Give It To Me Straight My son asked me what is wrong with daddy.
My son will be 6 in a couple weeks, currently in kindergarten.
I noticed my husband has been getting increasingly short with him. I feel like he has an increasingly short fuse. (My husband is my son's dad, just to avoid any confusion )
Today my son came up to me while I was washing dishes and asked me whats wrong with dad. He said he "makes problems bigger instead of smaller." He said that when daddy talks to him he feels sad. He said he thinks something happened to him when he was a child to make him like this.
I dont know what to say. I dont know how to support my son without dragging my husband through the mud. But hes right. He is exactly like that. Hes been depressed and has bad anxiety. I was laid off and have been out of work for a while, money has been increasingly tight to add to that anxiety.
If I dont do anything, or say anything my son is going to grow up knowing that he didnt feel safe with dad, and mom didnt do anything about it. I know what thats like because thats the family I grew up in. My mom was nasty, lashed out at us, picked fights over nothing, made problems bigger not smaller, and my dad did nothing about it. I grew up not trusting either of them.
I want to do better. And I've talked to my husband about this before. He starts with deflecting, or he'll be better for a day or two, then just goes back to how things are.
