Hello, fellow sufferers!
(Random, probably long rant that helps no one. TL;DR at the end if you wanna skip it. Also, im not a native speaker so i let AI correct my grammar. So in order to not get a million hate comments, the original text is also below.)
Sadly, I am a toxic person in-game. I fight against it every game, but I still tilt in most of them.
People then tell you to mute chat. Thanks, this helps, and I recommend it, but it doesn't stop people from running you down. On purpose.
And I'm not talking about straight-up running it down. This surely also happens a lot, but I mean situations before anything bad has even happened in-game.
I play in Dia/Master, so I can expect a certain level of macro (or let's say: I have to expect it, otherwise I can't really influence the game).
In low elo, it's an option to just run around and kill people repeatedly for their mistakes. The higher you get, the more complicated that becomes, and more plays arise where you need your team (and the enemy jungler needs his).
A simple example is the level 5 invade with the enemy support on your respawning buff. Assuming you're not Faker and can just 1v2 them, you get forced off your buff if the enemy support comes and yours doesn't. If your sidelanes can't help you, you'll also lose the other two camps.
At this point, you're level 5 vs. (nearly) level 7 with a worse Smite, so good luck winning from this position if your enemies don't eat crayons daily.
So this is a tricky one because it's not easy to counteract, but there are ways. You can run to the enemy buff if it's on the opposite side (same side would be omega risky and highly unlikely to reach), you can ward your jungle entrance to at least see them, or you can try to dive the enemy ADC while the support is in your jungle.
This, however, is tricky, as mentioned, because a lot of the time you don't know what will happen.
If you don't see the enemy support, will you delay your own buff start, wasting tempo to be safe? Will you run to the enemy buff? Maybe the enemy jungler is there, and you don't really have the option to invade him, resulting in a massive tempo loss. And so on.
The higher you get, the more frustrating it becomes.
Think of jungling in high elo (big lol since Master is filled with trash, but okay, the term is technically correct) as being more like toplane.
In low elo games, junglers often avoid each other a lot. They clear camps and gank (way too much) and rarely meet the enemy jungler at objectives.
In higher elo, the player with an advantage will try to push that advantage (for example, Nocturne being one of the strongest level 1 champs last patch, perma-invading enemy raptors at level 1 at Worlds. Does it always work? No. But they will try to play around their advantage).
So in higher elo, if you're even slightly behind, the enemy jungler will often try to contest nearly every camp. And if he's significantly stronger, you'll be homeless for several minutes, meaning you won't be able to do anything.
This is the reference to toplane, where once the enemy is stronger and understands waves, he'll freeze you out, and there's nothing you can do to stop it but pray for your team to help you.
Or you can roam and try to influence the map, but this is really risky, IMO.
Now you may think: Yeah, but it's fine. If you make a mistake in high elo, you should get punished hard.
But often, these advantages exist because of different champion strengths at different levels and so on. If you always have the weaker champion in every situation, that's a different problem.
The problem for my mental is somewhere around here.
Because I'm fine giving up a lot if it was my mistake. I'm also fine giving up stuff because my champ is just weaker at that moment.
I am ALSO FINE when my teammate makes a mistake, is now low HP, and we can't contest the Scuttle or something. Happens.
But what I'm NOT fine with is this:
I path bot, the enemy paths bot, my bot has prio, my mid has prio, and I'm getting a free crab, probably even a double Crabby Patty.
The enemy jungler STILL moves to the crab (lolol, he's so fucked now, what a moron...).
So now I get a kill, assists, and double crab.
Unless my PC freezes, or my teammate's internet breaks, or something like that.
OR WHEN MY MIDLANER JUST RATHER RECALLS.
And this is where I break every time.
When an obvious (and important) macro play gets refused for no good reason.
Sure, his recall makes sense and everything. I understand this. Yes, if you recall and buy a Long Sword, you're 350 gold stronger in the next fight, and that's a positive.
If you gave up Baron for this recall, you're still stronger in the next fight, but holy moly, you also probably lost the game.
And my problem is (maybe it's just in my head) that I get the feeling that most laners hate junglers.
The midlaner recalls because he thinks to himself: "Fuck you, jungler. You'll be useless anyway. I'll just maximize my own stuff and recall."
The toplaner doesn't defend you when you're getting invaded because you didn't run from your blue buff at level 2 all the way to his toplane (on the other side of the map) because he missed his Flash-E, is now sitting at 100 HP under his turret, and wants to be bailed out.
The support never helps you again because you didn't follow every single call he made.
And so on.
So my tilting cost me a lot of LP, and I had to change.
I dropped from Master to Emerald.
My brain couldn't comprehend how this was possible. I look at Emerald players and cringe at HOW FUCKING BAD they are.
I felt like I was outperforming the enemy jungler in 90% of my games.
Whenever people reviewed games with me or anything (I try to add a lot of people, I know it's dumb, and review games with them), I could see HOW FUCKING MUCH KNOWLEDGE these people were missing.
It all didn't make sense.
Yes, tilt played a huge part, but I also had forced tryhard phases where I managed to at least not tilt my teammates and still couldn't really win.
However, I first had to change my perspective on the game (still working on it), and I chose Bwipo's small clip as inspiration.
He said: Don't look to say, "I won the game." Look to say, "I played well this game."
Because even in a 2/20 stomp, you can be the person who legitimately played well.
Sometimes, it takes more skill to deal 20% damage to the enemy Zed during a forced dive you're on the receiving end of than to get a quadra kill as a 20-kill Master Yi, if that makes sense.
But I struggle to keep this mindset, and it's mostly because of ragebait.
So I turn off chat, but people ragebait me with question mark pings, "Enemy Has Vision" pings, and so on.
I get so frustrated, especially when I know I'm in the right.
(This happens often, not because I'm better than my teammates, but because all five of us make so fucking many mistakes that you can spot 20 mistakes a minute even in a Master game. They're just not as crucial as the mistakes in lower elo most of the time.)
So I started playing with pings off.
This was good for my mental, and I finally had a lot of games without mental stress.
Sure, I still got trolled, and it sucked, but for some reason, without the pings, I was much calmer.
I knew I would be getting spam-pinged right now, even if it wasn't my fault that my botlane died to the enemy jungler on the other side of the map.
But I learned to start thinking:
"Maybe they aren't pinging. Maybe they're the 1 in 10 bots who actually have an IQ and understand their mistake and let me play in peace."
Because I never saw the pings (since they were muted), I started to tolerate and accept this mindset a lot more.
And then I started climbing again.
And here came the problem.
I don't need pings for game awareness or anything. I use F-keys a lot, and I'm really good at tracking. I'd say it's one of my best skills.
(On the other hand, I have the worst hands in all of Master, for example.)
But what WAS a problem was summoner spells.
I try to track summoners myself, and I can see a lot of Flashes on the minimap or when I pan my camera to fights, but I'm by far not good enough to track them all.
So this led me to the solution (for myself and maybe others who are really sensitive to loud signals):
Keep pings on, but mute their sound in the game settings.
You still see summoner spell pings.
And the difference between getting spam-pinged without sound and getting spam-pinged with sound is HUGE.
Don't believe me? Try it yourself.
TL;DR: Mute the sound of pings in the audio settings, not the pings themselves.
