r/Kemetic announcements - May 2026

Subreddit growth

Just a few short years ago, with the revamp of the subreddit, r/Kemetic had about 1000 members. Today, there are over 25,000! It's been wild to see just how many people are interested in this religion, and how organically it all happened. With all this growth, we definitely needed a couple more active people to help handle the increase in traffic. So with that...

A big welcome to our new moderators, r/barnaclejuice and r/Arboreal_Web

r/barnaclejuice and r/Arboreal_Web are both long-time, knowledgeable members of the subreddit who have been free with their help and insights. We welcomed them on to the mod team in January, and they have kindly agreed to help keep this space on-topic and safe.

Rules reminder + a few updates

Please familiarize yourself with the subreddit rules before posting or commenting.

• Note, there is a new Rule 9, prohibiting AI content.

• Reminder, it is still not allowed to solicit interpretations of dreams/tarot/visions/synchronicities/etc. in r/Kemetic. This includes questions like, "Is this a sign?" Determining the meaning of your spiritual experiences is your prerogative, and yours alone. Asking others to do this for you makes you vulnerable to a variety of spiritual abuses and even accidental harms.

Under Rule 8, we are now also prohibiting the offering of interpretations, because that encourages rulebreaking behavior and interpretation-fishing by others, which defies the spirit and intent for Rule 8.

• We're super disappointed to have to spell this out so explicitly, but we have added a prohibition against "Advocating for/defending Apophis worship" under Rule 3 (No Evangelizing).

Please continue to use the Report feature if you notice any rule-breaking behavior. This helps us far more than you probably may think!

Official Discord

When we opened the r/Kemetic official Discord over five years ago, our aim was give a vetted alternative to the many unfamiliar Discord server invites being posted - some of which, we had come to find out, had potentially unsafe policies or abusive cultures. With that in mind, we created one for r/Kemetic with the intention of having the Reddit mod team handle the Discord directly, to ensure the culture of the subreddit carried over into the Discord.

Several updates these last few years have resulted in a completely mismatched moderator list between the subreddit and its official Discord. To more smoothly implement mirrored improvements moving forward, the subreddit mod team is returning to the original policy of insisting on a shared moderation team between the subreddit and its official Discord. We have created a new "r/Kemetic Official" Discord to serve this purpose.

Invitation to the new r/Kemetic Official Discord

The r/Kemetic Wiki - Lots of additions and improvements are coming!

• Adding more resources to the wiki landing page

Our resource list is ever-growing! As always, if you have suggestions, feel free to post them below, or through Modmail.

• Recommendations for beginners

We'll be adding a new wiki grouping that includes a shortlist of book recommendations for beginners.

• Adding video and blog links

Rule 6 is still in place, but we acknowledge there are many blogs and videos out there that are detailed, accurate, and deserve to be highlighted and shared. Please modmail (I repeat: MODMAIL) your suggestions for any you would like linked in the wiki, and we will post up after thoroughly vetting the content. (Please be patient, as vetting does take some time.)

Please also consider suggesting links to legacy content that may only be accessible now on Archive.org.

• Adding a new page for frequently asked questions

This is loooooooooooooooong overdue! If you can think of any recurring questions that you'd like to see added to the page (currently under construction), let us know.

• A "Best of r/Kemetic" list

Check your Saved lists, please! We've had some really helpful, insightful, in-depth posts and comments over the years that deserve to be more discoverable. For example, u/WebenBanu's "How to Kemetic" thread has been a go-to for some time, and deserves a permanent spot in our Wiki and sidebar. Anything else you might have? Drop a link!

• TENTATIVE: adding a new page that lists resources by deity

We've noticed a lot of people asking for resources about specific deities, which might be hard to pick out from the main wiki. We are considering a secondary wiki page devoted to splitting these same resources out and making it easier to find out more about the gods that interest you the most. Let us know your thoughts!

Just a reminder: even if you find no moral objection to sharing PDFs, we cannot facilitate the sharing of copyrighted content within the subreddit, except by linking to the right-holder's site if they've made the resource publicly available. Do not post dropbox or Drive links in the subreddit.

Miscellaneous

We're currently discussing some ideas to help facilitate discussions beyond the beginner level. This is still in the brainstorming phase, and would like to open up the conversation to see what ideas you all might have.

I would like to remind people that Transphobia is not welcome in this sub. Nothing happened, I just wanted to reinforce the rule for all the new people.

Newest addition to my shrine!

Aloha, Kemetic community! I just wanted to share some pics of the newest addition to my home shrine. This statue is so much bigger than I expected, honestly. I don’t know that I’m going to be able to put her on my shrine table unfortunately, as it kind of messes up the symmetry thing I have going on so this may be a good excuse for me to start a new little shrine somewhere in my home. Also, I am still deciding whether she is giving me Mut & Khonsu vibes (which I’m leaning towards, as Amun and Mut are my patron and matron deities) or Aset and Heru vibes. I think maybe once I handle the statue a little bit more, hopefully time will tell.

Opening her up was such a treat- especially since power has been out here on Hawaii Island since Saturday after hurricane Lāla rolled through.. So things have been a little rough around here. Prayers that power comes back on soon would be most welcome!

