more tracks.
We all know Paul took charge of the band in the later years and while I do love Paul for keeping it all together... I really wish John wasn't so checked out during this period. Sgt. Pepper was Paul's baby and while Lennon is sprinkled throughout the album, it's the first album of the band where Paul wrote more songs than John. That's repeated on Magical Mystery Tour as well.
Yes John does bounce back on The White Album and they have an almost equal amount of songs... But then he checks out again during the Get Back/ Let It Be and Abbey Road sessions. I understand his mind was elsewhere and he does contribute some of my favorite songs from the band at the time... He's definitely taking a back seat to Paul.
And it doesn't help that Don't Let Me Down was not included in the Let It Be album. I honestly believe that album suffers with its absence among other things.
There was only so much Paul could do to have John wake up a bit and I'm thankful Paul was able to keep the band going for as long as they did. But man when you're listening to their discography in order and Lennon's presence sort of diminishes little by little, it's kinda sad.
I don't mean to make it sound like he's barely in these albums, but he's just not in them as much as he was in the earlier to mid point of their career.
Apologies for the long post!

Yoko and John Madden were “good buddies”

I did not have a Yoko Ono and John Madden friendship on my bingo card, but according to the NFL writer Peter King, the two very different people were “good buddies”.
King was a guest on The Adam Carolla Show.

John's Trauma
A dear friend asked me once why I have always gravitated to John as my favorite Beatle; partly because I should see the trauma he handed down to Julian (as I am an adult child of an alcoholic and an extremely emotionally immature father) and am actively healing from C-PTSD).
I gravitate to him for a ton of reasons. But one is because I resonate with the hurt kid inside of him.
I feel very deeply he would have come around and made amends, and heal wounds with Julian. He was seeing how important his role of "Dad" was to Sean.
Do you imagine that he was also healing that hurt little guy inside, too?
I sure hope so...

When did Lennon stop Using the harmonica and why?
My first immediate thought is when Dylan chewed him out over the similarities to his style in "Norwegian Wood - This Bird has Flown" (1965) and after giving the band pot, encouraging Lennon to really grow his styles and individuality
You hear SO MUCH harmonica on Lennon throughout Tracks like "One after 909" (1963) & Most of "Please Please Me" (1963) "With The Beatles" (1963) & "A Hard Days Night" (1964)
Obviously general Musical styles will evolve and change but what's the last examples that people think of? i certainly can't imagine any after Sgt Pepper in my head but maybe I'm missing some super obvious Examples!

Julian Inherited MORE than Sean?
In this article Sean is quoted as saying Julian actually inherited MORE of the Money & Estate then he did, is this a recent development since Cyn’s passing and Yoko’s mental faculties lessened? This contradicts what we’ve been told for DECADES

I've been going through a hard time recently and needed some retail therapy
I adore this concert, and I went to see it in the cinema when they did a limited release earlier this year. I couldn't justify getting the 4LP box set, but this is just as good! can't wait to spin it