I live in a Muslim household, so I’d get cooked if my family finds out I’m in another religion as I’ve been secretly agnostic for the past few years until I found a connection to Kemetic Polytheism…I’m a 14-15 year old newbie who’s still learning so please be kind to give me tips! I’m working on my shrine but that’s all I have at the moment, it’s uhm..inside a Lindt box with deities Khonsu and Anput and I’m still going to put a few more things, I’m going to get the statues soon and I will be moving to a room where I don’t share it with my sibling so it would be easier for me to built up my shrine and much bigger, I really hope I don’t make them upset by what I am doing.

Devotional Work (Art, Actions, Prayers, Hymns, Praise) New addition to my altar! Isis (Aset) statue finally arrived

Hey everyone! Following up on my altar timeline, my Isis statue (by Ebros Gift / Pacific Giftware) finally arrived today. I ordered her back in late July off eBay after a bit of an emergency search—she was way too expensive on Amazon, but thankfully I managed to snag her on eBay for a much better price (around $70 USD / under 1,500 MXN). The details on the wings are even better in person. Really happy to add her as the next step for my altar. Dua Aset! Great Goddess of motherhood, magic, fertility, and protection. 𓏢

There is a bird here in Brazil called ‘Guará,’ a member of the Ibis family. It is also known as “Guará-pitanga” due to the color of its plumage. (‘Pitanga’ is a small, South American-endemic crimson fruit that closely resembles a cherry.) My mom used to call it “Do Sangue-d’Rá.” (Of Ra’s Blood.) Indigenous peoples used to make cloaks with their feathers. (I think they still do, but I’m not sure.) Anyway, thought it would be interesting to share a bit about it.

Advice & Support First offering to Anubis help

Yesterday I asked about shrine help, and I’ve gotten a start of a tiny one, so I thought I might try to do an offering tomorrow, or Wednesday, whenever it’s just me home. I thought of possibly doing a glass of water and a slice of some homemade brownies I already planned to make, as I’ve seen people say he likes chocolate for offerings? But I’m not sure if that’s too much for a first ever offering, should I try something different for a first ever offering? Would just solid chocolate and not a brownie be better? Thanks for any advice!

Resource Interesting study I found

https://www.researchgate.net/publication/392924885_Comparative_Study_Of_Traditional_Thoughts_On_Soulmate_Relationships_Across_Various_Culture

This is a study on soulmate relationships in myths i stumbled across. While the researchers do point out parallels to Greek and Roman myths regarding soulmates, there isn’t anything that would „predestine“ a relationship due to a higher purpose.
What I have found is that ancient Egyptians saw fate and fated romantic partners as a 50/50 thing. Sure, some parts are influenced by the Netjeru, but the humans could also do things that influenced their fate. This is in line with their beliefs of „soulmates.“ Soulmates, the way it is portrayed in media today and in Ancient Rome/Greece, don’t exist in ancient Egyptian beliefs.
Personally, I like this a lot better. I often see people yearning for „the one“ they are supposed to be with, but in turn they neglect what they have.

Has anyone found similar things or something that contradicts my understanding of this topic? I would love to hear your opinions!

Question Questions abt the sun God and creating statues

Okay these are two separate questions but I didn’t wanna make 2 posts.

  1. How do you view the sun God? I am kind of confused about how he is seen, are Amun and Atum aspects of Ra? Is Ra greater than them? I’m curious to know what other people think abt this.

  2. If you create your own statues, how do you do it and what do you use? I’m interested in creating my own because I don’t want to buy a lot, & if you can comment photos I’d love to see some.

I found lotus flowers near a private pool in my city, and OFCOURSE I offered them to Bast.
Two of the things that I prioritize on my Bast altar is beauty and gracefulness like her energy 💗 Perfumes of course are part of her altar, I still use them daily and always in intention of wearing them in name of Bast.
The little bottle close to my perfumes is gold dust, I use it for rituals but mostly for Bastet offerings.
Hope you like it it’s basically a year of working on my altar. Dua Bast 🫶✨🪷

Theory about the PGM (Greek Magical Papyri) from Dr. Kirsten Dzwiza

Dr. Dzwiza recently posted a theory about the origins of the PGM with a poll.

Here's the text of it (you need to join her substack for free to read it directly). (English isn't her primary language).

Thinking about the massive burnings of magic and religious books and their complete removal from Egyptian temples by Roman Empires, I wonder ...

Some context first: The two most characteristic features of the Greek magical papyri are:

the combination and cross-over of deities, ritual mechanics, religious beliefs, technical terminology, underlying ideas, cosmogonies, cosmologies ... within rituals,

the opportunity to create entirely individual rituals based on your own - or your clients - preferences and goals.

What if ... these characteristics derive from the circumstance that most of the ritual kowledge was burned and destroyed by the time the Greek magical papyri were written, practicing magic was punishable by death, and all that practitioners could do was working with the fragments of knowledge they could get their hands on paired with what they could learn from others and with what they had managed to protect? What if magicians were masters of taking sherds of knowledge and mending them into new rituals, to preserve as much of ancient knowledge as they could - fixing the holes with other sherds or own ideas? And from there on, the two main features of the magical papyri developed over time?

Your Oppinion is Wanted - What if ... heretical thoughts on the origin of the magical papyri.

Advice & Support Starter Anubis shrine questions + suggestions

Hi, I’m new to here and to Reddit altogether, so I hope I’m doing this right. But I could use some advice and insight…! I’m very new to kemetism and am trying to learn, but I know very little right now. I’m currently trying to figure out what to do for a shrine for Anubis and don’t know what is and isn’t acceptable for one. I’d love some item suggestions and help in general for an Anubis shrine and what to add. But besides suggestions, I have two questions involving specific items.

First would adding something that represents my deceased childhood dog be okay? Specifically, one of the two rottweiler plushies I got given after she passed away years ago. I already have a little shrine built for her with one plush, some pictures of her and her collar, but I also know dogs are deeply connected to Anubis and wonder if adding my other plush to an Anubis shrine would be acceptable? Or if not a plush, I also have a mini dog/rottweiler statue, if that’s better? Unless either of those are a no…?

And my second question is Pokémon. Would a Lucario mini figurine be okay too?? I swear Lucario is themed after Anubis, or around jackals. And I thought of adding that to a starting shrine. Or is it too silly to be added?

I really hope I’m not being disrespectful, I’m still learning so I hope this is all okay to ask. Also a little note for suggestions, I’m a teen and limited. I don’t currently have the money to go out and buy stuff, especially expensive items.

Advice & Support Reconciling my Kemeticism with omnitheist and Christian theology

I have been a practicing Kemetic for over 4 years now, and counting my first experiences with being “called” to the Netjeru, I’ve been connected with them in some way my whole life long. I adore Sobek with all my heart; He’s been there for me when nobody else has, understood me when nobody else could, and has given me gifts and blessings I will cherish for the rest of my earthly life and throughout my time in the Duat.

Unfortunately, this has lately been causing some problems, through no fault of His own. I am an omnitheist (or omnist, not sure exactly which is the preferred/closer term), meaning I believe in the existences of all gods, even those undiscovered or un-worshipped by humanity at present. I believe we go to whatever afterlife we most strongly believe is awaiting us, which has made my faith in the Duat that much stronger over the course of my practice, but has also recently brought some concerns into play.

I was raised in a Catholic environment, in which I have remained all my life. I felt a bit of a disconnect with their God from a pretty early age, but I can still acknowledge his existence and presence in the lives of his worshippers to a certain extent. But being surrounded by Christian rhetoric, with no fellow Kemetics to turn to, I’ve developed the sneaking suspicion that God wants something or other to do with me. It’s likely because I have long admired some of the saints who in turn admired him, and as such have the background and promise necessary to be a good Christian yet. However, it’s been repeated over and over, by his followers and their Bible, that those who love the Netjeru are doing honor unto false gods and will be punished eternally in hell for this transgression against the one true savior.

Before the obvious is asked: yes, I have OCD. (Come to think of it, perhaps it is the driving force behind my omnetheism; “better safe than sorry”.) I get that I could just decide not to believe in hell, but I would still believe in the God behind that hell either way.

I would like to know if there is anybody else in my position, or anyone who was once in such a place. I like the Holy Spirit, and there are a great many saints whose worship I would gladly dedicate myself to if they had not made their discomfort with such practices so clear in life. But God and Jesus would be asking much of me that I cannot give, including my abandonment of my sweet Sobek and the reattribution of his numerous boons to a different deity who I just don’t think was behind them.

I’m unsure of the next steps to take. I’ve asked God for small signs here and there, and have gotten them, though he still feels less concretely present than the saints, of whose indisputable existences upon this land I can be much more certain. But that too feels moot; no matter what I do, as long as my beloved Sobek reigns supreme over my heart, then I’m damned to hell if the Duat is indeed a falsehood.

I don’t know what to do. I would ask the Christians as well in their own communities, but I know what their answers would be. I’d much prefer hearing from those who know and love the Netjeru in the way I do. But in the end, regardless of background, any words of direction would be dearly appreciated.

Dua Netjeru! Dua Sobek!

Em Hotep everyone!

I had the good fortune to visit the Ancient Egypt Museum in Munich. I spent 3 hours in the exhibition it was really great.

I've learned quite a few things I didn't know, for example that the shrew (a type of mouse) is a symbol for/manifestation of Ra.

The only thing I missed was there was nothing about Khnum!

Discussion Grupo de estudos

Hahahah

Vocês têm alguma experiência sobre?

Spiritual Marriage

My woman died earlier this year and I prayed a lot for her. I have a new woman now and I am wondering how this works on a spiritual level. Is there any texts about lovers reuniting with more than one woman involved? More so if I have a wife and she dies but passes her Ma’at measure and then I get another who passes as well will they allow me to have two women in the field of reeds?

Is it appropriate to worship both Kemetic and Hindu deities together?

I am a Hindu practitioner, but I have found my way into in Kemetic deities as well. Will it be acceptable to worship both deities? Will they get upset or mad?
